#keybored Amazing Keyboard under $200 - JRIS65

Welcome back to the channel guys! There has been many milestones in the keyboarding hobby, and one such major one was this year, when Qwertykeys (Owlabs) decided to drop the QK65 "entry" keyboard. Clearly, it was a non-entry keyboard hiding behind a "entry" price point. Since then, many new keyboards came out to challenge it, but fell short. Now... the real challenger is here... the JRIS65... I know... the name is dumb.

Just pulled the trigger on this (my first mech keyboard) thanks for this video. Went with milky white too. and I’m beyond excited. Can’t wait until Q1 next year. Praying for minimal delays on this. I'm ready to build my first mechanical keyboard and doing very deep dive into the world of custom mechanical keyboards over the last two weeks. The first sound test you did on this board with all of the foam and plates included sounded the best that I've heard so far. The only thing is I need a 10 key. What would you recommendation be for the closest thing to this board with a full size build? I think I'm definitely going to go with the ink black switches but I'm not sure which full size board to try to build and source

I wish the standard for review would be plate only, no foam, just to see how the keyboard sounds. And measure every other build (plate foam only, plate + case foam, plate + pe + case foam) against it. But at least the plate only build would be nice to hear since most of us start with that build. Regardless, always appreciate your efforts, Scott. You stand out amongst reviewers because of all the other technical details you explain in your reviews.

HI Scott. Great video as always, and great intro. I just thought it was always going to be a "jay-ris", so when your alter-ego came out with the jPhone, I was like "Of course that's why it has a terrible name!" I'm also glad that the QK65 still reigns as a top entry-level keeb. More than anything, I love the fact that it's forced more companies to innovate in this space. On an unrelated note, I was wondering how possible it would be to make a playlist with the videos where you go into sound science. I find myself often referring to them and recommending them for people who want a certain sound, but I struggle to remember which videos they showed up in. I'd love to tell people "Check out this playlist" to help them learn how the various components contribute to overall sound profile. Thanks as always!

I actually sold my qk65 because it was too stiff. Was wondering if you think the foam you had in the board makes it a stiffer experience altogether. I was thinking a pom plate with no plate foam inside would actually be way bouncier than the qk65. Also was thinking that even if I did go plateless, the weird jelly like feeling could be mitigated with a piece of foam right under the flex cuts so it could be soft but not too jelly like

I like the overall vibe of the QK65 more. The only thing I don't like about the QK65 is the lack of a daughterboard. But I think this is great since the QK65 is so popular it's constantly sold out, and some people have to sit around waiting for the next round. They could've retained the Iris name by switching the second I to a Y, but I realized that might involve conflict as well.

Just wondering if you could do a follow up video on this board because I feel like there is so much more you can do with this board as opposed to the qk65. For instance, could you try plateless hotswap just to see how viable it could be for those who are absolutely adamant on not soldering, how does the board sound with different switches, and different foam configurations in both plate and plateless. Just spit balling because I’ve always wanted to get a plateless board so I just wish that there was more said and compared with the plate and plateless configs.

You can do plateless hot swap with switches that fit really tight.
