That’s actually more what a histrionic personality does…they create elaborate explanations to exonerate themselves from accountability, meanwhile, a narcissistic type is more likely to do what they want, when they want with little regard given to explaining their behavior. That said, someone can BE histrionic while behaving narcissistically. Narcissistic behavior broadly defined as we know means selfish and has a less specific meaning than histrionic which can also be used to vaguely describe someone prone to dramatics. In this instance though we really should correctly identify her pathology. She is NOT a clinically diagnosed narcissist. She’s narcissistic but clinically speaking, there’s a significant difference between histrionics and narcissists. They are motivated by different things, they experience different triggers and behaviorally present across a broad spectrum. Personality disorders are all extremely destructive, some more to the individual suffering from the disorder (think borderline) others are more destructive to those unfortunate enough to cross paths…Amber is part of a group of people I casually refer to as “THE RUINERS”. We all need to develop skills to identify and vocabulary to properly label these people so they cannot continue to wreak havoc in our lives.
