Hey I am 5ft 8 and i can not decide between the 10s or 12s inch apes. I want to go with the ones that are going to be the most comfortable. I would appreciate your input to make my decision easy on which ones to go with.
@Giantmidgetmotochannel6 жыл бұрын
BigOG TT they are really close Id go with the 12” because they look awesome. Keep in mind you’ll have to get different mirrors either way, because they both move your hands in front of the stock mirrors.
@rhowell526 жыл бұрын
After having them on the riding season would you stay with what you have or go smaller or taller? And what's your opinion after riding all season?
@Giantmidgetmotochannel6 жыл бұрын
Rubble Rouser honestly, I wanted taller, but after a season with the 12" I think they are a perfect medium, they are as high up as I can get without my hands being too exposed to the cold when it gets chilly. If I did it again I'd get the same size.

I'm 5'5" with short arms and wondering if I should go with 10" or 12". Mostly looking for more pullback.

With 10” you might be able to bring them back more and not mess up the mirrors, you’d have to do some measurements to be sure though

gabfig1 not really the '14s and later models have extra long wires and cables that can handle up to 12" bars, the hydraulic lines gave me some hassle but not impossible . I also bought the extensions for the controls, they just clipped on no soldering needed.

Thinking about getting these for my bike, are your hands out in the wind? Not sure if I want that because I ride in the cold but I've noticed there doesn't seem to be much mind right at the top of the fairing like your hands are with 12 inch bars but you can still keep your stock mirrors.
@Giantmidgetmotochannel7 жыл бұрын
They have pros and cons, the pros would be the reach is more comfortable for me, they look better on the bike, they bring my hands just into the wind, without overly exposing them, they make the bike feel more responsive, and reduce some of the felt vibrations. The cons the extra responsiveness makes the bike feel a tad over sensitive at speed, the mirrors are partially obstructed, if it's cold out the backs of my hands get chilly if I'm not wearing heavy gloves, and finally running the wires was a pain in the ass lol. All in all I'm very happy with them. I can get used to the new sensitivity, appreciate the comfort and reduced vibrations, and I generally ride in warm weather so more cooling on my hands makes up for the few times I ride in the cold.
@kylemoore96267 жыл бұрын
The bike is so good from the factory I'm a little nervous to make a big change like this, I just got a lightly used 2016 FLHXS. They look bitchin man thanks for the feedback!

if you ever have to do a swap again you may want to use a bolt and fishing line to start a guide wire line to help pull the wires up thru the bars

@Giantmidgetmotochannel4 жыл бұрын
Yuniesky Bernardo Garcia probably if it’s the same year as my bike was there was so much extra wire on mine it was folded back on itself even after the swap. I did need to add extensions to the turn signal wires but those were easily clip on parts.

Hello , great video...are you satisfied with your under fairing antenna's reception? I was going to put on , but have heard they don't work well. Did you use Harley brand? Thanks!
@Giantmidgetmotochannel5 жыл бұрын
WheelSpin1320 actually it works leaps and bounds better then the whip antenna, I think because it has a built in signal amp. But yes it was the Harley brand. One thing I do recommend is being careful to place the wire in a manner to not interfere with the fairing screws.
@wheelspin10005 жыл бұрын
@@Giantmidgetmotochannel Thanks, I'll be getting the HD fairing antenna like yours. Also, I noticed in the video yo had the antenna wire routed on top of the plastic locator bosses. Did yo move the antenna down about 1/2-3/4 inch to be below these raised contacts? Thanks again - enjoy the ride!
@Giantmidgetmotochannel5 жыл бұрын
WheelSpin1320 I think so, there were some clearance issues I had but that was mostly because I installed it a little wonky. But if I remember correctly I fixed that.

Cody Huber they are la chopper 12” mini apes, I got them online somewhere, the cell holder is a Ram universal gps mount, with an otter box defender case belt clip attached
@codyhuber77866 жыл бұрын
Giantmidgetmoto overall how long do you think it took to do the bar swap? You also didn’t need to extend anything did you? Think a real rookie like myself could do this by themselves
@Giantmidgetmotochannel6 жыл бұрын
Cody Huber it took forever to string the wires through lol, but it’s doable. There were extensions I bought off eBay for like $25 to extend the control wires but they were just plugs no biggie, the stock hydraulic lines were long enough but had to be un twisted in order to reach. There are a few really good step by step videos online that show how to do everything, I just wanted to show that Even an amateur can do it. Ps don’t forget polyurethane bushings.
@Giantmidgetmotochannel6 жыл бұрын
Cody Huber also the throttle cable was more than long enough, with lots of extra length even with the mini apes.

@freedomrider77677 жыл бұрын
I notice the 12" bars put you above the fairing where as the 10" bars put you even. Do you have any opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of both heights?
@Giantmidgetmotochannel7 жыл бұрын
Freedom Rider the 12" are closer to the 14" I was aiming for to bring my arms parallel to my shoulders, I think the big differences would be the 10" bars would completely obscure the mirrors, while the 12" only partially. And on the 12" the wind passes just over the top of your knuckles, while you would still be fully protected with the 10" the 12" look better in my opinion too lol hope that helps.
