As a high school kid in the fall of 1986, I heard a new song. It’s one of the most vivid memories I have of hearing a song for the first time. I was sitting in my room, listening to the radio, waiting for them to play this new release, anticipating the first song in a long time from a band I adored. The song began, and I was entranced. It was like a reunion with an old friend. Such a strange blending of the new and the familiar. It was more*-more of that thing I loved so much as a kid in the 70’s. Yet still new. Then the chorus hit. And it hit me *hard*. The sound of that voice and those harmonies-it was one the biggest natural highs I’ve ever had. It had *that sound-that sound unmatched in music anywhere still to this day. I had tunnel vision-or at least tunnel hearing. The room around me disappeared, as I closed my eyes and was transported again on that guitar-shaped spaceship. If I’m in the right head space these days, and I hear that old song they used to play, I find myself again launched into space aboard that city-saving vessel, piloted by the immortal Brad Delp. Thanks so much for your work on “Amanda”, Brad. It will always be a special song to me. I offer my humble rendition in tribute to your unmatchable talent.
Oh, and the Rush shirt was for my friend Connie Goudreau, who is the biggest Rush fan I know. ;)

Recording notes:
The vocals chain = Neumann KMS 105 to UA 6176 to UA Apollo Quad to Cubase Pro 8
The guitar chain = Neumann KM 184's (stereo pair) to Great River ME-1NV x2 to UA Apollo Quad to Cubase Pro 8
I also recorded the pickup signal and processed it with the UA Sound Machine Wood Works plug-in, and blended it with the stereo mic signals.
Video was shot by Valia Masse, edited by Mike Masse. The camera was a Canon EOS 70D with a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art lens. The video was edited in Sony Vegas Pro 13.

There's a device out there called the harmonizer by boss, run your mic through it and can program to add second, third, or even a fourth Harmony I believe. That's what I'm hearing you're right, either way he's good.

You know the problem with music today is that most of it runs through an audio box and gets auto-tuned making people like Brittany Spears sound great. Perhaps that is why I enjoy music from the 70's and 80's because the artists that made it big required an incredible amount of talent. Mike you are a refreshing example of that talent and I love supporting you. Keep up the good work man.

Great cover Mike. I was so bummed when I heard Brad Delp’s story. What an amazing voice and kind soul he was . Great to have you do justice to such a great song. I never got the opportunity to see Boston and its one great regret I’ve had. Life is here and gone . Tell people how much you love them while you can, you’ll regret it the rest of your days if you neglect to.

I saved and worked my rear end off to afford the tickets to take my girlfriend to Boston's concert at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. My absolute favorite band. So many memories. I played that vinyl until it was no longer able.

Mike, your videos make me smile, quite a bit. I was a huge Boston fan from the first album when I was in high school, and also your Africa by Toto rocks it. I wish you lived closer -- I'd hire you in a second for our house party this weekend! (in Los Gatos, CA). But... it reminds me how much I miss Brad. I wonder if he knew how many people loved his stuff and his personality, and who would miss him once he departed.
