Hi Alyssa, welcome back to KZfaq! I've missed your videos. I understand the love affair with Rome waning, as our recent trip (July 2023) to Spain and Italy really underscored some of the negative aspects of Italian life, and makes settling in Spain much more appealing to me now. Like you, I never thought I'd say that, as I have been all about Italy for a couple decades now. The deal breakers for me are the trash dumped wherever, the stray cats and dogs that get very little love, the general state of repair of daily used items (seems you have to really convince an elevator button to work, a wifi to connect, a ticket machine to dispense a ticket, a fare gate to open, etc. In Spain, all these things work without any hesitation). I think the biggest difference for me is in comparing the openness of the two cultures: Spain is very accepting and a bit more cosmopolitan, welcoming even; Italy, especially in the south, is very insular and "set in its ways" and resistent to new comers, even those of us with Italian citizenship, but weren't raised there. Anyway, I hope you find the peace you are looking for, I know I could use a bit of it myself!
