While we were at Overland Expo West 2021, we got an exclusive look at the new Alu-Cab Canopy Camper for the full size truck platform.
This camper is ACTUALLY called the Alu-Cabin - because it's HUGE!
This is a very detailed walk through of the very first of these campers in the USA. Expect to start seeing them on rigs first of 2022.

Hey sorry guys! I scheduled this as a premiere, mostly, so everyone would know I had a video dropping. I did this since I hadn’t posted with any regularity the last year. I’d intended on being “present” for the premiere, but something came up, as what often happens when you have a big family and run a medium size business. Anyway - I’ll try this again next time! I like that ... The whole idea. Why is there no upgrade to the rear camera is really a must. So for the series 360 'camera there is also an optimized AluCabin

It’s a really cool setup. Plenty of space to hang out inside in bad weather. The awning brings the living space outside in ok weather and the setup and breakdown is fast and easy.

The fact that the camper rests to the bottom of the bed and not on the rails changes nothing to the center of gravity and how sway forces apply. Changing where the weight rests does not change the place of the weight, only what it crushes x)

@@cbingham40 An example of lowering the center of gravity for this build would be something like relocating the water tank to a place on the vehicle closer to the ground - for example, laying it horizontally on the truck bed or mounting underneath.

What I realized after seeing this is that any add-on will not be air tight because the driving rattle and bounce would eventually separate any seal or sealant, loosen screws and latches.

The sealent used is the same sealant used to seal the deck of a yacht. It is exposed to a tremendous amount of flex, vibration, salt water and UV. It lasts years and years on yachts.

Screens will be a tough install with gas struts on either side which would be in the way of screens. Must be another way?

A normal bed is 8’. A short bed is 6’. A trunk is 5-1/2’.

My 2010 crew max tundra has a 5' 3" bed. Reg beds are 6' 6" and Long beds are 8 foot.

they need to make it like a camper so you can take it off and on and leave it in your garage during the week and then on the weekend put it on again, because in North America we use our trucks all week it's not just a weekend thing

No advantage. From experience with several styles of toppers its a personal choice. You have to realize that no one topper is going to be perfect.

Off-road durability and size. A 4 Wheel camper is pretty large, pretty heavy, and not something you would want to run tight trails with where tree branches are scraping the sides.

I’m really trying hard to understand these products. Where exactly is one let alone multiple people supposed to hang out and play cards and that thing? Do you put cushions on the countertops? It just seems like some thing that could be amazing but just doesn’t work.

Hey, you mentioned all but GM trucks. Alu-cab website also doesn’t mention Chevy/GMC. Does this mean that having a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 I can’t match an Alu-cab camper/topper to my truck? Thanks.

Talking with Daniel from tiny rig co - he believes the clearance should be enough. Looking at it in person, I measured that. I did not pull a measurement from the middle, but from the side it was about 6”.

I don’t think they specifically was discussed because it can vary depending on individual wants. I think with goose gear, other storage options, water heater, fireplace, etc. etc. you could get it up there. Hi 20’s or low 30’s. Or one could build out storage themselves and just have materials costs.

The Power Wagon actually has puny payload. Curious what the doorjam says on this truck. It might only be 1300lbs, depending on options. This system has to be pushing the limits of that. Assuming they replaced rear springs?

@richard perry 12.4k BASE for the model reviewed. Tent and drop in cabin only. No Goose Gear. No water. No accessory bags. I'm guessing, nearing 20k with what you see here. With someone with an open credit line and the need, then go for it. I would if I had a chip in the game.

That is the same heater that is in the Scout truck campers and I heard it really sips the fuel.
