My favorite style ever since I found Joseph Zbukvic and Alvero Castagnet. Thanks for doing the video. I live in a city with cool architecture and I want to do paints of the buildings in this style.

Also love Alvaro’s style. You did a great job of capturing the technique and I’m psyched to give it a go. Been trying to loosen up for years and am bound and determined to do so. I agree with you that his style is much more appealing than a simple replication of an object or scene. Thanks for the great demonstration.

@@johnboxwatercolor You're a brave man, kudos for your effort -- quite a good 'imitation'. My only quibble regards your statement that Alvaro is mainly known for his dry brush technique. I would argue that he's mainly known for his bold washes, then adds the details -- sometimes still with those large brushes, and ends with dry brush details. :)

I enjoyed this tutorial very much. You really captured Alvaro's style. I would love to know more about your color choice, however. Your rendition of the building is very different than the original color palette.

Alvaro likes to say that he is not replicating reality, he is beating reality by inventing a much more interesting and dramatic one. This leads to all of his paintings using more or less the same colors and looking more or less the same, color wise. He likes to say that it’s all about hue and value, and the actual color matching and stuff like that are not important

Very useful demo. But the body of the tower looks awfully flat, and needs of some strong shadow on the left hand side, perhaps to make it more 3D?
