2024 Acura RDX review by The Straight Pipes. The Acura RDX A-Spec is putting down 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque from a 2L Turbo 4 cylinder. At $61,930 CAD, would you take it over the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC, Audi Q5, Genesis GV70?

I have a 2019 RDX Advance SH-AWD at 65k miles. No major issues. The small pano roof pops softly every once in a while, not too often. The brakes squeal after humid weather, but it's just rust prone rotors, good aftermarket rotors will easily fix this issue. It has nearly the same power as a 5th gen 4Runner, but I can get 30mpg if cruising at 50mph, no stops, with premium fuel. I average 22mpg with highway and city driving. The RDX with premium and sport mode can beat a Audi S-Line Q5 in a drag race, look up the videos. We've taken my dogs on road trips with it. We've go up mountains during winter, or crossed southern state borders in summer. No issues. Premium is NOT required, you can use regular fuel. Premium is only recommended. It has one of the best SH-AWD. I've taken it down country ass dirt roads and had the OEM wheels caked with mud but it wouldn't stop, and would barely slip even at steep inclines, this latest gen of SHAWD almost feel like a true 4x4 system. I know, I've had TRD Tacoma, 4Runner, and now we have a Wrangler JL. With Audi, you have Quattro but an Audi will not be as reliable, I had an Audi A6. You have Subaru Asymmetrical AWD but the reliability of the Acura is better (detuned Type R 4 cylinder turbo K20) and is slightly better put together than the Subarus. It has plenty of space with seats down, almost completely flat. It can comfortably hold 6+ft tall people in the back seats, couldn't do that with my 4Runner. Headlights are crazy bright and you must angle them down, no need for aftermarket headlights. Seats are nappa leather with trim, 16 way power adjust, heated and cooled. Steering wheel feels solid, buttons feel solid, even the turn signals feel solid, meaning, it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart after 10 years of daily use. Pano sunroof is standard. The Audio system is incredible with roof speakers as well. It's a jack of all trades, master of none. It's not as luxurious as a BMW/Merc/Audi but it's more reliable and cheaper to fix. It's not as fuel efficient as a small Toyota/Honda but it's more fun to drive. It's not as big as a 4runner, Pilot, etc larger SUV but it's more fuel efficient and more features and premium. The RDX is a practical vehicle for someone who doesn't want a boring generic crossover/SUV.

Nice Overall, practical review. Continued Good Luck !! In 2019, I test drove the new RDX and the 2019 MDX Advance to replace my 2016 Infiniti QX60 {I lnow, What Was I thinking when I leased that car in 2013]. The RDX teased me with great handling, great pep and delicious sound system, BUT the TTIP Touchpad was a definite Deal Killer for me. I leased a 2019 MDX which had Old & Tired InfoT. - but easy , peasy to use. In August 2021, after seeing the new redesigned MDX on line and the multitude of positive Reviews on Line, I pursued the new MDX (Acura offered a nice deal to turn over my lease with Loyalty Bucks). Although the new MDX has the TTIP system, I loved the redesign so much, I decided to go for It. Now after 30 months of use, I still have difficulties with the TTIP. Family members who use my MDX on occassions - hate it! . When I leased the 22 MDX, I did drive a new RDX as well. I almost pulled that trigger, which would have saved me some $$$$$ in the total transaction, but after I drove the New MDX with it's new handling & suspension, and seeing it in Person, I was sold. But the RDX was seriously a strong consideration, a very good car, probably best in that class ! One gripe and a shortcoming IMHO was how Acura in its infinite wisdom, did not include a Powered Steering Wheel adjustment?? That works so well with the Auto Entry and Auto exit features in this MDX and in the last 5 cars I've had (4 Infinitis, and the 2019 MDX).

I’ve had my 2019 RDX for 2 years now, and I genuinely can’t think of a better car in this segment. I have 2 car seats in the back that fit with no issues despite me being 6’4”. The cars handling can’t be talked about enough, but the thing the RDX does better than anything else in its class is the audio system. The ELS is unbelievable. It makes you feel like you are at a concert with the emersion. No way around it, the infotainment is trash, but you get used to it. I can do everything I need with no problems. The only other true downside is the gas mileage is absolute trash in the City. This thing wants to be driven and when you do, the gas mileage is in the 18-20 range in the City. Other than those, this thing is unbeatable at its price vs the other cars in the segment.

We're looking at SUVs right now and weird is definitely the word. Terrible powertrains (Outlander), awful removal of tactile or even visible controls (Atlas SportCross), terrible infotainment software (Venza), weird steering controls (rx350h), terrible engines and broken transmission tuning (every Hyundai group vehicle), more weird infotainment controls (CX5/CX50)... So all things considered, I don't think I'll even touch the trackpad once the music is bumping. But the otherwise "normal" way about everything else in the RDX has it at the top of our list. Shout out to the Honda CRV, which is overall the best and most normal newish Hybrid, and probably the smartest one to buy. But to tap into likely the last generation of luxury SUVs, the RDX blows everything else away, until you spend $20k more on a BMW, Audi, or Benz.

My boss has a new MDX and I absolutely love the touchpad. I’d rather have BMW or Mazdas controller, but Acuras touchpad was a super nice alternative. I don’t want a touch screen, gets super dirty super quick and it catches sunlight so much more. Keeping hands off the screen makes it so much easier to see the thing. The infotainment system isn’t that bad either, I don’t understand why it’s so hated.

I have a 23’ RDX. The trackpad is great in design but the execution isn’t the best. It doesn’t work like the rest of the system in car play, and it’s missing a lot of small features that my 21’ Accord had. You can’t adjust the arrangement of the driver display, it’s missing a trip computer on the center screen, and you can’t do small things like change priority of CarPlay devices like you can in the accord. If CarPlay worked like the native system, it would be great. BMW still has the best of both worlds for having both touch and a very good physical dial.
@brandon2755
@brandon2755 5 ай бұрын
@@davidlake611 that’s partly why I like it, the fact it switches to left/right in car play vs precision touch. CarPlay and acuras system aren’t the same so it makes sense to me that they don’t behave the same. BMWs works better in CarPlay because the control wheel just performs a left and right function already. I do still prefer BMWs controls over anything else but with every other brand is removing control wheels and touch pads entirely, it’s nice that Acura still does it. I don’t like that the integra switched to Hondas system without the touchpad and that’s got me worried that Acura will just remove it entirely moving forward. Mazda and BMW are the only ones left now, and BMW even removed it from the new X1 but I’ve heard rumors they’re going to discontinue that one so it’s not as worrying. The rest of it could be just written off as different brands doing different things, in my mind.

As an actual owner of this infotainment system in an MDX, I say it’s fine when using Acura’s native system. It’s only a little annoying when using Apple CarPlay. My other car is an Integra, and it’s more annoying having to reach over and touch specific points on the screen esp on bumpy roads.

The space in the rear seats is great. Climate control with the switches and buttons in the front regular stuff. The PRNDL is weird but you get used to it also. The gas mileage could be better. I like flooring it so I can’t complain lol. I’ll say the aspec is the trim to get, as it comes well loaded for the price. Only thing i woulda wished it come with was the rain sensing wipers and the adaptive dampers. I was actually lucky the one i chose had remote start on the key fob which is only a aspec advance featured. Dealer only charged an extra $150 instead of the original $700 on the website.

I’m about to trade in my 2020 RDX Platinum Elite (AKA Canadian Advance model) and I just want to agree - the handling is excellent. I bought lighter 20” wheels and higher performance tires and the car absolutely makes great use of them. I could complain about the issues I’ve had, but the handling, especially on throttle, is ahead of anything else in the class short of a (far pricier) X3 M40i (as lesser X3s are no longer available with a torque vectoring differential in the back, which is standard in AWD RDX’s, nor an adaptive suspension, which is on the top trim RDX).

What I'm curious about is what car do you guys use as chase car. It never falls behind or hinders the cliché corner car. It always seems to stay in front lol.

Does anyone know why the Honda accord hybrids get a different infotainment than other Honda hybrids and Acura?
@carlmurphy6582

The infotainment is fine especially if you only use Apple CarPlay. It isn’t that big of a problem as they make it to be. We’ve had our 2019 RDX since launch in 2018.

10:05 Acura's technology is very advanced, even a 2014 MDX has the forward collision warning Heads Up Display, and lane keeping assistance (auto-drive), like Tesla's Auto Pilot (the free one).

I love the RDX, it looks good, drives amazingly well, I just wish they would upgrade the tech. Overall i think I would still pick the NX, I prefer the interior tech and I slightly prefer its design, you can also get trims that get 40mpg which is hard to beat

I've had Acuras with the button shifter for 8 years on 3 cars. Once you've spent a month with it, you'll appreciate everything about it much more. The gear shifter becomes second nature, and so does the infotainment and track pad. It's a learning curve. My wife has the new NX 350, and we got it because initially it wowed us like Lexis does. However after having it for a month I can confidently say Lexus is way over hyped, and we'll marketed. The shifter on the Lexus is alot more difficult to use compared to Acura, and the remote start on the key fob has a very shore range. You need to use the app. My Acuras remote works from a very far distance. Also, 16 way adjustable seats are more comfortable that the Lexus. If Lexus had the push button transmission, I'm positive everyone would love it because it's "Lexus", a well marketed and good looking vehicle. It's. It's not much reliable than Acura from our experience, and neither is the service department. The handles to open the car are those rubber buttons. They let moisture in, and stopped working in the winter many times. The dealer told us to use hot water or keep a hair dryer in the car to defrost them. Her question to the dealer, what do I plug it into at a parking lot, and how do I get it out of my car? Am I supposed to keep it in my bag with an extension cord? It among other things were fixed in the first 6 months of ownership. What they do well is try to create a relationship based off of giving you gifts regularly when you buy the car and service it. That's the difference from someone who's got both brands. The reliability is the same. Most Lexus people I know have had issues, they just won't complain or make a big deal about it because they refuse to admit a deficiency with their high reputation Lexus/Toyota. The AWD system on the Acura is light years better than the Lexus. I'm looking to trade my TLX for an RDX next week.

Lexus is overrated and boring. I do agree that it’s reliable and that’s it. Other makes are just as reliable now. Honda/Acura is way more fun to drive than Toyota/Lexus.

To turn off traction FULLY without pulling a fuse: - car must be on, and in park. - press the brake pedal , turn traction on and off. - release brake pedal - engage e-brake , turn traction on and off - with e brake still engaged, press the brake and turn traction on and off. Light should be flickering. Immediate throttle response and full access to the SHAWD potential. This works on almost all new Honda / afire products 2008 and up I’d guess. You’re welcome

Depends on what your priorities are in a vehicle. I’ve got no issues with the pad but find the modern vehicles with touch screens to be very distracting to use while driving. I have a Ford and Honda and the Ford system with things like the heated steering wheel control embedded in the climate control screen to be ridiculous. If I want to play on a touch pad I’ll wait to get home. My vehicles need to be focused on a combination of dynamics and comfort.

The sub-24 MPG had me using regular gas again because it doesn't matter imo. I thought premium gave better mileage but after 57k, staying the speed limit (or under 65 on the highway), and turning off A/C are the only ways to stretch mileage. I've just given up on getting more than 24 mixed use. And I hear the MDX is 17/21/19 😩

Having a TLX Type S for a while now, I don't understand why they shit on the infotainment so bad. Nowadays everyone and I mean everyone has Apple car play or android auto. I sit in my car, plug in my phone I use my phone to start playing music or navigation (if needed) and that's literally it. Once in a blue moon I have to use the infotainment system for something but other than that... It's really not that bad to use... Deal breaker? Absolutely not. It's almost got to the point I can use the track pad without barely looking at the screen because of muscle memory
