Three Piece cookset
Funny : I have never heard of this cookset and one day a few months back I stumbled upon it and said to myself, “that looks to be a great deal” so I ordered on and posted a picture to social media and to my surprise, everyone has heard of these. Haha Apparently this has been around since 2012ish and are very well known and respected.
· Vented lid lets you cook on camp stoves or grills
· Locking handle extends for cooking, folds to save space
· 18/8 stainless steel won't rust; naturally BPA-free
· Two Nesting 10oz/295mL insulated plastic ceramic cups included
I’ve been told that the small plastic tab on the lid melts but I haven’t had that experience so far with all of my cooking and boiling which includes canister stove use as well as in fires. I’ve also used this with Trangia Alcohol stoves with not problems.
Is it a legitimate concern and will it melt under reasonable use conditions?
There is a debate about this; some say the tab will melt while others say that after years of use, it’s not an issue. No, as long as you are mindful you can use this in a fire, on a fire or on a stove without the grab tab melting.
It completely depends on how you use it; Set it on top of a fire, no problem. If you don’t mind a slower boil times, you can set the pot next to a blazing fire and that is likely where the tab is to melt.
Tab Replacement : You could replace the tab with all sorts of attachments; one would be a Split Key Chain Ring - This is a common solution but it’s one that I person don’t like - The problem with that is that it would lay completely flat on the lid which would be a pain to grab and to remove the lid.
For me, a simple piece of wire would work better and could be easily bent at an angle so you can grab it when it is over your heat source. Ultimately do what you like; for me, I will be mindful of the grab tab and prevent it from melting.
Pros :
Awesome value - this really goes to show you that quality gear at a good price is out there.
Does a good job of insulating; keeping coffee hot. I haven’t tested anything cold in this yet since it is the winter.
Locking handle.
Good quality grab tab; doesn’t fall over
Fairly compact system; doesn’t take up much space in your pack
Easy to clean; if you wish to remove builtup tarnish, use a product called bar keepers friend and it will come right off.
Marked measurements on the pot
Strong handle which locks and does a great job of holding the lid into place.
Even with the cups inside of the pot, there is enough space for a small canister stove and washcloth.
Cons :
The narrow base means that you need to be careful if you are using it on a stove; stability can be an issue.
Speaking of it being narrow, there may be some stoves out on the market which this will not sit on.
Grab tab could melt in some situations - a metal tab would have been a better design decision but with a little care, you won’t have any problems.
Small pot which means that if you plan to cook in it, you will have to get creative with what it is that you are making.
Summary :
Plain and simple this is a great bit of kit and I highly recommend it as long as you don’t care about weight. If you do, go with Titanium or aluminum otherwise, you really can’t go wrong here. The value is excellent and there are no big glaring issues.
Talking about price, if his kit was made by other popular companies, they would charge 3 times as much…you know that they would I commend Stanley for offering such a kit at such a good price. Imagine what Snowpeak or MSR would charge for this…
Very good general purpose set which can be used for backpacking, car camping, emergency kit for your vehicle and even survival.
Question to ask yourself; does the size and capability of this system work for you? This isn’t a huge pot by any means so do keep that in mind.

Here is my take on this stove. I consider myself an experienced hiker/camper/backpacker. I got this stove about 6 years ago now. It is not the lightest or most hip stove out there. I own multitude of lightweight stoves from other companies like MSR, SNOWPEAK and so on. This is by far my favorite stove. It is rock solid, and I take it on all of my camping trips. I use it mostly to boil water for coffee, meals, or even after dinner to boil water for cleaning. In my opinion the best thing about this stove is that I can put it directly on the fire and not waste gas canisters. It gets a little dirty but that's why I like it. I can beat it up and it never fails me, and that green plastic tab never came off or melted. I highly recommend this set. I even got this set as gifts for others. Great product. I have a lot of great camping memories with this stove.

If you replace the tab with a ring, before putting it over the fire you can make the ring stand up by sliding the ring into a locking position on the loop.

If you want one of these today, they sell at Walmart for the same price. I bought two last year so I could have a spare. Since I camp solo I removed one of the plastic nesting cups and can store more stuff inside. As a bonus, at Walmart they also have an Ozark Trail 18oz metal cup for about $5.00 that the Stanley fits perfectly inside so you can have a larger coffee in the AM. ;) I love this set and it goes with me every time.

yup, that walmart combo is the way to go. toss the green cups and you can fit a small fuel cannister, stove and utensils in the stanley, then nest the stanley in the shorter cup. the green cups are most of the weight, if you get rid of those you can certainly call this setup ultralight.

The Stanley Adventure Cup will go to a young bushcraft novice, once the corona craze has ebbed, and we can go hike in groups again. It is the perfect inexpensive but reliable beginner cook system.

This is awesome. I ditched the two cups in favor of one metal cup that the cooker nests in. This is my favorite kit and I found it at Walmart maybe five to six years ago for $14.99. I replaced the green tab on the lid with a metal key ring and the two cups with the stainless steel cup, also at Walmart, for $4.99. The cup nests neatly on the bottom of the Stanley pot. Inside the pot I store an alcohol stove, a Bic, and a couple Trioxane tabs just in case I run out of alcohol or HEET. If you want to keep the lid intact, there's a lid by DZO that has a metal triangular tab that will remain upright and there are strainer holes in the lid. The DZO lid also locks on tighter than the original Stanley lid. I've had the Stanley pot topple over in a campfire once spilling the contents, soup I believe. I've purchase other cooking kits but the Stanley is my go-to for overnighters.

The best kit for the money by far. The GSI cup ($5) fits around it and the lid fits both perfectly. The small gas canisters fit inside with a small stove or a Trangia style alcohol stove fits inside. I made a light windscreen from aluminum flashing that fits in the nesting cup around the Stanley set and has holes for a couple small pegs to hold the cookset above the alcohol stove. Boils 16oz of water with less than 1 oz of Heet fuel in 5 minutes. Hard to beat.

This is a great solo set up. Recommendations: put a small carabiner (#2 Nite Eye) in place of plastic tab on lid, cut an old wetsuit or use a coosh on the bottom of the 28 oz container, get a 750ML shorter cup to seat the container in, put a scrubby in bottom of 750ml, use small stove ( I use the BRS hornet) lighter (Bic, with waxed twine wrapped and covered in strips of gorilla tape) and put 11 oz fuel canister upside down in it, use just one of the cups. One of the best setups out there, and very affordable!

@abdullaex4119
@abdullaex4119 4 жыл бұрын
Some comments you might appreciate Luke. The split ring is an excellent improvement. If installed properly. Install the ring normally but stop half way before it completely is installed. This offers tension to stay in an "UP" or "DOWN" position. Another mod you might consider that has worked for me. Drill two small (1/8+-) holes just below the lip of the cup. One hole located near the center of the handle and the other 180 degrees to the other side, just below the lip. Purchase 2- 12" (+-) stainless swivel/snap type leaders from your favorite fishing supplier. Nylon coated if you prefer. The small holes should be drilled in line with the handle. If not, the handle could unbalance the contents in your cup. Grind 1/8" +-, off the tip on one side of the handle. This will aid in removing the handle for storage and will not compromise the operation of the cup handle lock. De burr and the handle slips in and out with no problems. Also the stainless cup (that should be near the Stanley cook set at Wally World) fits nicely over the bottom of the cook set. It appears yall like the green cups so I'll not comment on those. Without the green cups, you can jam tons of stuff in the cook set. Foil (for wind screen, cooking, etc), seasoning, small 110g fuel canister, gas stove, couple WYSI towels, refrigerator :-), etc. Thanks Luke. Stay healthy

@Timothy Mckee - I just used a split-ring for a key chain. If you slide the split-ring just a bit, as if you are starting to take it off, it stands up and doesn't fall over. Slide it back off, so the "split" isn't holding on and it falls flat for packing. Honestly, if I wasn't using the cooker on open fires and it was relegated to stove use only, I wouldn't have bothered. The plastic tab works fine for stove use.

I've been using this kit for the past couple of years. It lends itself to customization. I've replaced the plastic top tab with a keyring, and I leave one cup out so I can stuff the pot with a couple of food packets, condiments and utensils.

I've had this for 7 years. It's great. Ditch the cups, store your cook system inside, nest with a GSI cup...and boom...best budget cook pot available. I've since switched to Toaks titanium, but the Stanley will always be in my emergency kit and it's the perfect starter for anyone new to cooking outdoors. Oh, and right now, it's $10 on Amazon.

Drilled out a couple holes near the lip so I could hang it over a fire. Also trangia spirit burned fits inside, if you get rid of the plastic cups. The Ozark Trail $5 steel cup(18oz)nests on the outside of the bottom of the pot. Replaced the plastic tab with two chained key rings (two different sizes) so regardless how it lays you can get a stick under it. Nalgene makes a tapered steel single wall bottle (called the backpacker) that will fit in the pot. You can put the lid under the pot in the carrier of your choice. Also with the backpacker bottle another OT $5 18 OZ cup will nest as a lid, but the handle has to come off for storage... Helps to make removal easier if you clip off about 1/8 inch off the handle insert tips. These are great as gifts for kids or other folks interested starting camping or Bushcraft etc

I’ve had mine for about 5 years with no issues other than breaking the plastic tab at the top. I replaced it with a soda can tab. Keep an eye out for stores putting these on clearance. Target had these on clearance for $7.49 so I bought all they had and put them in bug out bags, short trip packs, and in our emergency box.

Damb you luke for being so trustworthy on your reviews lol. I've been on the fence and kept from purchasing this pot set for like 3 years though kept putting aside. Your review made me pull the trigger. The reason for putting this purchase off for so long is because of the price here in Canada $29.99 +tax on amazon.ca and other reviews iv seen seemed to be a lot of paid off reviews. another reason to make the purchase is a name like Luke the guy has to be giving an honest review. Thanks you and Suzy for the great content and hope you guys are getting some range time. Hope you guys stay safe and god bless. From New Brunswick Canada.

I used one for years, and gave it to a young friend who needed something like it. I will be replacing it in a couple days. It you leave out the cups, you can stick a 28oz peanut butter jar in there. The pot, cover, a GSI-type cup, and most of a survival kit in the jar, in a pounch with a quart bottle and a couple of contractor bags. My mods are the split ring for the lid, and hose clamp for mounting a bail to.

Good review. I saw one of these several years ago in Walmart (2012?) and bought it for just under the current price ($12 I believe). I’ve used it many times since. Outside of discoloration from wood fires it still looks the same as it did in the store. While some have said the tab on the lid has melted that’s not been my experience but if I’m ever careless enough to have that happen I’ve already made a stainless replacement tab that I’ve taped to the bottom of one of the cups and it should work about as well (1/8” stainless TIG wire is good for the tab). I would like to suggest if 10 oz. cups are an issue, that in the same aisle I also found 16 oz. stainless cups ($3 then I believe) that nested pretty well with the container and the container lid fits them well and can act a smaller companion pot if wanted. As an aside, I’m glad to see you’re still using your chest rig but every time I see yours I’m reminded the one I ordered hasn’t arrived lol.

The green cup is a TOTAL of 10oz to the brim. The mark on the inside of the cup is actually 8oz = equaling exactly "1 cup". I use mine for coffee every backpacking trip and I also use it to measure water for my dehydrated meals. I bought this set about 5 years ago and love it. I did the split keyring mod and you can overcome the ring falling over by feeding some of the ring over the notch to keep the ring upright. I've used this in many Scouting adventures and showcase this set in my Camping, Wilderness Survival, and Backpacking Merit Badge courses for Scouts. BTW, another mod, the filter press portion of my old Bodum French Press (where the glass carafe broke years ago) fits nicely into the pot to make French Press Coffee (SCORE!). Like I tell other adults I've camped with on backpacking and other Scout outings, just because we live with the animals on an outing does NOT mean we must drink coffee like the animals. I also carry a BRS2000 isobutane stove, folding titanium spork, small bottle of camp suds, and a small piece of scouring pad inside the pot to make it a fully self-contained cook kit. The pot itself sorry nicely in my stainless cup (just a few feet down the shelf from this jewel of a cook kit at Walmart). Thanks for sharing all of your reviews and adventures!

This brought a smile to my face ....i bought one of these from the surplus store near the sas camp....in the uk Stanley is generally known as a tool company....i was intrigued when i bought this....as you say the mugs are very solid...yet i dont use them as i find them too heavy....also i realized a small gas can fits upside down in the pot+ a really handy thing is the pot will slide into a UK webbing pouch ...a little tight ...yet fits all the same so if you ever wear webbing on walks, its really handy....like you say though the bottom is narrow with curved edges so you must choose your burner stand well....its always handy to carry a mini grill top...i have a honeystove so use the grill from that sometimes....dont use my honey stove much though as i got pissed off with slotting it together...so use hinged alternatives...keep up your good work....i just noticed you have the exact same spoon as me too lol....the highlander light weight spoon...best spoon ive had.
