I've been breaking rock and reinforced slabs for decades, they should toss it down on tires, this way it stays in one piece, then they can wire saw the pieces, they're losing so much product that way...

If you move spoil from other areas of the quarry to create a softer pad for the fall you could avoid uncontrolled splintering like in 9:20, I'm not impressed.

We use tires on my mining projects, we have hundreds of used tires we set them below the drop and it plops down nice, then we wire saw the granite and lose nothing to damage

They also could have cleared the landing area of rock. The rock in the landing area made the landing stressful on the slab by making the landing forces uneven and concentrated in some spots

I suspect the whole point is to break it into smaller pieces, think about how much labor it saves. Also consider that the loader struggles with much smaller pieces than that giant block.

To me, it looks like they are using slightly under-powered equipment. There are certainly larger machines that could do it faster and safer.
