I'd like to see a true latency test between the brands. They all make claims, but customers should have the true times. Knowing where each radio is made is also a bonus to know who to support. Hitec, Futaba, Sanwa, Flysky, Spectrum, Etc. All the brands.

First off thank you for this video. You just helped me teach a coworker who is just getting into the hobby the point that I've been trying to make to him. Upgrade your radio unit and in the future if you get extra cars you can get extra receivers and keep everything simple & clean. Only gripe I have with this video is I think sanwa screwed their customer base with some of their new models. The mx6 as far as I know use that fh- e system which rendered the fh-2 receivers useless. No other sanwa transmitter accepts fh-e. Then they replaced the mt4 that was fully backwards compatible with fh-2 up to fh-4 receivers with the mt-s which only runs fh-3 and fh-4. Then the next step up is the mt-44 which cost as much as your avarage rc kit and has the same issue as the mt-s. Last great sanwa transmitters where the m11s, mt-4, and mx-v.

I am one of those who have converted from many to one transmitter and once I got my spectrum dx3s I was hooked but there is one thing u forgot to address about only using one transmitter. You can only run one vehicle @ a time. If a friend or anyone else wants to play with one u will need another transmitter or take turns. Thats why I always save a few rtr transmitters. It's more fun when ur not the only one driving

Hell yes! Nuff said. My Spektrum DX5 Pro is by far the best radio I’ve ever owned. One fast ergonomic sob. My wheel is angled and tilted and with a frame rate of 5 ms, my steering servo is quicker than my hand on the wheel. Why do you want more than one transmitter? More than one receiver - yes. One transmitter - multiple memories is the only way. Finally I’m there. Took awhile...

Personally I’m running a Sanwa MT-44 for my current race stuff I’ve more recently picked up a Spectrum DX5C for my two crawlers and my other Basher type vehicles I’ve still got my old Airtronics M11X as well that one is still setup on my Nitro race vehicles (which I don’t run anymore) and it’s “That extra Transmitter” if I’ve got a friend that wants to try one of my cars it’s also a good backup to the MT44 that replaced it. I like my DX5C but It’s a noticeable step down from the M11X & MT44 but it’s lighter weight and overall cheaper system that I’m more willing to but in a higher risk situation (ie running trails) I bought my DX5C before the DX5 Rugged was announced 🤷‍♂️ still have my old FM Futaba systems too those are just for sitting next to my Vintage RC shelf queens nowadays

In getting back into RC, one thing I decided, from the beginning, is that I didn't want to play the "upgrade game". I mean, why start with a lower-end 2Ch or 3Ch, then upgrade to a good mid-range 4Ch, and then, a few years later, finally upgrade to a high-end 6Ch or 7Ch? Using that logic, I decided it was best to just "shoot for the moon". That's why, other than the TQi that came with my Rustler 4x4, I went straight for the Futaba 7PX...and, I'm extremely glad I did. Now having several off-road vehicles, plus an on-road, I finally decided to get into crawlers, which, for those familiar with crawlers, can easily need more than 4 channels - my first crawler used 6 channels. Sometimes, it IS work it to just get the top-of-the-line model from the beginning.

Can you or anyone that reads this please help me with an upgraded radio choice/different options of brands? Im new to getting away from the rtr radios and have been told to get a Sanwa, Futaba T4PM. The T4PM has a super response option But requires you to buy a sr reciever which not sure what this option is for? Not sure what the distances of range are on different radios. Theres so many dam different radios out there and each seems to be for either racing, crawling, short track This that and the other thing it makes your head spin. Its almost making me want to just sell my brand new xmaxx still in the box with losts of $$$$ in brand new upgrades still in their pkgs cuz its almost like im never gonna figure all this out! I watch so many videos on different radios and people switching from Futabas to Sanwas etc. I dont race and right now my only rc is my new xmaxx. I do like decent sized backlit screens, I would like to program lights to run off my radio, I have no clue what all the settings due on upgraded radios like all the Trims. The throttle and curve and whatever other adjustments they do. You almost have to go to college to figure out radios and rc vehicles these days. I think i made a mistake of buying another xmaxx that im gonna be building/upgrading this time with Castles newest sensored 2028 motor and esc Instead of just staying out of the hobby. I cant believe how pissed im getting with trying to figure everything out. I still havent started my build yet as i still need lots of upgrades that are out of stock and still have to spend more $$$. Please email me at jdeeress@yahoo.com or if your response goes to my email then thats fine to. Thank You.

@@nitetrain7136 I'm sure Futaba is great but probably expensive. If you have the money it's probably the best. I would guess Spektrum is also very good, maybe a little cheaper. If you want budget you could try flysky. For $50 you can pick up a GT5 which does a lot for the money. I have that and the IT4s and like both of them. Haven't had any of the more expensive ones so I can't say how much better they are.

I returned to the hobby via drone racing and I'm really disappointed with the RC car radios available. I bought a Sanwa MT44 and found it frustrating to because I was used to helicopter radios. I've now reverted to my FRSky X-lite and I absolutely love it! The handset is about a third of the price, the PWM receivers are a tenth of the price, yet it's a 24 channel helicopter radio.
@ChinaExpatsRC
@ChinaExpatsRC Жыл бұрын
I came into surface from drones and I too was a little disappointed. Stuff like there's no opentx/edgetx surface radio and there's no open source low latency rc link like ELRS in surface. And all the low latency, telemetry "racing" links in surface like Futaba and Spektrum cost an arm and a leg. Like a screenshot in this video showing a Spektrum RX that costs $79! I get low latency, over 10km of range and telemetry from a $10 rx bound to an $80 radio with my drone. Stuff like Futaba and Spektrum is dead in the drone space and we call them "legacy protocols". Surface is a good 10 years behind at this point.

If you have the M11X on the other hand, it is FHSS 3 but also backwards compatible with FHSS 2. FHSS 2 receivers are old and outdated now and will be challenging to find (we do not sell them anymore). Hi. I am looking at getting a Spektrum DX5 rugged or Pro. I have some Traxxas and Ansmann vehicles. Will I be able to bind straight to the vehicles or will I have to by receivers for every vehicle I want to bind it to? Thanks.

I did exactly this as I wanted to cut down on my radios. I did stumble on an issue, I bought the DX5R Pro and the SR6100AT and tried to use it on my E-Revo Brushless that has 2 steering servos. I managed to get mixing going and steering works on both servos, but for the love of God I cannot make AVC do corrections on more than 1 steering channel. As such I can't use AVC with that radio :( Do you have any tips on what I should do?

Im looking to get the new v5 Arrma Typhon 6s. I know it has spectrum electronics and I'm planning on using the spectrum battery bundle as well. I think I may want to upgrade the radio from the RTR package to a better spectrum radio. Maybe a DX5? How easy would that be to swap it over with the New V5 Arrma having spectrum stuff in it? Any extra parts I would have to swap or buy?
@AMain_Hobbies
@AMain_Hobbies 3 жыл бұрын
That should work. You just have to ensure the receiver and your new transmitter work on the same technology. Since the included SR315 receiver is compatible with both SLT and DSMR technology, it will definitely work with the DX5, which uses DSMR. High Five! -Brett

Hi! I really enjoy your videos, making it easier for me who is new to the R/C-world. I have an Arrma Felony and a Traxxas Maxx. Looking into upgrading transmitter and have already made up my mind on buying the Futaba 7PXR. Now the questions. As an amateur it is hard to understand what is compatible and not. Will this transmitter work with both my cars as long as i have the right receiver? Also, the receivers seem to have different ”protocols”, for instance ”T-FHSS”, what does this mean and do i have to choose the ”right one”? Is there anything else i need to think of in terms of parts before i can use it with my cars? Best regards Erik in Sweden

Hi Erik. >Will this transmitter work with both my cars as long as i have the right receiver? Yes, it will work with both vehicles as long as they each have their own compatible Futaba receiver. >Also, the receivers seem to have different ”protocols”, for instance ”T-FHSS”, what does this mean and do i have to choose the ”right one”? The protocol is the technology used for the device, and transmitter and receiver must use the same protocol to communicate to each other. The 7PXR is compatible with the following protocols: T-FHSS SR/T-FHSS/S-FHSS/FASST-C2 >Is there anything else i need to think of in terms of parts before i can use it with my cars? Your Maxx will lose TSM when you remove the Traxxas receiver, but other than that, no. The 7PXR is amazing: the screen is big and beautiful, the menus are easy to navigate and the touch screen is convenient. Very good choice for a new transmitter! Enjoy Erik! -Brett

Silly question but can you keep the RTR receiver in the car but add a secondary one for an upgraded transmitter? I want to keep the original one in case a buddy shows up and wants to bash with me. They would have their own car with the original transmitter and me with my car using the upgraded one

It might be possible. You would need a Y-splitter to split the servo wire to both receivers and another y-splitter for the esc to both receivers; but, you'll need a switch on the esc splitter to power only the receiver you want to use - you can't have them both on. Splitters come in all different lengths: www.amainhobbies.com/eflite-t28-servo-yharness-efl08261/p1252429 -Brett

Hi Sir, Im gonna be new to an aftermarket transmitter and have been told to go with a Futaba number 4 series. T4PM or the others. I am told the T stands for Telemetry which i dont know much about, Then theres the T4PM radio, T4PV and so on. I really like the neat looks and functionality and the neat screens on the Futabas. I know the Top Dawg is the 7PX, But that is pretty pricey and not sure if it would be worth it for my first one, Especially when im planning on dumping several grand into my traxxas Xmaxx 8s build. I really prefer the backlit screens, the flip up antennae would be nice on the front, All or most of the required settings options would be neat, the moveable up and down steering wheel would be neat, maybe the one with the different handle comfort grip options, I dont plan on racing. please help me out so i know which radio will suit my needs but not cost me super high end bucks, unless this might be the way to go. even maybe a 4PX? Thanks

@AMain_Hobbies 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Futaba transmitters. They're all really nice, and like you mentioned, the 7PX is extremely nice! That would probably be my transmitter of choice if money wasn't an issue. For the telemetry functions, I think you just need a telemetry capable receiver for it to work. Do you need that with an X-Maxx? -Brett

Well, then, I have a question, regarding the subject matter of this video; I have (or will have, shortly) an HBX Ratchet 1/18 buggy. It has a unified ESC and receiver. Can I swap out that unified ESC and receiver for separate components? I'm new to the hobby-grade RC game, and I can't seem to find any information on the matter.
@AMain_Hobbies
@AMain_Hobbies 4 жыл бұрын
No, probably not. You wouldn't be able to plug that ESC into a new receiver. If you upgrade the transmitter, in this case, you would also need to upgrade the ESC. But it's ok, your buggy is a good place to start your R/C experience and that 2-1 ESC/Receiver unit shouldn't slow you down as you improve your skills before you start stepping it up. Have fun Chozo. -Brett

Hello, I have a question if I use the same control for my rc. I have to pair the controller with each car before use? Or I just change the car on the control
@AMain_Hobbies
@AMain_Hobbies Жыл бұрын
No, you will want a unique receiver in each vehicle. You will have to pair the receiver the first time of use, but after that the transmitter model memory saves the information. The alternative: share one receiver between multiple cars, which will require you to pair each time, calibrate the ESC and reset your trims - big waste of time. You don't want to share receivers, instead each vehicle will have it's own unique receiver. Hope this makes sense Alexis. -Brett

Very cool! To get it going, your best bet might be to find an exact transmitter, in the same frequency as the receiver (easier said than done). Swapping out the receiver would be the easiest method but I'm afraid the receiver in that car is part of one circuit board that controls all electronic functions, rather than using separate and independent components. If I'm wrong and the components are separate, the project should be much easier. To find that transmitter, I'd start searching electronic recycle websites and eBay. -Brett

The main issue is how many people will pay $50 per futaba receiver when you can get similar receiver for 10-15 bucks from flysky or radiolink. Futaba needs to bring prices down to 25ish level for their receivers and then maybe their $250 radio might be a better deal

When I first started flying RC Planes, you invested in the RTF setup with the pre- programmed transmitter.After that, you purchased a programmable transmitter because you knew you were going to purchase other models. I get tired of dealing with all the transmitters for my ground vehicles. Unless the vehicle requires a specialized feature like the Traxxas Summit or M4 crawler, I cannot see having many transmitters, labeling them, batteries, broken transmitters etc.
