I know this is a humerous comment but it got me thinking: are spiders (or any small creatures for that matter) able to enjoy something like music. Are they capable of any abstract thought or are their lives completely driven by instinct (find food, mate, etc.)? If they are able to understand rhythm, can they...dance? Would they even get any gratification from it?

@@aplimsollpunk2738 No. Spiders are biological computers that react to vibrations because it means "food" some part of the song might've told the spider there was prey thrashing around and to go look for it, but the spider absolutely did not get something from the music. this is textbook fallacious reasoning, that a non-human animal acting in a way reminiscent of humans means that human psychology is operating in the animal. it isn't. your cat doesn't snuggle with you because it loves you, it's siphoning off your body heat. the *only* creatures in the animal kingdom that thinks like us are canids, because they're descended from wolves which very much joined human tribes of their own volition, but even that operates in an extremely limited capacity. Here's a classical thought experiment - if a human and lion both spoke english, they could not communciate. Even if we spoke the exact same language as the animal, our frames of reference are so far removed that we would not be able to communicate meaningfully to any degree

I love this comparison. Molly and Alec's songwriting is still grossly underrated. As much as I love their performances, it might take being covered by other artists to make people properly appreciate how great the songs are.

They are invoking the C86 style janglepop. This sounds like the Darling Buds, Talulah Gosh, The Primitives, etc. If you can catch Alvvays at a small venue, do so before it's too late.

@Bigfriendly15 YES. There's something about this band and their music, it's more than just the great hooks; it's their attitude, or taste, or personality, I'm not really sure... Sadly, I don't personally know a single other person who 'gets' them. My snobby circle tends to dismiss them as a frivolous, lightweight pop band and don't understand what I see/hear in them. "You're just simping for Molly R." Well, I AM, but it goes WAY beyond that. You have to be obtuse not to appreciate how fucking great their songs are. It's good to know I'm not alone in feeling that way.
