@@technithusiastA lot of my original system is hardwired, big thick cables with 15 or 20 pairs going all over in the attic and walls. I have smoke detectors, alarm stuff, door and window switches all going to that. The old system there communicated with a serial line to my Amiga computer. That old serial system got hit by lightening a long time ago. My new stuff stuff is hooked into Home Assistant. I'm just ready to replace the old wired system with an ESPHome board that I'll wire the older stuff back in finally. I've got all kinds of modes, sleep/awake, dark/light, home/not home, all triggers off/on, etc. I saw a couple of your other videos, and of all the people doing home automation, you seem to have some of the closest ideas to mine. I'll have to watch your other videos, as new ideas are worth a lot. I'm also working on a mailbox notification. Yeah, the easiest solution would have been to put some wires in a buried PVC pipe. But it seemed a lot more fun to come up with my own PCB with an ESP32, a LoRa board, and a solar panel to charge the battery up.

Hi thanks for reaching out! The automations I create are Home Assistant but I use a tool call Node Red which gives a high degree of power and flexibility that can't be achieved in the Yaml based automation home assistant provides. Node-Red is its own application but it is also a Home Assistant Add-on (that's how i got started with it). As a software dev, I feel more at home with Node-Red so make all my automations there exclusively. I do have a website ( www.technithusiast.com/chaperone ) where i provide the code (JSON) that NodeRed can use to import automations (similar to blueprints)

After I stopped watching KZfaq videos and actually thought how I could use these sensors I came up with some real life uses. i actually have two similar uses: I use one of the fp2s to know if we’ve gone to bed and turn off everything and lock all the doors. I also have a security one: I have a zone where we keep our keys. So if we get our keys, there’s no other presence sensed in the house, the garage door opens & closes then the garage door opens and closes….the away mode is triggered in 10 min and also triggers the “Show notification action” to let everyone know the security system will be armed.
@technithusiast
@technithusiast 5 ай бұрын
Nice 👌🏾 How many of the sensors do you have around the house to know that there’s no other presence? For example if you have a walk-in closet or someone in the bathroom?

@@technithusiast Downstairs is pretty open concept so two cover the communal areas downstairs. I have 1 in each of the used bedrooms (2), 1 covering the upstairs landing and hallway and 1 in the Master bathroom for a total of 6. So, the two in the bedrooms aren’t set for sleep detection they’re set for zone detection and placed on the walls. I set a zone on the beds with the automation triggered at 1am. This way I can still use them to set zones in the bedrooms. ex: The master bedroom covers the bedroom, half of the walk-in closet and the bedroom door. I know that I have blind areas but I have pretty good coverage. There’s also the issue of suppose someone is in the backyard I wouldn’t know and I can’t check if the sliding glass door is locked, just that it’s closed. My solution for if the sensors miss someone was to add the notification trigger.
@technithusiast
@technithusiast 5 ай бұрын
Wow you’re fully covered! Do you encounter a lot of ”ghosting” or need to recalibrate the sensors often?
@dreddr6244
@dreddr6244 5 ай бұрын
@@technithusiast At first I did get a lot of ghosting but I took a lot of time testing the sensitivity settings for each area as well as slight angle adjustments, now they’re all on either Medium or Low. I do still get some ghosting but I don’t find that it really causes issues with HomeKit or any of the automations. As for recalibration: After getting them dialed in I’ve only had to recalibrate one sensor once. For whatever reason it seemed to think that it was hanging from the ceiling (it wasn’t, it’s on the wall) so it thought that the detection mode and placement didn’t match.

I don’t know if you’ve done this or not, but I’ve wanted this feature ever since ChatGPT came out. I don’t have the skill set though. I want full voice control of my house using real English language and use ChatGPT to interpret the language and select the function. Similar to what you did in the video but by voice, I also want it to have a voice reply to things using a randomly generated txt from ChatGPT to convey what was done. Example : a friend comes in my house and says “Jarvis, turn the lights on.” That gets converted to txt, sent to ChatGPT, ChatGPT can see that the voice came from the living room and there’s a person in the living room, and sends the command to home assistant to turn the living room light on. Then reply’s over the speaker “I turned the living room light on for you”. Or “Ok.” Or “will do.” If it does know have it clarify what they are asking for and then do that function. Also since there’s a light monitor it’d be cool to have the light monitor confirm whether the light actually turned on and if it didn’t to notify me that it didn’t work but will try again and then proceed to keep trying until it turns on.

So this is what I’m trying to work up to but the physical hardware tech isn’t mainstream enough to pull this off in an easy manner which is why I started with the AI Chatbot. The Bot does EVERYTHING you just describe except we have to type it out. Im watching closely home assistant’s year of voice improvements to see if they develop a simpler way of talking to the system but I don’t like the way they’re doing it. My ideal scenario is to use Alexa, Google or apple’s devices as an omnipresent mic to connect with home assistant but they all don’t allow it. But I have some other ideas I want to explore that I think people would like but I need the funds to test it out 💰💰

I can't say for certain since i don't know the layout and if you items that cause interference (like fans). However, with those technicalities aside, this sensor can reach about 8 meters. So if your apartment is a 7m by 10m open-concept box then it should cover the majority of your space.

1st idea first objection right away. Using FP2 for a couple of months now, I can say that an area getting "unoccupied" has a rather significant delay. It sometimes takes about a minute for an area setup in FP2 to turn unoccupied. Setting an area for bed and an area for outside the bed in the room and then setting a condition for bed to be vacated to trigger.... My son would leave the room 5 times. Not realistic. (and yes I calibrated using Aqara AI several times).
