One of the big wins of Matter was supposed to be getting rid of our hubs. Look at all these vendors taking the lazy route and only bringing forward matter hubs.

This comment right here. We want one app and one hub/border router.

@@charlesxavier1904 I’m even ok with multiple platforms. Like my matter devices are natively exposed to both Apple Home and Home Assistant. There are (very few) things that Apple Home does better, but most of my automations are on Home Assistant. I like not needing an app to provision a zwave or Zigbee device, and I appreciate when I can have the same experience with matter.

I honestly wish there’d been more. Some unfulfilled matter over thread dreams around garage door management, smoke detectors, recessed door/window sensors. I was really hoping Govee, Nanoleaf, and Aqara would have made a bigger commitment. Thirdreality is stepping up nicely. I’ve got some of their Zigbee variant of the night lights so seeing them getting into Matter is good. Just wish they were doing more Matter over Thread instead of cluttering up WiFi more.

Good callout on potential of Ultra Wideband. It would be cool to revisit this idea, openly imagining what could be done in the hopes that manifesting that idea verbally will get a manufacturer on top of it.

Did you feel there were any “killer app” or products this year? Like, when you left the show was there something that really stood out as innovative?

Great work Shane! - I feel a little underwhelmed about CES as I had expected more from the show. Hopefully WWDC will give Apple Home a kick along as its high time video escalated above simple 1080p. As for Matter, it's about time it fully supported (unless I've missed it?) refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers smoke alarms, air quality sensors, air purifiers and room air conditioners as we still aren't able to fully connect to everything at home.

Hi Shane, I apologize in advance for asking a question on this link, but I purchased the Aqara video doorbell, mostly based on your reviews, but there is one thing that I hate that may be enough to cause me to return it, and that is the "private masking zone", where I blocked off areas that have a lot of sidewalk traffic to try to avoid a lot of false notifications, BUT it blacks out the area, which I don't like. Maybe I'm using the "private masking zone" incorrectly, but on my Ring doorbell, which the Aqara replaced, I could easily map out the area that I wanted to map for notifications, but the entire area was visible, not blacked out. Again, sorry for asking my question on this posting.

From my understanding, the soil sensor will simply show up as a temp/humidity sensor in homekit. So with that, you could create automations for when the humidity (moisture in the soil) gets too low.
