Everytime I see the geese running off to her nest I think, I wish I'd set the camera up for that! So this time I did. And this is what was filmed. Very exciting footage of the egg actually being laid. The goose could so easily have been facing the other way, but as it happens she was perfect. A star, no less. And it answers once and for all the old question of which end comes out first -- the pointy end or the roundy end.
I thought it was worth putting this film up because it shows how wonderful the geese are, how interesting their habits are, and also how eggs arrive - and we don't see that everyday. So maybe you'd share this video - for the entertainment and education of young and old.
I expect her to finish the nest and sit on the eggs when she has 10 of them, or so. But that could take a while because the dog has stolen a couple and they only arrive every two days. I'll let you know how things go..

Even though this is an old clip I find it so beautiful. Mrs. Goose wanted a family. Mr Gander seems very protective of his favorite girl. I've been bingeing on Swan videos. Totally amazed at the closeness of the little families. I wish human males cared as much for their families. My Dad was good but my husband was a wash out. I should have been born a bird. LOL

Work With Nature - Organic Gardening, Beekeeping & Seed Saving The same way you don't break an egg when you lift or hold it. Auto pressure reflexes. The goose just 'knows' how to sit on it, without too much weight, the same way you know how to lift a cup of tea.. not too tightly, not too loosely.
@mikefoley3785
@mikefoley3785 8 жыл бұрын
+Work With Nature - Organic Gardening, Beekeeping & Seed Saving --The reason bird eggs don't break when they are laid is because their eggs are somewhat soft and pliable in the female's body, and remain fairly soft for a short time after they are laid. This prevents them from cracking during the laying process. The air hitting them after they come out makes them harden and they become more brittle.
