This is one of the greatest dust devils of all time. I just spent 4 days out there in the playa hoping to capture one this well-formed. 20 hours spent over the past 4 days, and none that I saw came close to this. What a shot..

A lot of people are asking why I didn't go inside it. I had seen some small dust devils that were destroyed by people going into them and interrupting the airflow. This was too beautiful to destroy. It only lasted a few minutes until people messed with it and it was gone.

That superfine dust is so difficult to get off out there because there isn't much water! It would literally embed itself into your scalp and every nook cranny and crevice of your body!! 🤮

I think you wouldn't be able to breath inside that dust devil. I live in southern Nevada, far away from Burning Man, but we have that super fine dust als. KEA's correct, it gets into every nook and cranny, places you'd never expect it, even inside your home. Still, my first thought was what would it be like to step inside it? Would it lift me up and toss me out onto the playa? I think I'll just keep wondering and not find out.

@@finmueller7827 Ya, now that I think about it, you're right, dust is a lot lighter than a human being and if it was strong enough, yup, it'd be howling. Ha, I guess I'll have to find another way back to Kansas, anywhere other than this God forsaken desert. When you stop and take a look around anywhere in Nevada, you have to admire the courage and somewhat sadistic behavior of the early settlers. To travel across this barren State on four wooden spoked wheels hoping the rumor about California wasn't just more misinformation, well, that takes a bit more courage (or desperation) than I could ever come up with. Pretty cool to be so close to that dust devil. If I was smoking the right stuff, I'd call it "almost spiritual". LOL. Thanks for the clarification!

@@xMRPx no problem! Fun fact! These can occur on land, known as land spouts, those are ones you don't want to enter though, they can pick you up, they are not tornadoes, but are at the same time, due to touching the ground, but not enough to break anything and being so slow you can out walk it

Hello my neighbor to the north! I live in mass and...I fuckin love Maine! Especially hiking around Graftons Notch, Acadia NP, Sabego lake ect... We actually can get them up here, but it's incredibly rare. I've only seen it twice and its not nearly as spectacular as this, but the biggest one I've witnessed was when I was a kid during one recess. It was a day just like in the video, not a cloud in the sky. Suddenly out of seemingly no where the wind kicked up and I saw this thing going across the baseball field and i could hear it whipping small rocks against the fence. I recall one kid was riding his bike and rode right into it and got hurt from the rocks hitting him. It scared the shit outta me so I ran up the hill and up some stairs next to the school and froze up. I was fascinated with the movie twister back then to the point I wore out the VHS. I thought it was a legit tornado haha. The teachers were trying to get me to come back down to play after it had passed, but I refused lol.

these things are like domestic tornadoes. always see them driving through southern oregon but never get to get out and walk up to one

“Ring Around the Rosie” dates back, or so I read, to the time of the Bubonic Plague. Seems the smell of the dead, covered in open and infected sores was so unpleasant they began putting flowers in the pockets of the dead before the mass grave could be prepared. Ugh.
