With respect to the stack height of the Torin Plush, I say 21mm, while the ALtra website says 28mm. Stack height measurement strategies vary from company to company. For example, does the company include the insole (sock liner) or not? It appears Altra has included the insole into their 28mm stack height for this shoe, while other sources did not, hence the 21mm. Bottom line, I need a laser : )

QD: Altra Escalante Racer. If Altra put the Racer’s upper on the Torin Plush’s mid/outsole, you’d have two road shoes that would cover you in just about anything you’d need. I loved the feel of the Torin 4.5, but that upper is just too hot in Texas heat and humidity, and it’s got an obnoxious bulge of foam in the heel counter. I’m surprised you didn’t mention it. The Torin 4.5 is what drove me to buy my first pair of Hoka’s - the Clifton. By the way, been running in Altra’s almost exclusively since 2012.

Altra Escalante Racer: Another Altra shoe that's always flown under the radar and would be curious to see you try. Despite the name, other reviewers say that it's not just for race day and could be a great trainer.

Great review Seth and content. Loved these shoes to death. Blind bought them and have put in over 400 miles. These were my first altras and I was disappointed. I would gladly buy another pair but at a reduced price esp seeing as the shoes have started to come apart on the lateral side of the foot. At 400 miles, the shoes still look new. The outsole looks like it can go another 600miles but sadly the shoes have started to disintegrate.

QD, Brooks Revel 4 coming out in Aug., because the others people are requesting will definitely get your attention as well as that of other reviewers. Revel 3 was too overlooked, though it got high praise from the major reviewers who tested it. After the Hyperion Tempo it’s the next best Brooks road shoe.

Love your videos. Torin 4.5 for me was a epic fail. I have run in and loved every model before this one. The upper I liked, however the 4.5 has become to narrow in the mid-foot for me. The Torin 4.5 is not the only Altra that has gone this direction, I also had the same issue with the new Provision, to narrow in the mid-foot. Both shoes went back to Altra. Love your videos and keep putting out great content.

I'm picking up the 4.5 Torin today. I loved the Torin 4 (not plush - that gave me blisters as was too narrow for me) and the Provision 4 is going back. That shoe is so narrow and shallow in midfoot - my socks are peaking out the laces. My midfoot is a bit more volume but that's a first. Toebox is fine - it's over the arch that it falls apart (no pun). Too bad!

The Shift is too stiff, especially compared to the Clifton. My two cents. The Speed is more comparable, it has a really soft landing, but could still be used for speed workouts.

David Elmore have you run in them yet? both are stiff and use rockers / speed roll instead of toe off. Most reviews I see are picking the shift over the Clifton 6. Both are good I’m sure but Saucony is killing it this year.

twifosp1 to be honest I didn’t run in the Shift because when I tried it on it appeared to be too rigid and stiff. I have put miles in many Cliftons though and they are very supple and soft. I agree Saucony is killing it this year. I am waiting for the Triumph 18 to roll out. It isn’t suppose to be so hot like the 17.

I would love to see you testing Endorphin Shift. We know that the Speed is like the Pro but not that stiff, due to the not that rigid plate and a bit more padding around heel.

It’s a nice shoe, love the toe space and zero drop. My criticism is that for me the heel seems a bit narrow where it seats. The fabric covers and locks the heel well, but the actual heel seat is a bit narrow for me, so my heel doesn’t seat in there completely, the edges of my heels are somewhat “overflowing” cause my heels are somewhat wider. I think that’s the next frontier for a lot of sports shoes. Brands like altra are now taking care of the forefoot and somewhat of the mid foot, but the heel area and more of the mid foot is generally still being ignored. So people with wider feet are still not entirely well catered for! But there’s been improvement over the last ten or so years with brands like altra doing the “foot shape!”

Altra really come into their own if you have foot problems such as Morton's neuroma or other metatarsal issue. I can only get two days running in Nike or On before the pain starts under my forefoot. But in Altra, wow, never any pain !

You might want to also try wearing Injinji toe socks with the Altras. I heard that can also help with those type of conditions. The freedom of movement for your toes to splay even more gives you even more comfort and stability.

ASICS Fujitrabuco Pro trail shoe. I couldn’t find a top class review on KZfaq. I’ve a pair and find them great but curious how you’d compare them to other aggressive trail shoes from Inov8 or Salomon etc

QD: I already saw someone add this and liked their comment but I'm just gonna say it again. I'd like to see the Saucony Endorphin Shift, which seems like another one of those max cushioned easy day shoes (which are what I'm going to be needing pretty soon). The Ride 13 could also be a good one but I'm more interested in the Shift since it's part of the Endorphin collection.

I wanted to get these but then I read reviews that said the upper is super tight and digs into the foot. Not sure if I should try a half size up in these or just get the new escalante when it comes out in Australia

The Altra website has the stack height as 28mm. I think running warehouse has the wrong stack height for the plush.

Torin 4.5 plush failed me right at 200 miles. The layer below the insole near the front of the left foot disintegrated.

21mm stack heigh is not correct, I see it there on running warehouse but the altra official website has them listed as 28mm, that’s a pretty big difference...wish you would’ve caught it.

QD: I'm 160km in on my FuelCell TCs after 8 days. I think reviewers overestimate their durability. I have to stop using them as my daily driver or they'll be shot in half a month. The shop owner were I bought them (who runs on national level) said his were done after 300km, which is much less than what reviewers estimated. Maybe you could re-visit them, given their popularity as a daily trainer.

I had to return the Altra Viho- they RUN SMALL... size up for the ViHO... small - i found that odd.. I usually buy true to size. I never size up for Altra. FYI

It's great, no one in KZfaq seems to be showing it any love, kinda half way between a triumph and a kinvara, i like to use mine on days where I'm varying the pace a bit. Good solid accommodating fit that will work for a lot of different foot types as well.

*** Help! *** [written in attention seek] What shoes should I buy if I'm about to run a marathon race with 50% asphalt 50% gravel? I started to run less than a year ago. Very happy with my Altra Torin 4, but would prefer something with 6-8mm drop. I start to heelstrike after about 20k. I'm not pro /fast enough yet (aiming for 3h30min) to want to spend top dollars, so last year model or mid budget shoes will suffice 🙂
