A lot of negative talk about this guys boat . I've built boats all my life wood and fiberglass. And I think you bunch of haters should keep your comments to yourself at least he's trying and it's probably his first boat .I'd be willing to bet that you negative people couldn't even come close to building a boat 🛥 so please give the guy some credit.

I see a lot of compliments and a lot of complaints, but not constructive criticism. Here I attempt to offer some. The seam and batten method can make a strong boat, if the joinery is good and the design transfers loads well. Four simple changes to strengthen this boat. Fair the planks to lie flat to the stem, bed them in asphalt. To improve the joint at the keel, cut the middle bottom planks at an angle, then fit finely with a plane. Use long timbers or scarf the planks and battens, and lay them in long arcs. When the planks or battens must be assembled from shorter pieces, stagger the joints fore and aft so that nowhere is one joint in line with the next joint above it. Run a timber fore and aft along the inside of the top of each frame. For less drag and easier paddling, paint the outside with exterior latex primer and cover this with several coats of exterior exterior acrylic-latex paint rather than asphalt.

You are a great woodworker and I applaud your boat build! What are you going to name her? Make your next one bigger, and try to use a steamer to steam the long pieces of wood so you can use one piece and bend it, making it monolithic from front to back. Keeping the planking and d structural monolithic, at least from front to back will increase the strength overall of your craft. Best of luck and smooth sailing friend! 🙏💪👍

Hi. You did really good job on that small boat .but you know the screws will get rusty with time on water even you painted it with that black oil water resistant. I'm not spécialist on boats but I have some skills and I think that it will damage the wood with time. Anyway it's just my opinion. Thanks 👍

All I saw was a guy pole the boat around a shallow pond. There were no oars or oarlocks. The boy with the double-end paddle was not using it, possibly because the boat was too heavy to paddle. Anyway, sitting on the deck is too high and unstable, and sitting on the floor is too low and wet -- seats about midway in height would be about right. The tar will likely be a mess in the sun. Need a line on the bow (called a painter) to help dock and secure the boat. However, you put in a lot of effort and material and you know your carpentry, so I wish you well. Just stay away from deep water. 😊
