This is a bucket list thing for almost all audiophiles...a chance to hear a one million dollar speaker - Acapella Sphaerons - with state-of-the-art electronics almost just as much in cost.
I've featured the electronics in the prior videos as well as the smaller Acapella Triolons in Jim's other room. However, today we get to see the big boys and hear him speak about his goals and what he accomplished with this system and why.
I think any audiophile will find this interview and system intriguing and enjoyable to see and learn more.
Here are the details on the rest of his system:
Acapella Sphaeron Excalibur horn system. Run full range with the Berning SET amp.
Berning Hi-Fi One edition SET. 20wpc OTL with Ypsilon silver wired external chokes and EnKlein Silver umbilical’s in a 4-box reference amplifier
SMc/Hi-Fi One edition VRE-2 Silver Reference line stage
SMc/Hi-Fi One Nexus AC Power distribution and grounding enhancement system with Furutech V1 AC cable
EnKlein Hi-Fi One edition XerXes silver speaker, interconnect, AC, digital and grounding cables
Döhmann Helix One Mk 2 turntable
Two Schroeder 9” CB tonearms
Lyra (Lambda version) Atlas and Etna
Lyra Connoisseur 4-3 phono stage
emm labs transport, DA2 v2, and NS-1 streamer
Stillpoints Ultra 6. And bespoke Ultra 7’s isolation feet specifically made for the Acapella Spherion’s
Ayra RevOpod isolation feet
HRS racks and amp stands

I'd love to see the manufacturing process of those. It'd be cool if Acapella did a video tour of their manufacturing facility.

I've heard a reviewer speak of this man's system with a lot of passion for what it is able to accomplish. Those speakers look incredible and the David Berning mono blocks are equalling interesting with fascinating tech as well. thank you for sharing...

I had the pleasure of hearing what the orchestra conductor hears a few years ago and was flabbergasted. This was a 75 piece orchestra in a lovely acoustic space during a rehearsal and the conductor allowed me to stand a couple of inches behind him during a rendition of a classical warhorse. Having heard this same group from normal seats many times, this up-close experience was outrageously exciting and thrilling. I easily relate to what Jim is saying. Thanks Jason for allowing us to witness this awareness.

You'll see that addressed in future video and I made some comments in the video. It can actually work to your advantage in many respects depending on music and listening position. It's not always as simple as it looks.

You did what good/great interviewers do - let him speak and go where the conversation tales you. Really enjoyed it. I get that the owner isn'a a fan of records, but I thought I saw a turntable on his rack. Will you be posting another focusing on the gear?
@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie 2 жыл бұрын
Yes he has tons of records as you can see in the prior video of his second system. He enjoys records now that he has exceptional playback of them, but is honest about the limitations and trade-offs. That's the type of honesty you see in sophisticated audiophiles that aren't about dogmas and fragile egos.

I like listening to this elegant gentleman. I am now inspired to listen to Beethoven. Don't understand the Hidden TV turned on in the background. The system certainly deserves a grande room and he's certainly got that. Hope you have some time to spend by his pool. This is a great video and quite a tease for what is to come.

Hello, I am not a rich guy that can effort a lot. Currently i own a B&W 802 speakerset. I am happy with them but when listening to Jazz sometimes i do find them a bit dark in sound. Not "open" enough. Now i am able to purchase a Heco Metron 1000 speakerset. They are very big with a massive woofer. Do you maybe have experience with this Heco speakerset ? And if so could you comment on the soundquality ? I do not have the possibility to hear them. And i needs to be a surprise buy so to say. But i only will do it if it is a really good upgrade from my B&W speakers. On a Dutch audio channel i heard some other Heco speakers. And to me they sounded more "open". Sadly could not find any review. Thanks in advange.👍

I love his story about how he came to love classical music. I love it too. It’s very relaxing. Btw please ignore haters. Some,of them have nothing better to do than come on YT and make bad comments about things some of them never even seen or heard in person. It’s a lot of jealousy too. I’ve been meaning to ask but keep forgetting. What brand are those black and white speakers that’s always next to you ?

I'm not terribly into classical (though I definitely enjoy it over Jazz anyday!) But I remember that piece of 1812 overture playing during "V for Vendetta's" blowing up of the old bailey. Can only imagine how glorious it would sound on this system. Well done!

Poor guy! I’ve had tinnitus since 1996 when I lost the hearing in my left ear for 24 hours and then the right ear (20 years after I worked at a cabinet shop without hearing protection with two very large table saws, the blades constantly turned on and all the other equipment in the shop! My tinnitus was result of that 18 to 20 years later!), it came back with this oscillating high frequency noise around 8K which gets louder and louder if you’re in a live room with concrete floors or tile floors, it reverberates! if there’s 5-10 people 0r more talking in that room all the same time you basically have to run out of the room, it’s it drives anybody cuckoo!

It seems to me that this listening room has a ridiculous amount of reverberation.,how can you put a super expensive speakers in such a room?? Furthermore, as an avid concert goer, how can be your goal to hear a symphony orchestra from the perspective of the conductor? That’s certainly not the best listening position.

I briefly addressed that in the video, but will talk more about it in next video with music clips. You can mitigate or use it to your advantage depending on how close and on-axis your listen.
@TheDanEdwards
@TheDanEdwards 2 жыл бұрын
It is a live room. But it is also a very large room. If one sits close to the transducers, the reflections from the walls will be less impactful. If the difference between the path lengths 1) from transducer to ear, and 2) from speaker to first reflection to ear, is more than about 15ms then the liveness of the room should not cause the reflections to obscure the music. However, the live room will limit the dynamic range that one can enjoy as the minimum sound pressure level will never be really, really low. I prefer a quieter room but that is just me. I'm not one for near-field listening.
@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie 2 жыл бұрын
Excellent synopsis...I think stereophile even touched on this in the latest issue. Your listening position can have a big impact on what is heard from the room.

OMG he needs some room treatment...I would think because of the cost of that system he should have the room professionally analyzed and treated. I gotta believe there would be a huge improvement, even if he is listening more nearfield...Wouldn't that be a worthwhile tweak?
