In this video, Dr. Berg talks about the 8 major benefits of prolonged fasting. Prolonged fasting is fasting where you would go 48 to 72 hours or longer. The body goes into survival mode when doing fasting.
Benefits of Prolonged Fasting:
1. Regrow Brain Cells - the very specific parts of the brain including the hippocampus and the parts of the brain stem. The part of the hippocampus that has been regenerated has to do with memory.
2. Increase Mitochondria - the mitochondria are the energy factories of the body. Incredible amounts of energy will be increased when you fast.
3. Autophagy - A body condition whereby it recycles old damaged proteins, microbes, and mitochondria to build new tissue.
4. Enhance Stem Cell Production - The stem cell is a cell without a purpose and is not differentiated into a specific cell yet. As you age, stem cell production goes down. Prolonged fasting is an amazing repair action.
5. Decrease Inflammation - Prolonged fasting is essential to help someone get to the root cause of inflammation and the safe way to reduce it. All autoimmune diseases involve inflammation.
6. Decrease Tumor Growth - Tumors cannot survive in ketones and doing the ketogenic diet runs your body on ketones.
7. Increase Antioxidants - The body has an anti-oxidant network and doing prolonged fasting could cause the antioxidant levels to go up because this is where the body repairs and defends itself against microbes and other things.
8. Cell Resistance to Stress - It helps the adrenals by increasing the stress tolerance and you are no longer running on the ups and down on sugar and is basically going into this repair mode where the body starts to increase the resistance to all sorts of stresses.
How to Do Prolonged Fasting?
• Gradually - Let your body tells you how long you go without eating to get used to it.
• Refeed Slowly - When you are done with your fast, don’t eat huge meals and you have to refeed slowly because it could shock the system eating too much.
• Electrolytes + Sea Salt
• Green Tea - Naturally decaffeinated would be good. It will increase the antioxidant levels
• EDTA - The chelator that pulls out heavy metals specifically excess iron, excess calcium, and a lot of other minerals.
Prolonged Fasting or Intermittent Fasting is NOT Recommended to:
• Pregnant Woman
• Breastfeeding
• Very Thin Person / Person who wants to gain weight

How was the journey?
@sanasunshine988
@sanasunshine988 3 жыл бұрын
@@AhsanKhan-eo8dv I was very motivated through the entire fast 😊. First 24 hours were easy, I had my water with me all day, I had coffee, and I also took my vitamins at noon every day. Second day I felt good but I had to avoid being in the kitchen when the food was being prepared because the smell of it affected my stomach juices and it made me feel hungry even though I wasn’t. During the 3rd day I felt great, happy I’ve gotten thus far, great energy, I’ve visibly lost weight, the gap between my thighs got bigger, my stomach was completely flat, my skin was clean, even my face looked more slim. 🌟 Those are the good sides of it, but honestly I really missed food 😄 Not because I was hungry but because I am such a foodie! I looove preparing food and I enjoy creating different recipes. So I really missed that part, that’s why I love intermittent fasting 18:6 - it involves food on a daily basis 😄. So what I would recommend for an occasional prolonged fast is a 48h fast. That will be my next prolonged fast. I’ll try to do one every month or two. I know I will still get great results with it but I won’t be without food as much 🤗🌟

Taking EDTA after a long fast with out knowing the level of minerals in your body is a bad idea. Plus in another video he showed someone breaking a long fast eating raw greens and another eating a steak. These are the hardest things to digest especially on a system that's been idle for many days. There's nothing wrong with breaking a long fast with easily digestible carbs like well cooked potatoes creamed in a broth with milk and eggs taken in small portions at a time. There's a reason why this guy's got millions of views on yt and it aint because he's telling all the truth.

@@cottage_pie I first started with 24hr, then 48hr, then 1 week, and now I've just completed a ten day water fast, only drinking water, seltzer, and zevia (stevia extract based soda, zero calorie, zero sugar, and some flavoring, no chemicals), I also took a fist full of vitamins and electrolytes everyday. I'll tell you this: the mental clarity cannot be overstated. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I could hear the silence. I felt more present than I ever have (outside of some good times with psychedelics). I plan on working my way up to a Jesus fast (40 days). Going to continue coupling intermittent (24/1) fasting with low fat keto for a couple weeks as a break and go for 14, or maybe 21, depending on how I feel on day 14. I've lost over 80 pounds since the beginning of the year.

80 hours down. Unknown hours to go. The first secret is to start with a dry fast for 2 days and then move on to water fasting. Water makes you really hungry. The second secret and probably the most important one is to never tell anyone that you are fasting. Keep it a secret!! Edit: An update. I managed to fast for 21 days in total. My personal record. It was incredible. Plan to do it sometime again. Good luck!!

I reversed T2D. Had been on farty pants Metformin for 2 months in my 40's, decided it wasn't for me and (inadvertently) fasted for 14 hours with a 10 hour eating window - also removed processed sugar products, whilst reducing carbs in general. Although, I did eat porridge (oatmeal) every morning for 3 months. Weight dropped off, health improved and bloods returned to normal. Wish doctors would stop handing out this medication when the key is to treat ourselves better. Anybody with liver, diabetes issues, please watch Dr Jason Fung's videos. HIGHLY informative, invaluable information. Also, there's a channel called ''A Healthy Alternative'', many interviews with folk who've reversed diabetes, high blood pressure and who've lost a ton of weight. It shows a more personable side to what it's like to use different fasts as a means of regaining health. Good luck to everyone!

Today marks my 30th day of fasting. I was inspired by this video. Feeling fine, FULL of energy! Taking supplements, Dr. Berg's electrolytes, and Dr Berg's wheat grass. The ONLY bad thing is I have very loose, saggy skin on my neck...I kinda look like a turkey! 😂 I'm not worried about it, though...After I decide to break my fast, I will be taking collagen powder and exercising my body (neck included) to see if that will help. If it still is saggy, a little nip and tuck will work nicely if the sagging still bothers me. 😉 To date, I have lost 30 pounds BUT the most AMAZING thing is the amount of ENERGY I have!!! I have gotten SO MANY projects done that were put off for so many years!!! I truly am a different person now! I WISH I had done this YEARS ago!!! All of my renewed life I credit to Dr. Berg for his wonderfully informative videos and, of course, to God for designing our bodies to restore our health through His process of autophagy!!! I just wanted to share my testimony in case some of you were on the fence regarding doing a prolonged fast. One last thing, I don't feel amazing or heroic for not eating for 30 days...You know what IS "heroic?" It took me 5 days of feeling absolutely miserable (Very cold, headaches, recipes dancing in my head...struggling with not eating, yet having to cook for my family, etc.)...SURVIVING those 5 days is "heroic!!!" After those absolutely miserable 5 days, I wasn't hungry AT ALL and FULL of energy!!! Hang in there, folks...When you get over "the hump," it's smooth sailing! Here's to your health! 🤩

@@Krishanapanchaal1 I, actually, went on to complete 40 days of fasting! I STILL felt so good (I was NOT starving myself, as I still had plenty of body fat for ketosis to feed off) but decided to very slowly (as per Dr. Berg's recommendations) break the fast. The ONLY side effect I had after the 5 days was that although I had TONS of energy and mental clarity...I was not as physically strong as I normally am and THAT was a problem for me because I run a homestead that requires a lot of heavy lifting work. Household chores were NOT a problem, though. I got lots of compliments from strangers about how good I looked (I'm 62)...I guess I looked younger and healthy. 😊 Also, I would recommend that IF you do a prolonged fast, do it when the weather is warm...I did one in winter and quit after a week because the cold weather made me feel terrible. 🥶 Watch Dr. Berg's excellent videos on fasting. I would not have tried doing it without educating myself FIRST. Good luck! For me, it was a great experience!! All the health benefits are numerous! Excellent call John!! I don't bother w 24 hour fasting any longer and do 36 hour fast, once a week, without, without, any change to my working or workout schedule. (including multi-hour, fast paced mtn bike rides in hilly Oregon) That is one day and 2 nights with only water. I find this so natural for me that that often the 36 hour fast gets stretched out far beyond 36 hours. I learned to listen to my body this way, learning when I should break the 36 hour fast. This same "body talk" will inform you on longer fasts as well. fyi: my longest fast has been 8 days / 202 hours. I stopped going longer due to outside pressure from family members bend on controlling me and my options in life. They simply don't like me surpassing them (one person in particular.) I really need to stop considering her opinion at all. She is a classic progressive, Leftist, very narrow minded, believing that everything must be justified by a political purpose (politics as a religion).

Bone cancer. I am on day 2/21 days fast. First time attempt. So far not so bad. Feeling hungry but not much appetite. Food smells good but already feel exhausted thinking about eating so hopefully this feeling continues next coming days

I finished a 90 hour fast a few days ago and I have to tell you I'm with someone who has covid now and I haven't even so much as felt a tickle in my throat this whole time. Something else I've realised is that it's reignited my inspiration around food. Because I think about it more I'm much more likely to pick out things I'll really enjoy instead of just being a slave to sugar addiction and when I do that the whole culinary experience is improved 10-fold.

Amazing! 🎉 Well done and thank you for the inspiration ! How did it go? Whenever I tell people I am willing to do a prolonged fast I immediately get demonised ! They look at me like I’m crazy and starving myself to die! But I have MS and I did it last month for 72 hours and felt so good! I wanted to prolong it for 5 to 7 days but got scared as I wasn’t supplementing on anything but sea salt and couldn’t find proper feedback on the supplementation protocols. So I want to ask, what is the right dosage of electrolytes and when to start supplementing ? At 36/48 or 72 hours of fasting? Would 2400 mg of potassium be enough? (600mg four times a day) I am scared of taking a big dose of K+ and ending up with complications like stenosis or ulcers or even bleeding! Sorry for being super anxious about it but your help would mean A LOT! Thank you again I really appreciate you

I've never thought of it as "fasting" until very recently.And now that I'm aware of it I'm thinking of extending it to 24 hours.

Autophagy also breaks down and renews cells, not just proteins.
@johannesherbst3632
@johannesherbst3632 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, not true. Autophagy is a process strictly INSIDE a cell. But there are other processes in the body which re-use protein for other purposes. We have an protein turnover of 300 - 400 grams per day, but need only about 50 - 100 grams of new protein. During fasting the body gets more efficient. It needs only 15 - 20 grams / day. The body also uses surplus protein from your lose skin during fasting.

Johnny, Have you considered trying 36 hour fast, once a week, for 2 months first? That is one day and 2 nights with only water.
