I was told by a college tennis coach that the reason for the "play a let serve" rule for men's college level competition comes from the fact that a pattern was developing that when an ace or other impossible to return serve was hit, the receivers tended to call a let, forcing a redo of the serve and providing a "mulligan" for the returner. An unfortunate commentary on competitive tennis at this level. Not sure if the rule currently applies to women's college level competition.

I think it hit the net after the let. What's the ruling on that?

It’s not problem. Point continues. The ball is allowed to hit the net an unlimited number of times. The ball can only bounce against the ground once though. The player in red got the ball on one bounce. Thanks!!!

the guy in white shirt shouldn't have withdrawn from the net.. staying there he could have won the rally by closing all the angles ..

Very stupid to play 'lets' on the serve. Americans try to modify everything to ridiculous levels. Good they don't do this at pro level and no wonder men's tennis is declining in America at pro level

It was to keep players from cheating and calling let’s when they got aced. This way they have to play the serve. Players were calling let’s when they couldn’t return the ball or when they got aced. Thanks so much for watching!!

Makes for incredibly exciting points. The cool thing about doubles is the partner can come over and return the serve on a let. Really fun stuff. Thanks Glen!
