This will be our first season growing allium’s and we are so excited. Everything we plant in the front of our home has to be deer resistant and alliums are perfect for that!!

Since you are a newby, you do need to be aware that alliums spread, both by the proliferation of bulbs and by seeds.

I have noticed on several different videos, the lady doing the interviews is constantly interrupting the other person speaking. Sure would be much more pleasant for all if she did not. Otherwise nice videos.

I liked the video in terms of variety and location (would love to visit this interesting garden). I did not gain much in information due to the interviewers constant interruption of the garden representative who was likely a font of information (that I would have loved to receive). Don't think I'll watch another video with her in it.

Nice video showing all the different varieties of alliums. Beautifully intermingled with other plants. Do you just cut them back in the fall or can you cut the stalks off after they finished blooming? I want to plant some in my garden. I take it they like full sun because of where they are planted in that garden?

I bought some allium bulbs at the Philadelphia Flower Show this March. Is it alright to plant them now (zone 5 NEPA). Thank you
@GardenGateMagazine
@GardenGateMagazine Жыл бұрын
Plant when the ground is not frozen and air temps are consistently above freezing at night. You don't want the bulbs to sit in cold, wet soil because it's not warm enough to grow or they might rot before they sprout.

When the foliage has turned brown can you then cut it back to make for easier mowing?
@GardenGateMagazine
@GardenGateMagazine 2 жыл бұрын
Hi April! Allium can be cut back once they turn brown and dried, as they have stored all the energy for next year that they will need by then.

Do I need to cut the stems after blooming? If so, how many inches should I leave above the ground? I have Millium hybrid.
@GardenGateMagazine
@GardenGateMagazine 2 жыл бұрын
We usually leave Millennium allium flowers standing-they’ll dry and hold up clear through winter for interest. If you don’t like that look, you can snip them off as low as you can into the foliage so you don’t see the stubs. Or wait until they are brown, and usually you can tug them and they’ll pull out easily once the stems are dry enough.
