This bushcraft / survival woodland saw cuts through anything from small branches to whole trees! I've been using these at my bushcraft camp for several years but never actually managed to get my hands on one like this! The saws are made by Silky, check out the link below.

I always wanted to do the sort of things you and Mike demonstrate. I never had the time or extra money when I was raising 4 children. Now retired, I have both the time and money, but arthritis has taken the ability away. Happiness is watching you!

I’ve a 650. Here are some random thoughts. From observing you with the 1000 it seems that blade is longer than the human reach. You need to also use legs and rock your body into the process. I think the ergonomic geometry of the 650 is better suited for my tasks. It lives behind the back seat in my truck to process emergency blowdown but I also buck campfire wood. The 1000 would also require more storage than I’d like to dedicate. Great job on the video…

It was seeing the speed and efficiency of a large Silky Saw that made me appreciate the benefits of the larger version. For my usage the Silky Fox Bigboy Outback Saw was perfect, and upon first appraisal I ordered the Silky Gomboy Outback Saw to include in an emergency pack. The capabilities of the Bigboy Outback make having it essential. Thank you for sharing. I'm already an owner of a Silky saw. OK they're definitely not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for IMHO. The quality and function are very good. Many thanks again - awesome video as always.

Love the Bigboy! Fits comfortably into my backpack (Pocketboy in a sidepocket) and makes harvesting burls a walk in ithe park (not that I harvest burls in a park, though I saw some nice ones in them 😃)

Silky saws are amazing. While a Gomboy can be had for maybe $40 USD or less, those big monsters cost hundreds. But wow!

Nice little workout for you there! Thinking I should probably invest in one of those. These older saws I picked up are horrible. We have more Pine and Oak where I live. Do you think the Bigboy 2000 360-6.5 would be more of a manageable saw for a woman to use for building or something smaller? We have hurricanes all the time here, so having one that can cut through a bigger Oak like you did would be great to have, but thinking it might be too much for me to handle.

Hello! Yes, the BB2K is an ideal saw for everybody. it's lightweight and folds up nicely. you can use with 2 hands.

Great video as always Dustin. Would love to see a straight up comparison of all of the blades on same thickness and wood type. That 1000 is a beast never grow tired of seeing that bad boy. The oak never stood a chance l.

Wish you had a timer running for each cut and could show the diameter of each board so we can get an idea of the efficiency of each saw. Great video though!

I see the local gardeners using these. Pretty sweet watching an elderly Japanese guy that's about 63 inches tall, hack down a big tree in a few minutes.

Those saws certainly bite in. I wonder if some of that oak will find it's way to your workshop for some bowls? Livestream of course was awesome. 👍 An oak slab/slice coffee table would be wonderful and maybe a pad Thai cookup. 😊

for experimental reasons, cut the first log with all saws as time and effort needed more evident. then go on to bigger demos. thanks

It would be neat to see you build a clay or stone fireplace that vents outside for the roundhouse. That would be cozy. Oh and a door. Lol!

I gave up trying to cut oak with the big boy big teeth but when I swapped the blade for the spare small teeth it was loads better......still work though

I have bigboy 360 which fits (barely) in my USWE hydration pack... clearing hiking and mtb trails in my area (coast range in the PNW) . We can get a lot of downed trees. HOWEVER for the larger trees I bring a 30" bow saw. Thin kerf means a lot less effort, thus faster only because my arms last longer : ) The silky will cut as fast if not faster but obviously only initially until you need to rest the arms . Make sure you get a very stiff bow saw so you can put some high tension into blade. ALSO sharpen the teeth with a diamond hone. (yes even the new blades need touch up, believe me it's worth it though...). I alway have the big boy with me also. its nice to have both.. just in case and to change things up or widen a kerk or bottom cut etc..

On the oak cut, it might have been easier to do the underside cut first!?

I think the saw blade would've then been in even greater danger of becoming pinched when he did eventually get started with the upper cut.

Man those are some pretty awesome large saws . You could chop down a cherry tree with those at least one of them. I see you alot with mike on ta outdoors. I love both shows. This isn't an idea for the round house, but it could be a fun contraption to build. Perhaps a bit complex, but... Benjamin Franklin invented a device which was essentially a rotisserie spit, but it had a fan attached, so as the wind blew, it automatically rotated the roast (or whatever) was on the spit over the fire. Not medieval, I know. But a fun, challenging project perhaps? Taking bushcraft to its extreme limits?

I bet you can guess a possible answer: "Watch the right KZfaq Channels"; then practice skills systematically, with the intent to learn, whenever you can...at home or in the bush. Check out 'Corporals Corner', where a former Recon US Marine takes viewers through plenty of skills in a teaching format; applies them in the woods and recaps how things went. 'ReallyBigMonkey 1' with David Pearson shows how choices are made on gear selection for various purposes. His inventive nature shows a lot of problem solving, with some informative and entertaining results. 'Simon, Bloke in the Woods' is strong on selecting just the right equipment for hiking and paddling adventures. 'Kent Survival' may surprise you with what can be cooked in the bush--not just MREs or freeze-dried food.

I always appreciate anyone who can handle a large knot OwU But in all seriousness, I see where Bloodborne got the design for their cleaver weapons, and honestly you could probably straight-up make the katanaboy line into bloodborne style weapons just by sharpening their spines.

I'm looking to 'survive by bushcraft' not start a logging business. So my comments are based on that premise. I carry a pocketboy 130 and a gomboy 240 outback. I cant see why someone not in commercial business would saddle themselves with one of those monstrosities.

THANKS for a thorough look at the Silky line of folding saws. Historically, I suppose a Saxon hall would have benches for both sitting and sleeping purposes. I would rather see you build chairs with backs and arms for comfort; maybe a trestle table for food prep and eating (and sleeping on or under.) There could be a lidded chest for storage.
