Being from Texas, where geese only fly over, I was charmed by them calling from the roofs and nesting in the flowerbeds in Boise, ID. I walked up to a downtown building we'd rented for a business conference, and the goose in the flowerbed was huge! I nodded and said, "how you doing? You're a good momma! You got a good nest for your eggs!" The goose said "honk." Only a few coworkers were in the conference room, though? Then we got a call that most of the other women had been scared off by that goose & needed a big man to escort them in. ...So, don't be afraid to acknowledge geese and give them props. It seems to work!

Great story. I had the same two geese come to nest on the roof of my shed year after year. And year after year the crows would rob their nest. Still, I fed the pair so they came around daily to inform me when it was meal time. Those two, the turkey family, the deer families, squirrels , Bluejays and chickadees all knew when the kitchen was open! I miss them.

Hilary and Hank are wonderful parents. And Deck Man is the PERFECT fairy goose father. The filming is wonderful. The narration is wonderful. And watching the parade towards the pond made me laugh and tear up simultaneously. H&H obviously trust the fairy goose father, otherwise they wouldn't go to his home year after year. Hilary will just be extra hissy at that time as she is in full protective parent mode. It isn't just that they trust this gentleman to be kind, they also know he is INTELLIGENT. People can want to be kind, and like our non human cousins, but sometimes they don't know to keep their distance - to be aware of issues like diseases that humans can pass to creatures that don't have our immunities, or can leave out things to eat that make them ill. Clearly this gentleman is doing everything kindly and intelligently.

No. Calgary, Alberta, Canada have a LOT of geese that return to the same place year after year. Once they decide your yard is a great nesting place, you can count on seeing them return.
