UP and BNSF Cal-P Detours 2-12-17 & 2-14-17

With all of the north/south routes in the Central Valley closed to rail traffic at the time, many BNSF and UP freights commonly seen in the valley were diverted up the less-trafficked Cal-P in an effort to keep freight moving. These are the detours I was able to catch. Enjoy.

Always enjoy your work. I’ll have to check out the viewpoint at the north end of the Benicia Bridge. Didn’t know it was there.

I swear I saw a CSX leading a short BNSF manifest from where I live. It was passing the Oakland Colliseum.

Great video love the horn on UP 5474 really hoping UP accepts my application in Oakland it would be really great to work around home instead of somewhere else

I have never heard of bahia ca. i live in novato and work in Richmond. Batavia either lol are these Cities?

Bahia and Batavia are not cities, but rather small communities that were once towns. As the railroad developed, trackside towns popped up to support the lifestyles of the men and women who worked on the RR. As the RR modernized and began to rely less on local labor, the towns naturally lost their purpose and fell to history. The RR now uses the names as points of reference, relative to where the old stations used to stand.
