I really wish Leopold Mozart was portrayed in a more positive light. He was never jealous of his son’s talent or fame. I feel that he was strongly aggravated that he could never get his son to realize that with talent comes great responsibility. If anything, he was his son’s biggest supporter and really did in fact care for him, even if he was strict and at times overbearing

I never got the feeling the movie was trying to portray he felt jealousy towards his son. Rather he saw Mozart was drinking heavily, didn't have paying pupils, was accumulating debts and his wife was not keeping him on the straight and narrow. He comes across as a father trying to push his son into becoming a practical and grounded adult.

There is nothing in the movie that depicts Leopold Mozart as jealous or anything like that. The only trait that could be interpreted as a bit selfish is that he blames his son for showing little gratefulness towards his father who has dedicated his life to him. From a modern perspective, one would certainly question wether a father should drag his child hence and forth across Europe like a circus attraction and then blame this very son for not developing into a normal character. But this is certainly not the way people were thinking in those times.

I love how Roy Dotrice plays this scene. You can tell how concerned he is for Mozart (more so than disappointed), even though he hardly says a word. And Mozart is completely oblivious.

Why didn't Leopold like his daughter in law, was it because of the untidy household and her indulging the extravagance of Mozart
@vastro9215 күн бұрын
In the beginning of the movie, Constanze and Mozart plan to marry but they haven't received Leopold's consent yet. When Leopold sends a letter to Mozart from Salzburg, saying he can't take further steps towards marriage until they meet, Mozart already married her so he went against his father's order. That's probably the cause.

No truer words have ever been spoken. What was true in Mozart's time is true now. You can only truly make a living off composition once you're already established as a performer or teacher.
