In the back of the 4th ed Guard Codex, they have a list of descriptions of different background things, including Amasec. Its entry explicitly says its distilled brandy.

Makes sense considering the wide variety of biomes the imperium occupy. You just pick whatever edible fruit you can find then ferment and distill them. Although I'd expect vodka to be just as common since it's the easiest distilled beverage you can make as starch would be the mandatory part of the human diet and ratling will try to loot from every dead body they found to find starch for their alcohol making.

@minhducnguyen9276 very true. But from reading the Vostroyan novel Rebel Winter, I get the feeling the Vostroyan drink "Rahzvod" (I forget the spelling) is 40k's Vodka equivalent. I'm making this sound like I only read the books with explicit alcohol references now 😆

@@komiks42 I know. But normally, alcohol made from fruit are categorized as brandy and the ones made from starch are categorized as whiskey. To explicitly claim that armasec soly as brandy seems odd.

@@Kraken160th That's not to say there weren't products he would like, and then there is the matter of them just putting his image on the bottle anyway and just paying image fees to the Munitorum, which the allow as a good source of income to pay for the mountains of paper and oceans of ink they require

Until you find out most people never get amasec like the video claims and actually drink something called the "rotgut booze" To get even low grade amasec you would need to have a middling income...that most 40k humans don't have

I think that too. Imperium have propably milions of diffrent ways, styles etc of producing alcochol. Propably depends on planet, region etc

@komiks42 This is most likely it. There are different planetary liquors, and there's the Imperial term for liquor in general. Recaff, though, seems focused exclusively on hot coffee/tea equivalents. I've never seen it used for sodas or energy drink type beverages.

Closest thing i can think of is probably Wine brandy, also known as Vinjak (pronounced Ween-Yak). Pretty popular drink in the Balkans. In the grim darkness of the Balkan peninsula, there is only war.

Yup, and everything Abnett's written about Sacra and the Bagpipe-playing sing-song voiced Tanith in general who drank it definitely suggests the 40K equivalent of Scotsmen and Scotch Whisky, or possibly Irishmen and Irish Whisky, definitely something along those lines @@martind5653

Promethium is in fact a broader term than Amasec, Amasec is not wine, its closer to brandy or whiskey. Also there is an edible promethium cube, now you can imagine how THAT tastes.

It sounds like grappa/rakija, it's a brandy from the balkand that is potent and seems to be made in a relatively similar way.

Grappa, rakija and cognac are essentially all the same thing, with a few differences. Grappa is italian. In order to be considered grappa, it has to be produced in Italy, the italian part of the Swiss Alps, or in San Marino. Anywhere else and it's just pomace brandy. Cognac is also pomace brandy, but it has to be from the french region of Cognac, double distilled and aged to be considered cognac. Both of these are also made exclusively with grape must leftover from wine making. Rakija, Rakia, Raki, Rachiu, Ozo, Aguardente, Ozujo, Chacha and whatever else are just generic pomace brandies made from any must.

Based on what I've read, Mjöd (thats the name of the drink) is made from promethium (the guy described the smell of it as something resembling fuel) and a type of herb that can temporarily stop the function of the Astartes organs that deal with poison. And the lore also add that the drink can kill a normal Human, so...

The liquid's colour remind me aquavit common to Scandinavia called Akevitt in Norwegian. Made from distilled Grain traditionally though also potatoes with various herbs & seeds with the most common seed being 'dill'. Interesting drink if you get the chance to try it!

In Italy we have an alcoholic called "grappa" that is very similar to the description you give. Good "grappa" is one of the finest alcoholic you can drink, poor "grappa" is like drinking car fuel. Also, it's made from fermented grapes and then distilled

From what I understand, amasec isn't a specific brand, more just a catch all term that just means 'the good shit' on whatever world you find yourself on. Like a traveller could land on a new planet and ask 'what's the local amasec?' and it could vary wildly
