Home Free has grown so much since winning the Sing-Off (Season 4). I agree about their strength being their warmth...both in their sound and the meaning behind their song choices. ❤

Even when they are silly, there is a warm embrace. Like in the Butts Medley, the only twerking and objectification of butts is of theirs and their buddy Buegs, not women's.

The way Home Free chooses music is so interesting because each song will bring up an emotional response. They can make you feel joy, sorrow, loneliness, anger, but most of all contentment after you process the entire song.

I love Home Free's version of this beautiful song. They really brought out the emotion of it. Tim's lead is amazing with his deep bass. Also love Rob & Chance's solos plus the great harmonies. And Adam is tasteful in making the simple sound of pounding his chest & thigh. I believe we can change our course in life. We don't have to make the same mistakes as our parents. We can choose to rise above it.

A beautiful song by John Mayer, very well covered by Home Free, giving it its own twist, but still keeping the respect for the original. This song really gets to me. Of course because of the lyrics, but also how it is sung. Singing is emotion and Home Free proves that here. Everyone has their own important part in this. When Tim takes the lead, Chance takes over the bass which is so great. The amazing harmony. And the perhaps simple "sound" of Adam, but so important to make the song completely perfect.

In general the Home Free guys get together and determine which member is best suited for lead in each song. No egos here. In fact, during The Sing-Off the judges tried to talk them into dropping Rob as lead and they refused. Their latest is a collaboration with Mark Wills (Don't Laugh At Me). Pentatonix won season three of the Sing Off. Home Free won season four of the Sing Off. Voice Play competed on the Sing Off also on season four. Home Free has a close relationship with Voice Play along with other competitors of season four. HF and VP did a video together called Zombies versus Hillbillies. Robb appeared in a VP video. Layne Stein of VP did the arrangement of HF's Buttz Remix. Pentatonix met Home Free on the season four finale. Pentatonix was the guest performer for the finale. Home Free was one of the finalists. Later Avi of Pentatonix performed with Home Free on a video of Ring of Fire. He also did a cameo on Home Free's Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget. The title of the song is a common saying in the South. Adam Chance wasn't a part of Home Free during the Sing Off. Chris Rupp, the co-founder of Home Free with his brother Adam, was a member of the group at that time. Adam Chance was a member of Street Corner Symphony that won second place on the Sing Off on season two As you can see, the the acapella world is small and interconnected. Tim sang for several acapella groups before Home Free. He was offered a position on Street Corner Symphony as their bass. SCS had won a spot on the Sing Off when they lost their bass. They offered Tim a chance to be on national television. Basses are the foundations of acapella groups and basses like Tim are rare. Plus Tim has an amazing range. Tim at the time had decided to quit acapella entirely so he turned down SCS plus three other acapella groups that wanted to audition for the show. SCS then recruited Adam Chance for their bass. This was Chance's introduction to the acapella world. He would probably never been an acapella singer if Tim hadn't turned down SCS. You might want to react to the Song Off performances of Pentatonix, Home Free, and even Voice Play. Really like your t shirt. Nice design. The slogan in the political climate might be rather risky to wear. Some people might take exception to the slogan thinking it supported the pro life movement. It's a pity that everything has been politicized to such a degree that s positive statement can't be accepted on face value. As for religious music their version of How Great Thou Art is outstanding. You have reacted to some of HF's more serious songs. Enjoyed your analysis. You might want to play some of their more humorous songs. The guys in HF are multifaceted. They are serious artists, entrepreneurs, family oriented, goofy, community minded, talented in various other ways, humble, cheering, and so forth. They seem to be building a diverse group of fans and supporters that is almost like an extended family

thank you for your thorough and informative comment and the kind words. :) If you want a shirt like it, you can check out my store in the description. I know it may be taken a certain way from a political stand point, but I don't mind at all :) this shirt particularly was designed based off inspiration from Dimash's song "story of one sky". have you seen it? and i agree. many things are politicized. We mustn't let it silence us. :) it's neat that the acapella world is interconnected and that they collaborate together. I'm excited to dive into voiceplay soon and other HF and PTX songs too. have a blessed day :)

Loved your analysis on this beautiful song. I've listened to this song many many times by both, John Mayer and HF. What I get out of it is... I see someone who perhaps grew up in a toxic home, possibly because of a very jealous mother/father who probably loved each other, but tore each other apart, and as he/she has grown up, possibly watched his siblings relationships also go awry. So now he/she is very guarded, "afraid" to have a meaningful relationship, fearing it will also end badly, with a broken heart. So now, he/she is questioning themselves, "Can I be different? If I try to have a relationship, can I succeed? If I 'change' the things as I know them to be, can I be successful and have a good, long lasting relationship? Is it even 'possible' to make the changes that I want to succeed or is it 'in the blood'; or can it be as easy as 'water'?" 🤷‍♀️ I see this as trying to conquer a fear (love: giving/receiving/keeping), the one fear that's most important to him/her. Nice thought exercise! 😉👍 Great reaction. Thx!

Hey Rosalie... The incredible power of good music is encapsulated in your reaction to this song. So many good points you've made in your analysis - so many interesting questions this raises - many without easy answers (one of the points of the song I think) - and all based on personal perspective (as you so eloquently explained). One of the comments you made is sticking with me... You said "truth in and of itself is absolute". I understand what you meant. Yet, truth is also always interpreted. And when mixed with the implications of sociologic factors, it becomes less absolute and more based on perspective as well. Thus, one person's truth (the meaning of the truth) is not always another's truth about the same statement or topic. I think that's part of the pondering nature of this song as well. Ultimately, maybe this song is about this question: Can I change/grow so I can be the person I want to be, or am I stuck because of influences beyond my control? Ultimately, can I change who I am? I think trying to answer that question can lead to us becoming better humans. Thank you for your reaction, my friend. I totally agree with you - it takes work to get unstuck, regardless of why you're stuck in the first place. Love and hugs! xo 💗🤗✨

Hi Avila, so well said!!! Yes to all of it!! :) Agreed. truth in theory is absolute, aka true, but we often forget what we deem truth, is only a theory until proven false. I'm wondering if by seeing the beginning of this song, we see an older farmhouse on a long dirt road where the family is close and more secluded. Perhaps the song more centers around their own feelings, circumstances, and thoughts about their own family trials in water or blood as those feelings start to branch out to other potential jealous loves.

Homefree respect women and always try to do songs with a significant message so to finally see someone not only appreciate the incredible talent but to really recognize their depth! Be warned though, they do not take themselves very seriously despite their insane abilities. They perform completely Acapella and are amazing fun to experience. I say experience rather than listen because they can have as much going on in the video as well as how talented including their Beatbox/Founding member. Welcome to the Rabbit Hole! I love your analysis. Also what I heard in the line "how much like my brothers do my brothers want to be?" Washington's the Narrator asking if his Brothers ever questioned who they are and If they are happy and content knowing how they see themselves. Like asking if his Brothers ever experienced this Self doubt or state of deep reflection and need to pick a path. It really seems as though the narrator is lost and is seeking a path out of this place he feels trapped in, but he has doubts as to weather or not he can be what he needs to become. Can he choose his path? Or is it set in stone, in his dna. It is a beautifully deep song. So many things to unpack. I could fill a notebook or two delving into this. And Masterfully sung as well. You really feel the anguish...without voice cracks and crys. As a man that has gone through a 20 year long horrible marriage and an even more horrific divorce this song really speaks to me. As for any answers... the self doubt hasn't gone away i think that not feeling good enough is part of the human condition, its probably got something to do with our genetic fight or flight response (my theory) . As far as any other answers. All you can do is do. Pick your move and make it with confidence. If its right keep moving if its wrong analyze why pick your next move and move with confidence. Apologize when you screw up, and mean it. Say precisely what you are going to do and do precisely what you said you would do. Have integrity. Speak Truth. "How much like my brothers do my brothers want to be?" This is the line that has stuck with me. Helps me when I find someone frustrating to ask "Does this person want to be like this or are they stuck in some family pattern and is there someone they would rather be?"

Beautiful and powerful, the song, the performance and your reaction/conversation. Today we know, through science, that we CAN change how our genes express themselves. That we are not destined to become anything. We have far less genes that ways they can be expressed and it's how we think, feel and act, what we experience, that triggers how it is expressed. And since we already know through science that we can take control and change the way we think, feel and act, even on a subconscious level, we also know it's completely possible to change whatever is with us from our parents, and society. It's all in our own hands att the end of the day. We have the choice to do the work to make the changes needed for us to become who we want to be and to love the life we want to live. We are not destined to anything, unless we believe we are. It's hard work, for sure, but it's not even close to as hard work as it is thinking and feeling like we're doomed to something while waiting something else. I love the work, and science, by Dr Joe Dispenza. Millions of people around the world are healing from their "inherence", their pasts, and even diseases through diving into it. Learning and understanding the science that exists today, the science that is new (IE the last 10-20 years) is empowering. Like neuroplasticity and epigenetics. Thanks, Rosalie! 🥰🙏

Pentatonix is the corporate put together version of a capella. Voice Play is the musical theater kids of a capella. Home Free is the more organic version of a capella. All are highly skilled singers.

Hi Rosalie! I'm a longtime Home Fry, and your mention of VoicePlay just earned a subscribe! HF originated in Minnesota, but VoicePlay originated in Orlando, since some of them came from Disney. Check out VP's "We Don't Talk About Bruno". VoicePlay's bass, Geoff Castelucci is amazing and can give Tim a run for his money, I love them both! And both Geoff and Tim have solo covers which are fantastic.

Tim helped Geoff, and others, how to strengthen their low notes. HF began using the methods of layering harmonies of single soloists and massive groups--then Geoff learned it also.

Sorry my reply was so broken. Tim has shown other Acapella basses how to get the low notes enhanced. The method of layering harmonies was pre-TickTok but was used a lot during the pandemic when groups couldn't physically get together. Peter Hollens has done several songs with the Home Free group and Tim.

By the way, the lyrics in the 1st verse are "how much of my love will be INSANE to some degree?" Not "in sync" as I believe you said twice. 👍

i would like to elaborate other than my painful life story is a long one i'm 60yrs old now && had to hold it together for so long for my mothers sake however she pass a few months ago at the age of 97 i've cared for her for 15ys or more i can't quote as it was a pleasure for me to do so however with her passing right where i'm sat as we speak holding my hand. right now i feel my job is done & i simply no longer wish to be on this earth i will not miss it & it for sure will not miss me. my job is done & now i need to go.

Tony, I don't know you at all, but I want to say that I feel your hurt and desire to check out. I lost my wife of 47 years four months ago, and at the end her last words to me were "I'm done with you!" That's a lot of pain and blame to live with, but I still have family to live for. I'm 70 years old, and have felt the same way many times. Please reconsider and seek help; there's no shame in it. Pardon me for stepping in, but you sounded like you had given up.

The verse is not "How much of my love will be in sync to some degree" the word is "insane". The other word is not I "cant" feel the love I want. It's I "can" feel the love I want.
