🙋🏼 ABOUT ME: Hi guys! My name is Alyona. I was born in Russia. I'm a musician. And I love art, makeup, fashion, style and beautiful environments. I love playing with makeup and fashion, but at the same time, I’m quite a minimalistic person. I don't like the idea of being fixated on the body too much. I have an alternative and unconventional viewpoint on beauty, the body types and face shapes. I love helping other women find their "it" and finally discover their beauty and boost their confidence.
I have several series on my channel that you might be interested in such as: Body Types, Contouring, Makeup History and Makeup Transformations. Also some random beauty hacks about skin care, hair, nails and beauty in general.

Aly, I love your videos and music. I have a question about the Kibbe categorization - it's very Caucasian. It seems to miss the tall and strong but with feminine features. I would like to see more of the Amazonian models. Personally when I took the test, I was split evenly and it didn't make sense. (I have a romantic look but I am taller and stronger.) What about female bodybuilders? What about the crossover with Endomorph Ectomorph and Mesomorph?

Something that helped for me, was realizing it wasn't that important to find my kibbe body type, it was to understand the system, my lines, my body. At a certain moment I was wondering between soft natural and soft dramatic, when I realized it didn't matter, what I needed to do was understand my own posture, and understand what clothes suited me, and why. Also, for me, it helped to stop looking at pinterest boards, because it tends to focus on a certain style, and it doesn't explain why this dress would look good on a type, just 'this dress looks good on ...", and because of that, it's easy to forget it's not about that dress, it's about understanding why that dress suits you (and why you can use the same information of that dress on sweaters, shirts, skirts, etc.). Also, it doesn't help it's usually a certain style. I really struggled to figure out if I might be a soft dramatic, because I just really didn't like the clothing style suggested.

Hi Little Black Fox: how you began to understand the system? How exactly you found out your lines/shape? Its so difficult....
@ZwarteKonijn
@ZwarteKonijn 3 жыл бұрын
@@darjadrake4210 Hi! I agree it's difficult, I had a lot of trouble as well. I think it helps a lot more to do it in steps, than trying to figuring it out in one go. Understanding yin and yang in both your style and your body really helps before diving into the Kibbe System, I'd recommend Elyssa here on KZfaq for learning about yin and yang in this system. After that it's mostly figuring out what you're absolutely not, and if you're more yin in general, like romantic or gamine, or more yang in general, and lean more towards dramatic and natural (or more in between like classic). After that it is more fine tuning, like understanding your bones structure, your visual height, and overall how you come across. (I think it also helps a lot to focus more on what works for you and what not in the actual type of clothing you wear, and not focusing too much on what type you are). For me, Thoughts With Rita helped me the most (really recommend her!), she makes whole videos dedicated to every type, and differentiates type with style and essence. She goes a lot more into what makes each type that type, and what are the main aspects to focus on. She also made a few videos analyzing celebrities, and it helped me a lot how she uses street photo's over event photo's what creates a more realistic look, and also points out what she think they are not, and why, and also focuses a little on their personal style, to understand what is style and what is their body type. (she also made me realize I'm actually flamboyant natural, which is something I never saw because I just hate the style recommendations for this type (very boxy, I hate the usual colour recommendations, and it's usually kinda formal and kinda fancy), and the celebrities used as examples are usually a lot less curvy/thick than me, but understanding why things work for this type, made me figure out it is exactly how I've been styling my own clothes for years as a tomboy). Merriam Style also has a couple of videos where she uses photo's from her subscribers as examples, I think it can really helps to look at different people with all more different styles and different looks to figure better out what makes each body style that style, instead of only using celebrities as examples. Hopefully this helps a little, at least to know where to start, you can always ask me more if you want to :)

Check out style syntax on KZfaq. She co founded strictly kibbe and she mentioned this. Some ethnic groups with a certain look will have a higher percentage of whatever. Like if most people in your country are 6ft...most people won't be romantic. They will be natural, flamboyant naturals or dramatic/soft dramatic. Some ethnicities will have a higher percentage of certain kibbe types.
@myssangela4872
@myssangela4872 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with the 2 answers. It's always helpful to see your ethnicity and compare yourself to it, but at the end of the day it's all about the geometry of the bones and how the parts of the body relate to each other. You are asian but your bones will still be short, long, rounded, blunt, sharp etc For example Lucy Liu is typed by many as a dramatic (even if she's short). I also see many black celebrities being typed romantics, soft dramatics, soft classics, flamboyant gamines etc. It's all about the proportions

@@myssangela4872 I agree! Thank you for expressing the value of judging by proportions and not purely by height. They've eliminated their correct category based on one faulty assumption.

Something that helps is trying diffrent styles of clothes, makeup and hairstyles to see what type are you, for example if you look better withouth bangs you are more likely to be classic, or if you look better with voluminous and messy hair you are more likely to be some kind of natural, or if you look better with voluminous but orderly hair, then you are more likely to be soft dramatic. The same goes for makeup: if you look better with no make up make up, than say, strong make up you are probably classic, or if you look better with shimmery makeup you are more likely to be theatrical romantic. The same goes for clothes.

I think one of the confusions is that Kibbe types are viewed as categories with firm distinctions, rather than yin/yang influence on a continuum. It might be nice to consider what the body types can “get away with”-e.g., photos of Naturals getting away with dressing Gamine, but not with dressing Romantic (or whatever)...

I agree. It makes me think of colour analysis and how deep autumns might be able to get away with some deep winter colours, for eg.

thank you! i really enjoy learning about these body types. i like very feminine and cute fashion however classic suits, long straight cut jackets and something with very strict shape fits me the best. i never could understand why until i learned about my body type, i indeed am dramatic! it helps me now to choose the right outfit or to adjust it to fit me better.

I was not really aware of my body but in the end I nailed it. I am a flamboyant natural and those hands of Claudia Schiffer look just like mine, lol😁. Wow, yeah my hands are square like yours! I was typed from a professional image consultant from Russia and she told me I was a gamine-natural from Dwyn Larson’s type system. She told me that kibbe’s system has some flaws that one person isn’t just one type, but a hybrid of types. In kibbe’s system I am a soft gamine (not professionally verified). These systems in general are so interesting.

I feel I am a soft classic. Because wearing soft classic clothing really compliments me. Plus my body is of a medium frame. My shoulders are slightly wider than my hips. And I have an average waist. My height is moderate. And I have soft rounded features. As in I feel my bones are blunt and my muscles aren't defined too much.

That's great. Great explanations. I was wondering if the aging process on a body/face is a bit of a "fake out" like losing or gaining weight? When I was younger, I had more collagen. My face was still an oval, but cheeks and lips were plumper. Now that I'm older and probably 10-15 lighter, I see more of a "gaunt, chiseled dramatic". Even though a lot of people think I'm an FN. Just curious your take on this.
@lh1053
@lh1053 3 жыл бұрын
Difference between dramatic and FN is muscle! A dramatic person will have these bones that can be prominent. Both are tall but FN will be wider (especially at the shoulders!) FN will look muscular. A dramatic will more likely have a straight figure rather than that inverted V. It’s easy to see between those 2. They can carry some similar clothes and jewelry

I think age definitely can affect the yin and yang balance. I find that that most people have more yin in their face when they were younger, eg. fuller cheeks, fuller lips, bigger eyes, smaller nose. As they get older, their cheeks become more taunt, lips thinner, eyes smaller due to sagging skin, and nose enlarging

Hi Aly, just a suggestion. Typing is really hard when you could have many characteristics. Also if you lift weights too it seems you can almost change your body type. Can you maybe do a series on straightforward style types, as in "if you have short legs, and want to make them look longer do ___" (you could do shorter, thinner, wider, etc.) maybe for each body part itself? Then we can assemble a wardrobe accordingly. You could make this part of your patreon account

I have found that taking the test isn't the be-all-end-all of Kibbe body types. After all, David Kibbe doesn't even assess with the quiz anymore. I find that what matters more is gaining an understanding of each of the body types and begin typing people you know or celebrities you see in the media and then check the result and see if you were right or at least close. The better you get at understanding yin/yang lines, width, vertical lines, and curve in Kibbe terms, the greater ability you'll have to categorize yourself. So, in order to find out what I was, I began with the quiz just like everybody else. There was an issue with this though; I didn't understand vertical line and how past a certain height one will automatically have a very long vertical line regardless of the size of their head (above 5'7"). Not understanding this lead me to mistyping myself according to the quiz as a dramatic classic. I knew that wasn't right because (although Kibbe doesn't use faces as a defining factor) my face was most definitely not classic at all. So much so that I saw it in my body too. My shoulders are broad and prominent, and my hips are wide and square. I have a very similar body to Gigi Hadid, but my results had a lot more C initially because I didn't actually understand what "moderate" vs "broad and blunt" meant. Moral of the story, understand the yin/yang system first and foremost before even trying to take the quiz. Understand what counts as A answers, B answers, C answers, D answers, and E answers, look at verified celebrities of all weights, ethnicities, color seasons, and ages. See the possible variety of each type and see which you share the most common threads with yourself and the types. Retake the quiz after you've really gained an understanding. Being 5'8" I now understand there are also ways to narrow down your possible options. So, for anyone needing help with that, if you are over 5'7" you are automatically either a Dramatic, Soft Dramatic, or a Flamboyant Natural as according to David Kibbe himself. That was the answer for me, that clarified everything and now I understand why I am a flamboyant natural. Hope this helps.

That is a very interesting video, Aly. When I take the Kibbe test - which I've done several times - I always get different results. The first thing that confuses me is indeed how to deal with overweight. Since I've been overweight my entire life I don't know how fleshy my arms would be if I were slim. I can't even compare myself to celebrities because it's hard to see similarities in someone who has a completely different figure. Height is also an issue. The question ist: "How are you perceived?" But in the answers it says "you are tall" or "you are short". These are two very different things. I'm 1,80m. Does that mean that I can narrow down the types to dramatic and flamboyant natural? Love your videos. They are so informative, well structured and precise.

Firstly, I LOVE your videos. I've recently discovered the Kibbe system and they help me so much when figuring out how to dress for my body type! While watching this video, I realised that there are two things that I have become repeatedly confused and frustrated with about finding clothes to flatter my body type. Principally, with figuring out my colour palette and how to 'break the soft gamine rules' properly in order to achieve more feminine/tailored silhouettes. In terms of Kibbe type, I'm Soft Gamine. I'm 5'1.5, have a naturally defined waist but still am very boyish in figure, with short hands, arms and legs, but with angularity in my jaw/cheekbones when thin. I have a rough idea of what fabrics, cuts and patterns suit me however whenever I'm browsing in a shop, I find that if a particular item of clothing comes in various colours, I never know which to choose! I've done so many quizzes and looked at celebrities who apparently share my colouring and I'm still not entirely sure. I've narrowed it down to either a Deep Winter or Deep Autumn. (For the latter, I heard the Jennifer Lopez was a DA, who is somewhat like me - similar hair colour, but completely different skin tone. For the former, I read that Catherine Zeta-Jones was also a DW - I had a little trouble with this because while her skin is more similar to mine than JL's, her hair is much darker (mine is dark brown, hers is jet black). Regarding more tailored silhouettes, it doesn't help that the celebrities I admire are generally Dramatics and are usually 5'6 or above. (Not that I admire them only because of their height, that would be hilariously peculiar, but when I've done the 'putting myself on the same level as them via photos on the computer' thing and have checked their height, this is the height that I get on average). Two examples of taller celebrities with styles I absolutely love are Michelle Dockery (who I believe is a Kibbe Dramatic?) and Raquel Cassidy (I think she may be Dramatic too? honestly, I'm not too sure). Michelle, in the world premiere for the movie of Downton Abbey, wore this gorgeous floor-length bodycon gold one-shoulder gown. For me, metallic coloured clothes have always been a source of stress. I'm drawn to sheer fabrics and strong golds. (Beauty and the Beast is my favourite film ever and I dreamt about wearing Belle's gold ball gown for so long! I was gutted when I realised that my body type would never suit a dress like that). That being said, whenever I try it on, the gold never seems to work with my skin tone, either washing me out or being too bold for me. I have a silver off-the-shoulder top with a similar fabric to what Michelle's dress is made of, but a lot softer and not monochrome (it has streaks of different shades of silver within it). I've tried the 'vein test' to try and figure out my colour palette several times, however I always fail to conclude the temperature of my skin because I can't quite work out the colour of my veins, but I can also wear both gold and silver jewellery without either type seeming to wash me out or make me look sallow. Raquel, for the 'BAFTA Celebrates Downton Abbey' event, wore this stunning floor-length dress with a slit in one of the legs and long, cape-like arms. I'd love to wear something like this, however being an SG, whenever I try to wear something long and flowing or too clingy, it doesn't work for me. I always hesitate with tailored things because I can never find the things that look right! Also, I've never been entirely sure about key-hole fronts/backs as they are a very feminine feature that can either look out of place or suit me depending on the key-hole in relation to the cut of the garment, its size etc. I tried reading up on how to 'tailor things to my body type', but nothing I've found has worked. A KZfaqr who specialises in petite fashion is Dearly Bethany. She, like me, is a similar height and also ages younger than she actually is. (I'm 19 and have been told that without make-up or a particularly 'flattering', ie waist-defining, stereotypically feminine silhouette, that I look 15-16). She says in one of her videos, that to look older, you should wear monochrome and wear long lines (which, admittedly I have tried with wearing higher waisted items of clothing and it does give me the illusion of an extra half an inch - I don't look any older because of it but am thankful for seeming a little taller). I was confused by that piece of advice when applying to myself because I thought: "I'm a Soft Gamine! I can't wear long lines or monochrome, I'll look horrible!" Apologies for a LOT of blabbing and long, winding paragraphs, but I think this just about sums up my problem. :)

Hi! So I’m not sure if you’ve heard of her but another really good KZfaqr who is very into this stuff is Merriam Style. She has a bunch of videos about Kibbe types-not just what to wear but how to break the rules as well, in a way that works, and I can’t help thinking she might be what you’re looking for. I also know and like Dearly Bethany, but for my money, Kibbe is more accurate and universal so I tend to favour its advice over hers. Merriam recently split from Kibbe to form her own concept of the types called Body Geometry, but it is still very much about dressing using bone structure. Regardless, her old Kibbe videos are very in-depth and there’s lots of them in case Body Geometry doesn’t make sense. Merriam also has her own take on undertones, from the traditional “seasons” to her own color system, known as Artistic License. Whichever you prefer, she definitely knows her stuff and her videos actually made the undertone thing finally make sense for me. Her videos may be able to help you figure out which silhouettes you can rock, how to break the rules to wear those natural and dramatic lines you love, and what colors will suit your undertone best. I think Aly and Merriam are also friends btw, as they’ve mentioned each other. They’re also both soft gamines lol which makes me wonder if SG is just into Kibbe as a rule. Anyway, I would definitely check her out. Hope this helps! ^^

This is a great video about how to distinguish style and body type! One question: if a person likes a different style from what her body type is, what do you think is the best way to make that style look more fit/suitable to her body type? For instance,let's say we have a romantic type who likes a dramatic style or a gamine who wants to be in natural etc. Can we find an "under-style" or something that's represents a style+type balance?

I think femininity is not about gestures only... it's about your essence, too. Just like these body types you teach about, but the non-physical stuff. I'm a soft dramatic, and I have my fair share of masculinity in me, in my gestures and essence. I don't think it makes me masculine... as long as my femininity matches my masculinity, my masculinity only highlights my femininity. I think you're veery feminine, Aly. Especially your voice. I love your soft voice.
