On the other hand, the opposite argument is literally "the sky is pink and elephants fall from the sky," and offered no evidence, while there is a massive body of research dating to the early 19th Century that the sky is not pink and elephants do not fall from the sky. That even without controlling for income (as smokers have a higher median income and all the benefits of that money) smokers still die younger. Absurd claims do not merit good faith argument.

I find it hard to believe it's not on purpose either, because he does it all the time. Like at another point in the interview he says you "might as well be eating a Hershey's chocolate bar" if you're eating a bowl of grapes because the sugar content is the same, and when it gets pointed out that grapes have more nutritional value for the amount of sugar they contain than a Hershey's bar he starts trying to make chocolate seem healthy by talking about extra dark chocolate, ignoring that Hershey's is milk chocolate and ignoring the criticism that some people will take that to mean "I might as well eat the Hershey's bar over the bowl of grapes" he simply replied "Might as well..." before later conceding that milk chocolate is in fact worse than eating a bowl of grapes. Still didn't seem interested in changing the way he put that messaging out though.

The problem is, and I don’t follow Gundry, Dr Mike didn’t prove him wrong yet. Dr Gundry was very clear, it was the nicotine that was helpful for the mitochondria, and said the smoking and the tobacco were unhealthy. Dr Mike in this video only should smoking and tobacco as unhealthy, so Mike just proved they agree. Dr Mike needed to refute nicotine was why smoking was bad. That Nicotine was unhealthy. He didnt show one study about nicotine, so Dr Gundry will still be walking around saying he is right.

Glad you are doing this work!! One question I have about the Parkinson's/smoking research: are they just looking at smoking cigarettes? Because nicotine impacts dopamine in the brain (Parkinson's also involves dopamine regulation). So while smoking tobacco is carcinogenic, nicotine patches might offer different results in terms of that research. However, my father smoked for over 20 years, quit in the 70s, but unfortunately has been struggling with Parkinson's for the last few years. Medical science &research can't be boiled down to a simple conclusion like this guy is making. That's not what the cease and desist is about. He isn't asking for the podcast to be removed or the information he said during it to be removed. The cease and desist is purely for the short which shows a small segment of the overall content in an out of context manner. In being out of context, the short makes it appear like that Doctor is recommending smoking which isn't the case, with Doctor Mike here acknowledging that this isn't the case. This is why the cease and desist has been made. The request isn't to stop Doctor Mike showing what he said during the interview, it's about stopping Doctor Mike taking what was said during the interview and displaying it in an out of context manner, as in doing so Doctor Mike created a misleading narrative that the other Doctor recommended smoking. While a fan of Doctor Mike myself, on this occasion, he is in the wrong, displaying the cease and desist as if it's a request for the misinformation to be hidden, when in truth it's a request for the false narrative - that this other Doctor recommends smoking - to be removed, through the removal of the short. The cease and desist was the correct course of action for the other Doctor to take here as he is being defamed by the negative impression the out of context short provides. (Note: The negative impression to the extent that would be defamatory is that of the short displaying the other Doctor as recommending smoking and has nothing to do with the misinformation provided by the other Doctor or any separate or additional negative impressions brought on from that misinformation).

How is it the board of ethics and even the government or state governing body where you hold a license not able to revaluate and possibly strip said license due to claims that are unequivocally false. To say people live longer from smoking, to endorse it and write about it in books, while being a certified doctor should come with the ethics department or the state he is certed in to step in. since there are more and more social network doctors sharing info, and even on mikes videos you can see that there is a ton of miss info or people not giving the full details of things since that gets views. how is making false and harmful claims that something that is well know to be harmful to people and say it can be good for you not illegal?

I didn't watch the longer interview, but maybe what he's trying to say is that NICOTINE is what is good against Parkinson's and dementia, but the way it's administered is what will kill you. Wanted to add, satanicaries, that I agree with everything you've said but chose to tack my reply onto you because you're up top without dozens and dozens of replies. That cardiothoracic surgeon is nuts - he's giving himself so many future patients that he'll need to operate on for AAA and stents galore.

Just to clarify something, but the Hippocratic Oath which features the words "first do no harm" is actually not sworn by a lot of doctors - it depends on region and so on but a lot of the time there will be other codes that are sworn unto. Many doctors swear no such oath at all. The Hippocratic Oath is a stereotype a lot of the time, so it's not really a good example.

So many people have lost their lives do to the effects of smoking on their body’s, my father almost lost his. That for him was a wake up call when he held my brother and I and gave him the strength to push through and go cold turkey. Yet so many couldn’t, so many people have turned to cigs to deal with trauma and issues which then leads to their lives ending short. May those poor babies fly high❤️🕊️

This reminds me of when my brother-in-law gave up smoking due to emphysema, and became much worse. His Harley Street physician recommended he get back to smoking a few because ingredients in the smoke did something or the other to the alveoli. He went back to smoking but only five to ten a day and lived to a ripe old age. This was maybe 30 years ago and I wasn’t a medical writer then so never thought to ask why. The answer would have been interesting! (Edited after thinking back to when I emigrated, and it was actually in the early 70s that this happened, not “maybe 30 years ago.”)

Dr. Mike, my 13-year-old son watches your channel and I am so very grateful that you are pushing back on medical misinformation because our kids are watching. I’ve enjoyed watching KZfaq channel for number of years and this episode might be my favourite BECAUSE you are not being bullied or silenced by a quack. He’s trying to scare you with a cease and desist letter, because he’s a bully and doesn’t want to be held responsible for his own words. Thank you for standing up. We’ve got your back!
@kjono4611

He's actually correct with the cease and desist. If you re-listen to the section of this video where Doctor Mike addresses the content of the cease and desist, it is solely about the fact that the short - being out of context - portrays the other Doctor as recommending smoking, which he doesn't. He isn't saying "I don't want to be held responsible for my own words" he is saying, "Your short paints me in a false narrative suggesting I endorse smoking which I don't, take it down as it's harmful to me" He isn't asking for the podcast to be removed, or for the specific section of misinformation he said during the podcast to be removed; he only wants the short that falsely portrays him as recommending smoking removed, and he is correct to do so. I'm not sure why Doctor Mike glosses over this and focuses on the factuality of the information given by the other Doctor, but the incorrect information that was given by the other Doctor has absolutely nothing to do with the cease and desist. Given the content of the cease and desist, it's not an attempt to bully, silence or scare Doctor Mike, but instead the correct legal response to a form of defamation caused by an out of context short creating a misleading and false narrative. It would be right for Doctor Mike to, in this instance, remove the short as it is defamatory.

I'm a molecular scientist and I work in the lab of a big urology practice. Smoking is the leading risk factor for bladder cancer. To the point where if I'm analyzing FISH specimens and see "smoker" in the patient history I know it's probably going to be positive. Also, nicotinic acid is not the same as nicotine. It's a variety of vitamin B3. I think this doctor got confused because of the name, even though it's more commonly caller niacin.

depends if its a scientific peer reviewed paper, like for NATURE, or journal medicine, those will get heavily scrutinized. if the quack doctor, is publishing the paper in a sketchy magazine(pseudoscience) then there isnt much you can do against the paper. Or if hes putting up on his own blog, or another site, yea that isnt a source or evidence, and the bad thing is many low information people often believe blog sites.
