I've stayed in a yurt, so I was wondering how they'd handle the round space--the square room in the middle is genius. Solves 3 problems--loft, bathroom and how to create some sort of rooms esp the kitchen. Also beautifully designed. They have a fine sense of design/color.

This is called "ger" in Mongolia. Mongolians have used this one for hundred and hundred years, maybe thousand years. And still using. Some nomadic people in our country built it in the beach of lake and while eating food see the lake by their door hehe. Round exterior is the only real common denominator for yurts in my eyes. Interiors can be as lavish or lowbrow as any other home of any construction type. I had a friend growing up who lived in one of those geodesic dome/underground homes so round never made me uncomfortable. For a long time (and I’ve got the folders full of designs to prove it lol) my ideal home was round and made of rammed earth. But I didn’t necessarily want the hippy dippy plaster interior with no separation etc etc.

Such a great idea! They said theirs was only 66k. $31,000 for the yurt, $10,000 for the base platform, $25,000 for their inside (which is ultra deluxe) and they used family for help while building (some people might not have that luxury). To pay for this yurt (not the land) at $66,000 ... if you rented it out on Airbnb for even just $100 per night you would pay for it in 660 nights. So even if you as the owner stayed in it from time to time let’s say 35 nights a year. Then based on the math, if it didn’t sit empty at all, it would be paid off in 2 years. Well you would have to take into account Airbnb fees and taxes etc. but still. In 3-5 years depending on the location it would be a solid investment. 👍
@ATLbench
@ATLbench 4 жыл бұрын
That well water thing is no bueno in the shower and I forgot to factor in utilities. They probably had some other hidden connection costs he might not have mentioned. So it would take longer to pay off. you would need to market the crap out of it and make sure it was never empty for a few years. Or charge $200 a night 🤔

For me this is incredibly spacious and open in comparison to how small it deceptively looks from the outside. I would like more natural light coming in but that's just personal preference. It's certainly not a criticism. I would still happily live here. The architectural planning, design and build really does demonstrate a very high degree of skill(s). I would not even attempt this kind of build myself. And I have no reservations with hiring people as passionate, talented and honest as this couple are to bring my own home to life. I do appreciate just how much integrity and love has gone in to this project. Really well done 10/10

@@diatomsaus Not if you eat farmed salmon or fish. Plus you know how organic the fish farm is. No shortage of these here in Switzerland. If one eats meat then you know it comes from the Alp, same as cheese. It is only ever wrapped in Bio paper. Vegetables and fruit can also be bought and never wrapped in plastic. This is how I eat and shop. So for sure I know exactly where my food comes from - all Bio and nowhere near any plastic. So for sure I am not recycling any plastic in my food. Do not buy packaged things either No problem here in CH, if you know where to go for good plastic free food. Have a good day eating and digesting plastic.

@@hfs5882 I don't have that much time or effort to source the best produce, I just buy whatever I can afford. I really don't care too much about eating plastic, it won't kill me anyway. Put these stuff under a microscope and you'll be disgusted. No matter the source, there's micro fibres and other weird things, which all of us eat. I personally reuse plastic containers and stuff like bubble wrap, cost effective and good for the planet, that's about it really.

@Templar Depends on what its for. Here, there is no important, healthy or even rational need. I'm getting old - and learning that fighting almost always begets a stunted inner person. I know that sounds artsy fartsy, particularly when you know that I come from a background of pure fighting. From childhood, to school, and beyond. When you've done enough of it you learn to say, hey, there's got to be a better way and that opens up new doors previously unimagined. At the same time, I completely believe in the necessity for self defence (in all its forms).
