Adrian changes her mind about Rocky fighting because she wants to support him. She wants him to win and believes in him. He abandoned boxing to help save her, so she is abandoning her opposition to help save him.

I was in a really terrible car crash some years ago. It was a lot of physical injury. I was in Intensive Care at the hospital for three weeks, in a coma. My late wife used to travel an hour each way every day to get to the hospital and stay by my side, so if I woke up she'd be there. When I see the scenes with Rocky staying by Adrian, I can't help it, but I cry. Great movie, and great reaction.

Rocky wanted to continue fighting after he fought Apollo the first time. He only attempted something else, because he promised Adrian. He always dreamed of being a boxer. He would've never been happy doing anything else. Which is why she told him to win. She knew that's what he really wanted to do.

The long stairway Rocky runs up at the end of the training montage leads to the Philadelphia Art Museum at the top. It is a fairly tough endurance exercise to walk up those steps, and it is even more challenging to run up that many steps.

It's only 72 steps ---- less than six flights of stairs. Joe Frazier did it before there was Rocky
@Cadmandu20007 ай бұрын
@phillymike3181 I guess it depends on your level of fitness. Frazier in his prime could do that easily, but I get winded on a standard flight of 12 steps.

I'm sorry if you mistook the comment about Joe Frazier as a personal put down. It was just meant to point out that Rocky was copying him, a matter that I read someplace that, at times bothered Mr Frazier before he died. (As for me, I know the number of steps because I WALKED up them after I moved to Philly. "A man has to know his limitations") @@Cadmandu2000

As rough as Mickey is as a trainer, it doesn't match the size of his soft heart for Rocky..... as seen by the way that he hangs around with Rocky while Adrian is in the hospital. But the thing that most people miss is this: Mickey actually realizes that Rocky has something OUTSIDE of boxing that will always give him joy and purpose, a family. Which to Mickey means that when it comes to training him for the rematch, Rocky has to be possibly the MOST DESERVING of Mickey's help due to the fact that even if the boxing thing "doesn't work out", Rocky is going to still be "okay" with life due to his family. Which is why, the training relationship of boxer/manager shifts into feeling more like father/son in this movie. And that sort of feeling is extended into Rocky 3 even more.

Amanda! You hit the nail on the head when you said these Rocky movies are a lot of things in disguise. I see it over and over, with reactors saying at the beginning, "Well, I don't like sports movies," or "I don't follow boxing." Then, at the end, they're all loving the movies. So you're right. The movies are about struggling and working hard, all the while dealing with life issues, money, and romance. Keep going. This is a good series. :)

Hi Amanda!😊 Great to see you continuing your Rocky journey! "Rocky III" and "Rocky IV" are bigger event films and are fun to watch. The thing to remember is that the Rocky franchise is a love story!❤ Rocky takes Adrian to the zoo and they see a tiger. Then Rocky buys a jacket with a tiger on the back. These things kind of tie in with the next film. Carl Weathers (Apollo Creed) was an all-around athlete which included boxing. That is why he looks like a natural in the ring. Rocky's birth name is "Robert". The stairs Rocky climbs are the location of "The Philadelphia Museum of Art". Great reactions to the second and my favorite of the two, Amanda!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

What this film highlights for professional athletes is the struggle of maintaining and managing their wealth. Professional athletes retire at younger ages than most professions and then many blow their wealth on excessive spending.

Adrian realized that if Rocky was to giveup the home and go back to the tiny apartment that he would feel despair. That he failed her and their future family. She wouldn't truly mind because she loves him, but she knows the pain will probably eat at him for the rest of his life. So even though she fears the pain or injuries that he will go through, she recognizes the only way he can be happy is by going back into fighting. So she decides to support him fully. Something else that doesn't get talked about. He already likely feels like a failure because he believed that he could get a job that's good enough and was constantly rejected. So much so that the only job he could get was manual labour. Knowing that he tried his best to find a safe job for her, knowing that the failure of that is a constant weight on his mind (even if he doesn't mention it) must have given her a better reason to change her mind about boxing.
@marcatkinson41494 ай бұрын
You will learn that one big theme through the first several movies is, that Rocky can't get fully motivated until Adrian gives him her support. While Paulie yelling at Adrian was wrong, he WAS right that as long as she wasn't supporting him, he had no chance in this fight, and likely would REALLY get injured, because he wasn't taking the training seriously, his heart wasn't in it. And Adrian changed her mind because she finally understood that he NEEDED her support to do it.

My dad and I didn't connect much in life about anything. But Rocky was one of the things we connected on. Tough old Italian from the mean streets of Cleveland in his day. And a phenomenal athlete. Wrestling, Boxing, Football. Got me into wrestling as a kid because I was getting bullied a lot. Dad passed on this year. I'm so glad you "Get" the heart of this story. That it moved you. Seeing young people touched by the things that matter makes everything feel less lonely somehow. Whatever is stressing you out, I hope you weather that storm and find calm seas to sail on.

Walk middle, sooner or later [makes squish gesture] Miyagi: get the squish just like grape. Here, karate, same thing. Either you karate do "yes" or karate do "no." You karate do "guess so," [makes squish gesture] Miyagi: just like grape. Understand? He's going to fight, but he's half-assing his training. So he won't be ready. He won't be hard and strong as he needs to be, because she keeps making it clear to Rocky that she doesn't want him to fight. She's got him constantly worried and distracted. And that will get him hurt... permanent.

If you are still curious, if both fighters get knocked down at the same time, the ref counts to ten in the same way - if both fighters stay down for the 10 the fight would be a draw (I've never heard of this actually happening IRL though), if only one gets up before ten they win by KO and if both get up the fight continues as normal (I've seen both these scenarios happen but they are super-rare). The most picture perfect double knockdown I've ever seen was Paul Samuels vs Cello Renda - for a few seconds it really looks like Synchronised Boxing as they both miss right hands, both swing round and land left hooks on each others chins and both fall down in opposite directions. FWIW they both got back up fairly quickly though.

28:53 It's the Philadelphia Art Museum, and it's an absolutely lovely place. If you wind up in my neck of the woods, visit it, and feel free to do the Rocky steps. Even though we like to rag on tourists doing it, we've all done it too at some point :P Incidentally, if you follow the line of that wide street straight from Rocky through the fountain and all the way through the trees, the tall masonry building exactly at the opposite end of it is City Hall. So in a sense, you HAVE seen our city council chambers, just not where you expected it The Rocky Statue that you'll see in later movies is at the bottom of the steps in an alcove though. If you need help finding it, ask someone, but under no circumstances should you let the crumb bums standing around it take your picture. They're just gonna try and bilk you for some money afterwards while they're holding your camera and they have you by the balls since you obviously want your camera\phone back. If you really need someone to take your photo, just ask someone going up or coming down the stairs and say what country you're from. We're nicer than we look, especially to foreign visitors, and ESPECIALLY to the French because the Revolutionary War is very much alive in the memory of this city (thanks for that btw)!
