Tinman~ I tore my 036 Pro down yesterday to the bones. I flattened the cylinder bottom and top of saw, decided to do a gasket delete. I put it back together with a new Stihl intake and got rid of that hard impulse line. I can't believe it, started 2nd pull, tuned it, restated it, ran it in wood. I think you're right, when in doubt, look at those rubber parts. I must have had an air leak at the cylinder base, it wasn't flat where the halves mated...thanks for your help Tinman, what a saw. Pulls that 25" bar no problem.

I have one, and I absolutely love my 026. I'll never get rid of it. For me, it's been the best.

Because the exhaust port is much closer to directly above the crank centerline it will be less affected by putting the center of the bore not in line with the centerline. There are engines designed this way to achieve specific characteristics the biggest problem with the bore not being aligned with the crank centerline is the thrust forces put on the piston. If you look at the piston from an engine designed with the bore offset is very asymmetrical to deal with the excessive thrust

I've got to tell you, you were a motivating factor in me rebuilding the top end of my old 268 Husky. New jug, new popup piston, and oversized, now I have a 372. Thanks.

Is there a specific timing wheel you would recommend at some point I would like to attempt to port something And that cut away engine is such a great information tool love it Thank you for what you do man

So in theory you could open the intake sooner and close it later by moving the cylinder back, and get more total opening, but closing it at the same point you would have if it opened and closed at the same time with less total opening. Maybe a way to get more total opening without having the late closing spit back issue.

I too have an 026 red lever! Think it needs a set of rings but I do plan on porting one soon or maybe two🤔

Engine manufacturers and performance builders sometimes offset cylinders (or piston pin location) purposely. Some dirtbike engines are more than 10mm. Friction reduction as well as different power characteristics.

So if I’m tracking this right… I can cheat my squish by offsetting the cylinder? Say it was just a little too tight and I didn’t have machine tooling? Does that make sense or am I slow today?

I stick a small piece of wire in the port and push the piston against it. I get the same timing number every time I measure.

Happy Friday Tinman! I hope you guys had a nice family day. I'm interested in seeing more of the 394 when you get your coil. I just got mine resurrected and I'm going to go do some cutting tomorrow. Also, I'd like to see how the coil from wolf creek performs. I've always been leery of aftermarket coils. Cheers from a not so rainy St Paul Minnesota.

You could also show it by locking the crank and moving the cylinder.(For the nonbelievers)
