This is the brand new Aqara Presence sensor FP2. I am excited to test it and let you know what it can do in combination with Home Assistant! The room can be divided into various zones so you can trigger different automations for each configured zone. So you can trigger automations if someone enters a zone, if someone is present in a zone for some time, if someone leaves a zone, if someone falls, etcetera. I think the fact that you can define zones opens a whole new world of automations for us.

Great sensor but still flawed, firware updates fixed the ghosting quite a bit but myself and others have issues where it looses track of people. So there can be 2 people in a room 1 leaves and it thinks you both left as it looses track of the other. If I lie down on my sofa it can after a while think ive left so its not quite there right now but its a lot better than the FP1 I have never been able to get that thing to work well. The Fp2 I will definitely consider buying more.

Thanks Ed. Just got one for my further descent into the rabbit hole! Lewis is also making firmware improvements to his presence sensor too. One item to clarify, the fall detection feature is only available when you mount the sensor on the ceiling. This is not common for most other automatons and also powering it in the ceiling is challenging!!

Quite expensive tbh, and the only use cases i can really see are switching lights on and off, which is more a gimmick than super useful. I'd love to find an actual use to justify this, but still. I just got a couple Tuya mmWave for £10-15 to play around. Not super accurate and without zones, but enough to satiate the geek.

I was a litte sceptical (as mentioned in blogs), It's not Zigbee, the high price, you have to set it up with WIFI and app of aqara, connecting with Home Kit, firmware issues...ect.. But I bought it and managed to get it to function right, and it works great! This is really a game changer in home automation. Actually, you use this device a lot when you are at home and you have a big room (living + kitchen together). --> Still the down sides need to be improved.

I find the idea of the sensor really neat. On the other hand, I don't like having to install an app for configuration. I find that this opens a door to data capture without my knowledge. While I am careful about the choice of my integration and sensors to guarantee a 100% local instance. does the app work even if you cut off its WAN access?

I just purchased this FP2 sensor and managed to set it up correctly in the Aqara app. HOWEVER, when adding it to Google Home, I can only use it as a motion sensor, in a very weird way: When entering a zone, it triggers both device.state.MotionDetection motionDetectionEventInProgress true and false, and when exiting a zone, it triggers device.state.MotionDetection motionDetectionEventInProgress false. Is there any way I can use this sensor in Google Home as a presence sensor and not just as a broken PIR motion sensor? (device.state.OccupancySensing is not showing up for a zone, only device.state.MotionDetection)

I'll stick with my DIY one that does what i need it to. Sure it would be nice to have multi-zone and multi person detection but i don't need that kind of feature set. As long as it can turn off the lights when everyone leaves the room and not leave me hanging in a dark room when i don't move enough (like a PIR sensor can), I'm good with that. Plus with as many rooms as i have i couldn't afford to buy so many of the FP2's anyway.
