Your garden is such a feast for the eyes. Simply stunning every time a new video comes out. Amaryllis need sun and heat, so I put mine outside as soon as frost danger has passed. When I lived in FL many years ago, we grew them outside year-round. The chipping experiment was quite a success!

Hi Danielle, I love nerine! I used to use them in arrangements years ago! They are striking. I never grew crinum so I can't comment on it, but thanks for sharing your opinion on growing it, as well as sharing the amaryllis updates. I'm amazed how many amaryllis slips you got from chipping the bulb! I can't wait to try this myself! I love the idea of planting your dahlia and lilies in pots to place in the garden! I am so addicted to amaryllis! You were a great inspiration for me to try them. I plant them with my autistic students. They loved it! The flowers were so amazing! We sold them for a fundraiser for school. Now I will try chipping with them.

The driveway garden with there’d tulips and purple alliums us beautiful. Thank you taking us along on your experiments. So interesting and makes me want to do these things too. Last year was the first year I saved amaryllis and planted them in the garden for their summer holiday.

Thank you for showing how to plant Nerines. I bought a beautiful one at the end of the season on sale and without a tag. I had never heard of them before and not sure which particular one I got. However, now, it’s coming up, but I realized I planted it too deep, so I’m going to gently remove some of the topsoil. Yay, for the Amaryllis!! I think your experiments are really interesting. 😊😊😊

Thanks for teaching me something new. I was confusing Nerine with Lycoris lilies. I can grow Lycoris in the ground in Zone 6a, but upon checking I would need to lift Nerines. I think I was using the names interchangeably. Love all the botanical info I get from you!

Love the chipping amaryllis. I can keep my amaryllis alive but rarely get them to rebloom. I am going to try again this summer with them outdoors and then review your videos of how to proceed.

Ooooh the chipping method is awesome, my zillions of amaryllis seedling I just put in the ground and treat them like a lariope or grass to fight erosion etc… since I have a new space to garden with, and they grow fast. I don’t care if they don’t flower for awhile just strappy leaves to fight of weeds 😅

I’ve not seen begonia corms planted before. You may have done so and I just missed it but thank you for demonstrating how. I would like to try some but was afraid of them rotting. Good to see it done. Thank you.

You are just glowing in this video, Danielle. And your garden is looking so beautiful. I have never planted Nerines; they aren’t hardy for me and I don’t have space to overwinter them successfully. Your results from chipping the Amaryllis are amazing and certainly seems to be the way to go if you want to increase your supply.

I think you are spot on to try and give your Amaryllis some more light, they grow in folks front yard here in the winter ❄️ along side poinsettias in zone 10b Southern California

Since amaryllis takes about 3 to 5 years from seed to bloom. I would think 1 year m focus on root growth, developing foliage to produce a bulb. 2 year grow that bulb bigger. 3 year the bulb is now established and might bloom. 4 year bulb is now mature. 5 year, yes it should annually bloom for you

Well this is interesting! "If you sprout seeds in water, once roots appear, transfer the seeds to a germinating mix, barely covering them. It takes anywhere from three to 14 years for a seed-sprouted amaryllis to flower."

Your yard always looks so nice,OMG MY ASTHMA BEEN SO BAD. Tree pollen gets me. I dug yesterday forgot to mask up. My seed Amaryllis are a year old. The ones I planted in a window box those are bigger than yours. Have a dozen I forgot in the garage they woke up in January I re potted them. They are smaller. Have a dozen bulbs to go in the 18 inch pot for the patio they love the sun.

Thanks Danielle, very interesting video, what are the orange looking flowers in back of you around minute 7? I've never seen begonia corms, are those from Longfield, would like to try some.

I am trying to grow amaryllis from seeds as well, but mine haven't even sprouted yet (I just started). But from reading, growing them from seeds is a really long process. So yours are probably right on schedule. I am not sure if I should put mine outside once they sprout or just keep them inside for the first year. I also used pink surprise as a mother plant to get seeds.

Takes 3-14 years for seed-grown amaryllis to bloom. They look healthy, so just need patience. It's a good idea to grow them outside in summer. Plant them inside their pot in the garden, matching the soil levels. Water along with your garden (not too much). Bring the pot inside over winter for their dormancy period.

Very interested to see that the amaryllis from seed aren't performing as well as the chipped amaryllis. I'm wondering if it's something to do with the nature of the pollination process that just doesn't lend itself to successful propagation? After all, it takes some of the flower breeders a decade to get something to work. Love your amaryllis programmes, greetings from Europe

I love crinum. Wish they bloomed more often but even not in bloom, they cover space most of the year.

I"m curious about why you wanted to unpot your amaryllis and broke the bulbette off now, vs waiting for fall when they go dormant? I am currently growing 22 seedlings from one cross this winter, and have successfully chipped two sections of Magic Touch amaryllis. It'll still be a couple of years for blooming though. I was just watching a video of your's from 6mo ago, the 10 design mistakes, and then watched this on. I def think I like your more open design in the walk now, compared to the big hydrangeas overhaning the walkway. It's fun to watch the changes... gardens never stay the same!

Some ideas on the amaryllis pups ... do you think they might need less space? I know they do like a tight planting. Fertilizer? Let us know how they do once you repot and set outside; I'm going to try planting amaryllis seeds directly in my garden this year and bring them in before the frost.

I bought 6 amaryllis that put on a stunning display throughout the Christmas season and well into March. They had beautiful long green leaves. I continued to water them. I wanted to put them outside for the summer but unfortunately, our weather isn't warm enough until the end of May/beginning of June. Now the leaves have mostly turned yellow and fallen off. Does this mean the bulbs are dead? Should I put them outside if they aren't dead even though they have few leaves to soak up sun? What, if anything, did I do wrong?

How do you stake your Dahlias in pots? I’ve wanted to try this but didn’t know how to provide support for them.

Have you put your baby bulbs into dormancy? I grow a bunch from seed several years ago. And just kept them growing all year round until they got some size on them.

Are you fertilizing the amaryllis-from-seed? My first thought was that they were too deep... I've done outdoor sun till September, fertilizing regularly and the bulbs bulked up very nicely.

Hi Danielle, Maybe the young amaryllis bulbs are too small yet to actually put energy into flowers? Id say give them their own pots and leave them for another year or two, to have the large roots like the older ones have. Its all about the roots that holds the energy for flowers. That's my critical thinking about propagating amaryllis bulbs. I'm no expert at all. Jo.😊

Hi Danielle, another great video, thanks. I have a question regarding alliums, gladiator etc. this season several of them only produced leaves the is no stem or flower in site and the leaves have already started withering. Should I just pull them and start over in the fall with new bulbs?

What size pots do you recommend for dahlias?

Oh my goodness, I've planted nerines a couple times, I first planted in fall, then spring and no success. I was covering them entirely. So shoulders out. After they bloom in the pot will you bring the pot in and overwinter inside? Or could you plant out? I was really off base on this beauty. Thank you! You are such a blessing!!

I don't know why, but growing from seed is slower for many plants that are not annuals. Including potatoes. I grew some from seed and they were just salad size

They dont grow big at first from seed it takes years for the bulb to get big

anytime i potted up dahlias they never did well and loss quite a few from rot
