My goal was to build my one and only mechanical keyboard. Get in and get out, without investing too much money into the hobby. In this video I will talk about my thought process, show you what building a mechanical keyboard looks like, and impart some advice if you decide to go on this journey too.
After weeks of research, I decided the JRIS65 by MyKeyClub was the one for me. Does in succeed in becoming my endgame custom mechanical keyboard? Let's find out!

first time viewer here. i must mention that your production quality that rivals that of channels w/ millions of subscribers. i too have recently fallen into the mk rabbit hole, and i hopped onto the jris65 round 2 gb on the final day; mkc is now offering a bluetooth pcb, but it does not support iso enter (i chose the hotswap flex cut pcb). im gathering all of the things that i will need to put it together in the meanwhile. similarly to you, im hoping that this build turns out well enough to meet/surpass my expectations so i wont have to spend much more money. speaking of money, im not entirely sure how you managed to surpass 600 usd as my build is also going to have a pvd ss weight, osume keycaps, factory x hand lubricated switches and i have to order tools/lube.

Hey, really appreciate the kind words and I hope you're enjoying your first experience with the hobby. Was ISO important to you, or just something you were curious to try? I know that most of the world prefer ANSI but I had to have my layout like my UK MacBook, but then I'm quite particular about things. In terms of money, I didn't mention this in the video but we were struck with bad luck/sinister dealings when the group buy started in the UK. A high ranking UK politician (the one in charge of UK finance) did something so ridiculous that it made the £ go to an all time low against the $. So coupling the weak pound together with my specification, taxes and shipping, the board alone cost me £270.92. The £ didn't recover much when I had to order my keycaps either, and it was expensive to get that over to the UK too. Altogether it was a pretty ridiculous thing for me to do at the time but I had already committed to the idea 🤷

@@VidVayder wow i didn't think you'd actually reply! i'm NA so idrc abt iso, i just wanted to note that bc i noticed that it was important to you in the video. and wow i had no idea about the situation in the UK! i hope everything's alright now that it's been quite some time. i also forgot to mention that you earned a like+sub; keep doing what you do!

@@daze7675 Appreciate the like and sub, thank you! I do try to respond to every comment or at least read them all. I think if someone takes the time to watch something I've made and also make a comment, the least I can do is to respond to them. And yeah, the situation was dire and well... still kind of is. But the whole world is a bit crazy at the moment so I guess we just have to look on the bright side and count our blessings. Cheers!

@@VidVayder I saw your link as I was browsing on the mechanical boards on reddit, I really thought I was going to skim through and move on, especially since its a longer video, but found myself laughing out loud at some of the jokes, and generally found the whole thing well put together, both entertaining and interesting. I am sure it took some time making the video. As I said, stick at it and you will blast through the 1k subs and a lot more in no time.

Hey man. Just watched the video. It is entertaining and full of information at the same time. I enjoyed it. I got a question for you besides this video. I am planning to buy the airpods max for daily usage and sometimes for gaming, I can't efford and another gaming headset so I want to hit two birds with one rock. I've recentley saw your vid about airpods max and how to connect it to ps5. Are you still using airpods max for gaming especialy on ps5. Are you happy with it. Is it comfortable to wear it while gaming. How is the sound quality and does it have sorround sound (3d sound). What are the pros and cons. And overall would you recommend it. It would be so helpful if you reply. Thanks. Keep up the good work. Subbed!

Hey! Here are some answers: 1. I am still using the APM for gaming on PS5 yes. Also on Series X and Switch. 2. I am happy with it as a gaming headset yes. 3. It's comfortable to wear for gaming, and is the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned (I have owned many, and still own several. I have a Sennheiser for detailed audio work and also the PlayStation Pulse headset). All headphones hurt me after a while, but for the APM it takes longer, and goes away if I just take it off for a while to rest. It's even more comfortable when not using the noise cancellation mode, because the NC mode creates a sort of vacuum. Sometimes the feeling bothers me, sometimes it doesn't. I tend not to use NC too long anyway, but turning it on and off is easy. Just a press of the button. If you plan on gaming for 9 hours a day, make sure you turn off NC when taking a water/toilet break. Or take off the headphones to wash dishes or whatever. That will give time to rest your ears. 4. Sound quality is fantastic. It's very well balanced whilst being fun. What does that mean? It means that the bass is strong but not overpowering, it means that the highs and mids are clear and crisp. I can really tell the difference when I have to use the PS Pulse headset. That one isn't balanced well and the bass is too blurry, and if things get really loud it sounds crunchy. It does support 3D sound. Any headphones connected to your PS5 will support 3D sound because your PS5 is producing it, not the headphones. Having said that, I keep 3D sound off because I feel like the APM has a great natural sound stage and positioning. PROS: 1. Super high quality build 2. Sounds awesome. Best sounding headphones I own 3. Slim profile 4. They look freakin' cool. I don't take them out of the house but even looking at them on my head makes me feel good. CONS: 1. Hardware annoyances. If you need to connect it via 3.5mm cable, you HAVE to get the official Apple cable for £35/$35. As a gamer, this will only be an issue if you want to use it with Series X because Microsoft only allows certain accessories to be used! Switch can naturally accomodate Bluetooth headphones, and for PS5 I use the Skull & Co dongle that eliminates most of the audio lag. 2. Battery: This doesn't bother some people, but I've had times where I wanted to use it but because I forgot to charge it, I have to wait a while before putting them on. They should have come up with a clever way to charge them via the case. You can buy third party solutions, I haven't bothered to. Again this is all down to how your desk/home setup works. Maybe it won't be an inconvenience for you. 3. I've never had this following issue before, but I should tell you that if you sweat a lot you can have problems because it's not waterproof. Again, not something I've experienced. As a gaming headset for PS5, it's awesome but there are some things to consider: 1. I recommend using a low lag bluetooth dongle (check out Skull & co, and I think Creative make one too), however, if the dongle is plugged into my PS5 and the PS5 is in rest mode, it's still giving power to the dongle. That means when I want to use my APM on something else, I have to unplug the dongle from the PS5. That can be annoying at times. 2. You can't use the APM mic with PS5. You need to either stick a ModMic on it, or use a boom mic etc. This means it's great for single player gaming, but if you want to chat to friends, you need to spend additional money to set it up. I highly recommend using them as just a single player headset. If you play loads of multiplayer with friends, it's worth spending extra to add a microphone solution. If you only play occasional multiplayer, just buy a very cheap headset and use that as needed. Finally, I want to say thanks for the kind words and the sub, it really makes a difference and I appreciate it!

@@emira4205 No worries, I really hope you enjoy them as much as I do. I have one final tip though, make sure you buy it from a reputable seller. If possible, Amazon or directly from Apple would be best. These headphones cost a lot so if you happen to not enjoy them, make sure you have the option of returning them :) Glad to be of help!
