You just reminded me of two. The reason why prescription bottles and vitamin bottles are different colors is so light cannot damage the contents inside. The reason why United States currency / bills have certain artwork and a strip on the inside is a way to tell if it's counterfeit or not.

Even if he may have been joking, a concerning amount of people actually think that's their intended purpose. But someone visually impaired to that degree likely isn't safe driving and shouldn't be. I reply to this comment because the comment I was thinking about leaving was actually that I like these kinds of videos because, even though I would consider myself as knowing a fair amount of random facts and knowledge, I always learn something new from these videos. And this is how you learn new things! And mostly, many of the fun facts and tips are actually helpful for many people in common situations. The tips aren't complicated and they're easy to remember but just not always widely known, but getting to my point, while watching this one, I was surprised to see rumble strips as #2. Overall, I'm glad the tip is still included as anyone who doesn't know what they're for really should, so we should still share the purpose of rumble strips widely and often, but it is surprising to me how many people aren't aware of their purpose sometimes even after many years of driving. I kind of consider it common knowledge and fairly easy to figure out, so not bashing anyone, but for everyone's safety, especially in the age of smartphones, rumble strips are hugely important for safety and everyone should be aware of their presence and purpose. Final thought is boomers have a slightly larger excuse as it wasn't until the 1950s that it became commonplace for most households to own a car and for the interstate system to be really built out, but still, a frightening amount of people never learned or passed on misinformation regarding the purpose of rumble strips that has lowered but still lasted into modern culture, even with more educated people.

Lol! My dad said the same thing. As a small child, I thought about it for a moment and replied "I don't think they're allowed to drive, dad. If their eyes are worse than mom's they should stay off the dang road!", for which I was nearly backhanded. This is the same man who tried to convince me the world was black and white until the late 40's, and then it slowly started turning colour, but not everything got it at once. We watched the original Wizard of Oz and he said the reason it went from B&W to colour at that one point was because that's when colour started filling in the studio, but only some movie cameras and some photos could catch it. TVs couldn't replicate it because it was invented by a guy who was still B&W, but eventually people who had began changing to colour started making them years later and that's why we now have colour TV. He had a HUGE speech ready for the whole thing, but I called his bullshit and it made him mad. He then showed me how he could spread color by spanking me. Class act, that guy. There was a blind man who learned to drive with the aid of a car with AI and he had to have a licensed passenger with him, but somehow he did fine. I think it was in the UK, so everyone else can breathe a sigh of relief.

Small backpacks were originated in the European Alps. The patch with the slots was designed to have a small, short leather belt threaded through. At the bottom of the backpack, there was and still is a nylon web loop, These were both used to be able to carry an ice ax during the hiking portion of the climbing trip. The head of the ax was threaded through the loop and the shaft was pointed up. The small leather belt was used to strap the ax to the backpack. This left the hiker's hands free and the ax was only used on snow and ice.

Those amber colored reflectors in the highway surface, called "Bots dots"' after the guy who invented them, are there to help keep lanes separate at night. But, if yours are reflecting red, instead of amber, get off the road because you are traveling in the wrong direction. The red color is on the back side.

The watch dial is not used by divers to tell when their “oxygen will run out”. First, almost all diving is done with compressed air, not oxygen. Compressed oxygen would poison and kill a diver. Second, it is not used to tell when their air will run out either. Their is an air gauge on each tank that tells how full it is (by how much pressure remains in the tank). So what DO divers use the dial for? Depending on how deep you dive time is limited by decompression tables. This is to prevent “the bends” which can be lethal. Decompression tables tell you how long you can stay down and safely return to the surface to minimize the risk of the bends. So yes, you can set the bezel by when you went down and just remember how much later you must go up, or you can set the bezel to when you must start back up.

The winglets are actually to bring the vortices away from the main wing to increase lift. It’s the vortices that create the drag and reduce the efficiency of the wing.

Isn't it called ailerons? An aileron is a hinged flight control surface usually forming part of the trailing edge of each wing of a fixed-wing aircraft. Ailerons are used in pairs to control the aircraft in roll, which normally results in a change in flight path due to the tilting of the lift vector

The rotating bezel on a dive watch isn't to let a diver know when his air (not oxygen) is going to run out,that's what his SPG (submersible pressure gauge) is for. Keeping track of dive time monitors the nitrogen buildup in the divers blood from breathing pressurized air.. Keeping track of this helps the divers from getting the 'bends'.

NOTE: The lash tab on the backpack is not used as described - it is used to secure the shaft of an ice axe. First, the shaft of the ice axe is put down through the webbing loop at the bottom of the backpack, directly below the lash tab. The T shape of the metal adze and pick of the ice axe rests on top of the webbing loop and the shaft of the axe is pointing down. The shaft is then rotated up, resting against the lash tab, which usually has a buckled webbing strap through the two slots. The buckled strap then secures the shaft in place, allowing the hiker/climber to carry the ice axe safely and securely.

9:57 they're not bumps, they're dips. They're made one of two ways. Either grinded in or by a smooth drum roller with the pattern on the drum (new asphalt only).
@mikel9567
@mikel9567 3 жыл бұрын
I work on a road dept for the county. No the rumble strips are not made by a smooth drum roller. The smooth drum roller is used to compact the surface (called the mat). Proper compaction is important as it seals the mat and prevents water and ice intrusion while providing a smooth ride. Rumble strips are never made in hot asphalt, they are always done after the asphalt has cured. The dip ones are made by using a special grinder machine, which is usually a walk behind model, though ride on ones do exist. There are also raised rumble stips. These are made out of a plastic and are applied by hand using butyl rubber for an adhesive. Most highways in the US use the raised version as they are easier to replace and won't trap debris from crashes. The ground in ones are most common on county and rural roads, but you can find either type.

Similar to beer bottles: Wine glasses are shaped that way for a reason. You're supposed to hold the stem of the glass or the base, not the bowl. It prevents the wine from being heated up by your hand. I find it incredible how many people don't realize this.

8:24--Static discharge wires on airplanes do NOT prevent lightning strikes; they provide an safe path for lightning to exit the airframe. 9:59 Pavement rumble strips are death to bike riders, You can't ride on them and if you do, you'll fall over, probably into traffic. Avoiding them puts you in a narrower path closer to the edge--always littered with rocks and broken glass. A REALLY bad idea. Roads are for everyone, not just cars.

As for the rumble strips on the highway. Did you know they are also good for traction in snow and icy weather conditions. As a professional truck driver. I have used them many times to get out of a dicey situation and drive on them to get better traction. In deep snow all you have to do is find it by simply diving over to the side. Soon as you fell the rumble stay on it and it will get you out.
