Pumping is completely different to nursing mama! Your baby will only ever take 3-4oz per feed, even when they get older. When you pump you’re not getting the same hormones released that you do while nursing. I never get the same letdowns pumping that i do when im nursing. When you think about it we never used to pump years and years ago. I was told “feed your baby not your freezer” best advice i’ve been given honestly! If you feel like your milk supply has dropped, latch baby as much as possible and also know that around 3/4 months your supply starts to regulate itself and works off supply and demand rather than just making milk constantly like the first few months. None of these products really boost your milk supply other than healthy diet, vitamins and baby latching. Hope this helps x

Yes! Exactly this! All the modern technologies really hinder supply. Just let the baby latch and your body will do all the work for you. No need to measure the ounces and worry about not having enough❤

@@neverland4099 I completely agree with you! No one told me it was going to hurt. Your nipples do sort of “callus” in a way over time. They just become less sensitive. Getting to that point sucks though. For me personally, the first 1-2 weeks my entire nipples scab over. Once that process is done and everything heals though, it becomes so easy. Mentally that is very challenging to make it through though. I went into it thinking it is natural and easy. My body may naturally do it all, but it felt unnatural because of my lack of experience and knowledge. I almost quit after a few months with my first. I just want to encourage others to not give up even though it is so painful in the beginning and they will hit a break through and it will suddenly become so enjoyable 😊

Yes! Nursing often will help build supply. Hydrate, Hydrate, hydrate! Maybe try nursing on one side and pumping the other at the same time. Make sure to switch sides the next session. Pumping does not stimulate production as much as nursing your baby does. Chances are your baby is getting way more than the pump is. Try not to stress about it. You’re doing great! Someone once told me that if you’re worried about being a good mom, you are a good mom. Don’t be afraid to seek the help of a lactation consultant, books, or a nursing mom’s support group if you need it though.

I exclusively pump and have such a large supply that I've had to wean down due to many clogged ducts and mastitis twice. Pumping most definitely can boost your supply as long as you are consistent and drain the breasts.

Apparently pumping doesn’t fully mimic sucking, so you’re not going to get as much milk from pumping as you would if you had baby on your breast. You’re actually pumping a really good amount! Good job mama

Hey!!!! I usually never comment on videos but I feel compelled to here! My baby is six months old and I’ve been through it with him! Mastitis numerous times, clogged ducts, you name it! I’ve noticed such a difference in supply when I drink one liquid IV every day and mix it with coconut water! You can also try brewers yeast, that helped my supply in the early stages as well! If you plan on nursing and pumping, make sure you’re nursing as much as possible as that will keep your supply up! You got this!!

Both of my babies dropped weight when I would try mostly breastfeeding. Pumping helped somewhat, but I only pumped about 5-6 oz PER DAY even at 5 weeks postpartum. That was it. Once I stated that to reasonable people, they realized I did have a serious problem producing milk. My milk never truly dropped. That's the way my body was twice. I was only devastated the first time, but I admit I was relieved with my second child because I knew which conveniences to expect, and I was back to my pre-baby weight after 2 weeks anyway. Then I was back to my pre-mommy weight after 6-7 months postpartum. I was on my feet early on without issue, I was energetic, exercising daily, and I wasn't depressed about exclusively formula feeding. I may be an exception for both bouncing back after two kids and for not being able to produce milk though. All I know is that formula-fed babies turn out fine. The only reason studies show negative side effects is because a large portion of formula fed babies are neglected by mothers that are too young, uneducated, overworked, poor, or addicted to drugs. They're the ones more likely to formula feed. Still, mothers who don't neglect their babies will have good results with exclusive and supplementary formula feeding, without tooth decay, ear infections, or obesity risk. It's all about the parenting. 75% of 6 month old babies in the US have consumed formula at some point, and most babies are not exclusively given breast milk by age 1. This is pretty much how it is in countries ethnically similar to the US, such as Australia, Canada, and those in western Europe. We shouldn't be forced to feel like a minority because we're not. We live in wealthier nations where exclusive breastfeeding isn't as big a deal for long-term health. We can also get ahold of filtered water and a variety of formulas easily. Using another woman's breast milk is even an option. Breast pumps have allowed some mothers to leave the house and to store more milk. We're no longer limited to 24/7 nursing, and spouses can help out nowadays. What finally helped me be at peace was the reality that I have many more years of influencing their diets as they grow. The first 1-2 years of breastfeeding are but a blip. Childhood lasts much longer. Being able to give them probiotics, multivitamins, and teaching them healthy eating habits will have greater far-reaching results in their lives. That's something to keep in mind.

Girl get different flanges!! If those are the flanges that came with your pump (spectra it looks like) the flanges are always super big. If you get properly sized flanges you may be able to pump out more. (But also I have a low supply so I just nurse baby as often as possible, every 2 hours during the day and safely cosleep so they nurse all night and you get to rest while they do- game changer)

Please see a lactation consultant! They are professionals (usually OBGYNs, nurse midwives, or nurses) who have specific training in breastfeeding. They can give you tips specific to you and your baby and some well-deserved encouragement. You are doing amazing! Breastfeeding is so hard and you should feel proud of what you are already accomplishing. Fed is the priority, so as long as your baby is fed adequately, that is the most important thing.

My aunt says having one beer is ok when breastfeeding because it helps produce milk. I would also look into any herbs that might be known to help, I know that Chinese midwives during after birth care (don't remember the real name. They have women who specialize in taking care of the mother before and after birth if you can afford it.), would give the new moms a special diet along with a daily tea to assist in milk production. If you end up just supplementing with formula for your mental health or whatever reason, that's ok too mamas ❤❤❤

I don’t want to throw out unwanted advice, so skip my comment if you don’t want it. I just want to encourage you in your breastfeeding journey❤ If you think about it, in the past we didn’t really have pumps or measure how much milk we were producing. Don’t get caught up on looking at the number of ounces. Your body was made to feed your baby and it can do it😊 One suggestion I would give(which may totally not work depending your lifestyle cause I stay home with my babies) is to stop pumping all together and try not to give a pacifier. Both reduce your supply. If you feel like your baby needs a pacifier or you think they are hungry, let them latch. Babies suck nutritiously and non-nutritiously. Meaning that even if they aren’t eating while latched, the suckling actually signals to your body to produce more milk naturally. A pump or a pacifier can’t do this and will reduce your supply over time. Hope I was able to help! You can totally do this! Breastfeeding is just hard at the beginning, but you will settle in great over time. Just stay strong and don’t give up❤ Praying for you

@@milicag7 Yes! You are totally right! Breastfeeding is a full time job on its own😂 That’s why I was saying it really depends on your lifestyle. I stay at home with my kids, so I prioritize it. However, not pumping is not a reality if you have to go back to work. But if that’s the case, she could try to improve her supply while on maternity leave so that even if it dwindles when she goes back to work, she will be able to keep it up longer because she started with a larger supply. 😊

Exclusively pumped w baby 1, nursed babies 2&3 and wayyy preferred that. So many good comments so keeping mine short. Baby nursing frequently helps supply the most, safely cosleeping so baby can nurse through the night and mama still gets rest has been a game changer for me (did this with babies 2 & 3 and it makes me so well rested and looove the early months), when pumping make sure you’re using the right size flange (LC can measure you), change duckbill valve if supply seems to dip, drink water every time you pump and try to get 2 letdowns per pump session, BUT if you are stressed w pumping or need to supplement every feed, that’s okay! So great baby is still getting your antibodies through what you do pump. But ultimately, for me the easiest thing was to just latch baby all the time, get used to feeding them/latching them everywhere :) it’s such a short and sweet time ❤

My first baby I was so nervous about not supplying enough for her. She gained weight so slowly. I was constantly weighing her and pumping. I was going back to work and was just wanting a stock of breast milk for my husband to give to her. She was fine and weaned herself when I was 20 weeks pregnant with baby #2. I stayed home with my other four so just breastfed on demand and stopped worrying about it. Drink lots of water and eat oatmeal. Also remember when she is growing cluster feedings is what will increase your supply and it doesn’t mean she isn’t getting enough. You are doing great!

I got the dr brown hand pump (medela flanges fit on it) and honestly it worked wonders. I went from around 20oz/24 hours to about 50 at my highest. Also your main things are tons of water (more than you think you need) and make sure you’re getting enough calories. I found oatmeal helped too :) apparently Oreos help too but I didn’t test that theory as I just hate them lmao

Quality over quantity mama! I noticed my milk was more yellow when it was richer and fattier. When it was bright white it was more watery and less creamy. I have pumped a full 20 minutes and gotten 3/4 ounce 😢 but then I took a nap & had a snack & had milk again. To increase my supply I pumped after feeding. At first I didn't get anything, but the more demand the more your body makes so if you regularly pump after nursing then your supply goes up. Also if I was away from baby and they were fed with a bottle i would make sure to pump so that my boobs were on the same feeding schedule as my baby.

I was also a very poor pumper, but my 2 babies got plenty of milk directly from the breast. Produced lots of soiled diapers and grew just fine straight from the breasts. But I’d barely produce 2 ounces per boob after 1/2 of pumping. Never had a letdown while pumping unless the baby was nursing on a breast while the other was being pumped. I gave up pumping because it was just too difficult. However, I continued breastfeeding and breastfed my babies for total of 6 years.

For the age of your baby, your amounts are fantastic! I would suggest if you'd like to spike your supply take these steps: 1) Eat high protein and stay super hydrated. You need protein to make milk. You need water to make milk. 2) Pump after each nursing session with the baby. Milk making is supply and demand. If you impose more demand, your body will make more. 3) Measure your nipple size and make sure you have the correct flange sizes for your pump. Too small or too big could limit output. Remember, give yourself grace. To make milk, you have to move milk. You're doing amazing. 1

This amount of milk is very normal. If it's still not enough for your baby, stay hydrated and try hands-on pumping. This helped my supply ALOT. Now i get 5 ounces together for each pumping session. I did try supplements from legendairy milk as well. I tried pumping princess, and it dropped my supply even more. i stopped taking them immediately. I went with Cash Cow and lechita with sunflower lecithin, gave me an oversupply, which gave me a clog that took me like 3 days to fully get rid of, so definitely be careful with that. Now, i only take them when my period gets here or if i see my supply dipping. Your period can also cause your supply to dip, so pay attention to that and dont stress out it'll make you feel worse and probably make your milk dip even more. Dont feel bad if right now you dont have enough milk for your baby, i know i did. Just keep doing what you're doing. Stay hydrated most of all. If you need to supplement with formula, that's totally okay. I had to supplement with formula a few times for the first month or two while i did my research about pumping and tried to get a good supply going. Now my baby is 9 months old and only drinks breaastmilk. You got this. You're doing great. Happy mom= happy baby, and a fed baby is best 🫶

You will never get all your milk out with a pump. I'm a LC. Drink a 10oz of water 20 min before pumping to signal letdown. Don't go longer then 2 hours in-between pumping sessions. Your flange may not be sized right. Not all pumps are good. You make most milk between 1-3 am. Also babies eat more often to signal you to make more milk so you have to pump more often for longer to up your supply. Make sure you pump every 2-3 hours during the night. So many times mom use a bottle so they can do something but if baby is eating you pump. Bottle feeding with breastmilk is not the same as bottle feeding with formula. Caffine and sugar can hinder pumping. Oatmeal and fenugreek are things to help. They have mothers milk tea that has fenugreek in it. Your milk and skin will smell like maple syrup if your drinking enough

If it makes you feel any better, they is COMPLETELY NORMAL. A) babies are better at emptying you than your pump. They also only have small stomachs. Are you exclusively pumping? Because bottle feeding is so different because you are expecting baby to eat the face amount every feed session. I can't offer much to help you feel better about this without knowing your feeding schedule and all. But any more than 2-4 ounces each pump session is considered an oversupply. Don't over think it, that just stresses you out and extra stress isn't good for your suppy. Even though you're pumping keep offering baby the boob, even once a day. Do things that help your body relax, so your let down comes in. As long as baby has wet nappies, and gaining weight, your little one will be okay ❤️ I found that sometimes after a feed if my youngest bubs "seemed hungry" like upset or suckling on fingers, it was actually a comfort thing she'd do due to trapped wind or a full tummy. My mom always said she wasnt much of a breast feeder cause the supply would only last about 2 months. So she would switch to formula by the time us kids were 2 months.

Have you looked into seeing if baby's latch is good? My last child had tight lips so feeding was more painful and longer. I kinda stretched their mouth around where the connectors are and noticed a big difference. Oh and plant based nipple cream vs lanolin helped me a lot too.

@Shelb13v his latch is probably not good. It has gotten to a point where it is not painful though. 💔

SLEEP, hydration, and being content are what you need for optimal supply. Maybe try eating something you enjoy while you pump. Oxytocin is what keeps the milk flowin, and stress cancels some of that out. ❤❤

Talk to your doctor about finding a lactation specialist if you want to try diet changes to encourage more milk production. Lactation specialists are a fountain of knowledge, and they can also let you know if you are already doing everything you can and that it’s just your body has a limit. Either way, you’re doing great mama! 💜💜

As a mama who is currently still exclusively pumping at 18months and was a just enougher. I strongly encourage hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Sparkling waters, water, body armors, soda ,whatever you can do stay hydrated. Sleep is super important too if you can. Also don’t miss your MOTN feed/pump. Breast milk is supply and demand. I also combo fed my daughter until she was 11 months with 1 bottle a day of formula. This saved my sanity as a just enougher. Best of luck you’re doing really great mama!

I didn’t finish watching the video. You are not an under supplier, if you are nursing baby as well you’re body isn’t going to be making massive amounts of milk, we give baby 2oz bottles as new borns but think we’d pump more, you don’t need a freezer full of milk or a pitcher. You’re doing great!! Keep pumping or nursing. Your body will produce what baby needs!

Are you pumping only or after a feed? Because if it's the latter then that seems like heaps. If she is only taking the bottle now then def see a lactation consultant. There are teas and foods you can eat but I don't know if they really work. I had to feed then pump as my baby was so sleepy she wasn't staying awake long enough on the breast to gain weight! So we would switch to a bottle after she fell asleep on the breast and I would pump to provide next times bottle if that makes sense. That way I got the letdown from the hormones and I would try to think about her while I pumped too to keep it going.

What helped me was drinking more and pumping way more, even in the night. I also used to pump on the side my baby wasn't on while they were eating. I spent about a week pumping almost every hour to build supply. Also, not all pumps are the same. Some work better than others. Plus, some women just dont ever over supply or even supply enough. Its not really that big a deal. When your baby is 10 you'll completely forget all this anxiety and realize you did just fine.

Don't be so disappointed, your supply looks normal. Not everyone can pump a lot. Everyone's body is different. If you need to supplement a little it's not the end of the world, your baby will benefit from any breast milk! You can try mothers milk tea, lactation cookies and all that but don't stress so much! Everything will be ok!❤

If baby is getting heavier and producing wet nappies its enough. Also, the baby itself, its proximity, feel and smell stimulates let down and more milk. Its why in the hospital neonatal unit mothers were told to take a photo of baby and/or worn babygro with us to the pumping room. So baby is likely getting more when hes feeding from you.

Your baby needs 1-1.5oz of milk every hour, no matter what age. So in a full 24 hour period your baby needs 24-36oz. That is the ONLY advice you need. If you are not meeting the 24-36oz requirement for a full 24 hour period than you should supplement while doing power pump sessions to increase your supply. Breast milk is 100% based on demand. So the more you pump (even while completely 'empty') the more your body will make.

Do you drink enough water? I could imagine with the pain of peeing and the kidney stones you maybe don’t want to drink much. 1l more water per day increased my milk supply like crazy. And I ate about 3000kcal (this will not gain you any weight, breast feeding and pumping takes a lot of energy).

I think you should breastfeed the baby, the pumper doesn't mimic the sucking motion of the baby + the hormones relased on that process, you should pump only if there's a excess of milk that become painful or if you have to work or leave the house for a long period of time and can't feed the baby by yourself, but every time you can, try to breastfeed the baby directly ❤ that will regulate the production too

The rule is 1-1.25oz per hour. You’re pumping enough. If you overthink it you’ll feed formula and possibly over feed your baby.

I saw a lady’s video who said almost no milk comes out for the first 30 mins of her pump session and then after 30 mins her breasts finally start producing lots of milk. Every time she pumps it takes that long.

How to increase supple: 1. Stay Hydrated: Drink a glass of water while pumping or breastfeeding. Hydration is essential for both your well-being and milk production. 2. Breast Massage: Gently massage your breast tissue from the collarbone to the nipple while pumping or breastfeeding to encourage milk flow. 3. Dual Pumping: Pump the breast that your baby isn’t feeding from, and switch breasts at the next feeding session. 4. Frequent Feeding: Breastfeed more often or allow your baby to suckle to stimulate your mammary glands and boost milk supply. 5. Try Fennel Tea: Drinking fennel tea can help increase milk supply and offers additional health benefits. 6. Focus on Self-Care: Boost milk production by reducing stress, eating a balanced diet, and getting as much rest as possible. Your body is still healing from giving birth, and you're in pain with kidney stones. You're doing amazing!

I am a mom of 2. I struggled to get my first to Breastfeed as our hospital experience was traumatic from birth then our roommates family members were creepy. The curtains had to he drawn for privacy, or they would stand and openly stare at me, trying to breastfeed my oldest. We complained. It was unbelievably hot as well. In the end, we had to give her forumla, and she became a lazy feeder. I persisted with pumping to get my supply up, and my oldest took to breastfeeding at 3 months old on the day. I was pleased. I continued to pump and freeze for nights out or for family or partner to help feed our oldest.

1. Healthy diet. 2. Lots of calories (+500 to be precise - that's how much extra your body needsbto produce milk) 3. Don't stress (when you're stressed your body can't release the milk, so you think you're not making enough) 4. Latch your baby or pump more often. You'll see less in the bottles, but don't be discouraged. The more you pump, the more milk you'll start making eventually Lactation cookies, teas etc. don't do anything, it's a myth.

If you can, have your baby nurse directly from the breast as it tells your body to make more and efficiently removes the breastmilk from the breast unlike the pump. Your milk supply will increase.

Pump five minutes longer after the milk stops. It tells your boobs that your baby is trying to get more and next time they will make more. Sometimes I would pump 15 minutes longer. It does hurt a little though.
