Just a fun fact. The ladies are singing in Greek-Pontic dialect from the region of Pontus (Pontos/Πόντος in Greek). At the Pontus region before the ottoman rule there was an ancient Greek town in northeastern Anatolia , called Themiscyra. Anybody who reads comics/has watched Wonder Woman would know that Themiscyra is where the amazons and Wonder Woman originated from. So this is the language that the Amazons would speak if they existed today :P

Fun fact: Pontus does not mean anything. It is the latinized version of Póntos which means "Sea" in Greek. While I personally like Latin a lot , I think it's sad that the romanized word is more widely spread than the original one nowadays :'( Sorry for this comment. I had to let out my frustration

So this language they are singing in is no longer exists? Or at least rare to use? I thought it’s Turkish or something, but know you said it’s Greek I understand why I thought that. Turkey and Greece are close to each other so I assume they are similar.
@wonderlandian8465

Greek and Turkish actually pretty much have nothing in common as languages. Completely different. This greek dialect does still exist and is known/spoken by Greeks whose familes originated from there but had to migrate from Pontus after the Pontus genocide which took place during the ottoman rule (when the pontic greeks were killed or forced to leave the land). While spoken by a smaller number of people than it was used too it is still a dialect that many pontic greeks know and speak + there are a lot of pontic songs that are very popular and are still being sung to this day.

Trabzon - Erzurum yolunda, Trabzon‘dan 18 km mesafede bulunuyormuş. “Orada karşıda Dragon Gölü’nde Triha Köprüsü’nde bin usta, on bin çırak çalışıyordu Bütün gün yaptıkları geceleyin bozuluyordu Ustalar ücretleri artar diye seviniyor Çıraklar o taşları bird aha nasıl getireceğiz diye ağlıyorlardı. ................................. It's a very old Greek folksong, this particular version is from the Black Sea, but the song exists in various versions all over Greece. It's about the belief, coming from ancient times, that in order for a built structure to stand, a sacrifice is needed - the immurement of someone in the structure. The greater the structure, the greater the sacrifice. In this case, the song describes how a company of masons would build a great bridge, which would magically fall down every night, despite all their efforts. The masons are then told by birds (which, in Modern Greek folklore, sometimes function as an oracle) that the bridge will only stand if the beautiful wife of the master mason is immured inside. That is eventually done and the bridge finally stands.

I listened all shared songs in this lib. concept. Really like all of them. But this one is dramatically different than others for me. It was the closest one to me. Regardless of the language, music can tell you much about what people lived. You may feel hurt, requiem, gloom, thrill, rebel, rage in the song. If you ever saw the lands where it come from, you easily understand marks. From Blacksea Coast of Turkish Republic, with loves and regards...

This song is about the Bridge of Trichas located 18 km from Trapezounda. In fact the song is not about the bridge! The bridge is used as a metaphor to say that great sacrifice is required if you are to succeed . If you are able to understand, the song mentions that the master bridge builder had to sacrifice his wife in order to secure the safety of the bridge. There are hundreds of thousands of Pontic Greeks and we are descendants of Miletus Ionian Greek people who founded cities from Sinope to Rize on what is now Black Sea Turkey . the language is also called Roum or Romeika from the Christian Roman Byzantine Empire but has nothing to do with Latin.It is simply a divergent form of Ancient Greek developing over thousands of years.

The song is a Greek myth. They where trying to built a bridge, working every day but every night the bridge got ruined. They where desperate and didn't know what to do, when a bird with a human like figure shows up and tells them that in order for the bridge to stand, the leader of the builders has to built in his wife. The leader is so in love with his wife and doesn't want to make her sad so they pull a trick on her and tell that she has to go in the bridge because her husband lost his ring and can't find it and is depressed about it. The wife goes in right away and the builters start building her in. When she understands what happend she starts cursing, that every man walking the bridge will fall down of it and die. But then the builters remind her of her brother that is away and her husband and she changes the curse in to a wish that everything will be good from that day and after. The myth is from when the turks had war with the Greeks. The Turkish army wanted the builders of Arta village to make a bridge so they could pass to the rest of Greece. The villagers took the job but didn't want to help the turks so every night theh ruined the bridge. When the turks asked why it took so long the Greeks said that the bridge was hunted. The chief of the turks got furious and demanded for the leader of the builders and his wife to get killed, and so it happend. The Greeks got scared an built the bridge, but they killed a bird in its foundation and cursed upon the Turkish army.
