Kevin was having some issues with the COBB OTS tunes so he decided to go for an Etune from AMBOTTuning. This video covers the process and results of the etune, but more importantly, discusses the major differences between an OTS tune, an Etune, and a Protune. Each has its perks... which one is best for you?

@21:20 @ I'd like to add one comment here... When someone etune's your car, if you haven't been maintaining your car properly or if you start the etune process with bad plugs, a bad MAF sensor, poorly installed parts, or something like that, the tuner is going to compensate for those things in the tune: they can't see those things necessarily. That's another reason why some people opt for a protune, where most of the time, the protuner will fully inspect your entire motor and parts before even starting the dyno tuning.

I've probably watched this specific video three times, because it's just so informative. You guys are really great at explaining what exactly all of these products and services R4 and what they do. If anybody is trying to just sift out all of the confusion of trying to make sense of what exactly is applicable to our vehicles, all they need to do is watch this video because this video for me put a lot of things in perspective, I mean I knew a lot about the e-tunes already, but after listening to his explanation oh, it was great oh, well done

Once I pay off the car, which should align with my warranty running out, I’m going to do two things to the car. First I’m going to buy the stage 1 package from MAPerformance which has an OTS tune included when buying the AP from them. Then I will save up for the rest of the bolt ons and turbo back exhaust and then get her on the dyno and make some real numbers.

Don't forget about altitude and gas. Some body living in Louisiana would get different numbers from somebody living in Denver. Also, the difference between e85 and 91 or 93 octane would need drastically different tunes.

For each stage of mods, what is the longest time you'd wait before getting tuned especially if your car is a daily? Not sure how long the car can handle the mods safely before being optimized by a tune
@xManstah
@xManstah 3 жыл бұрын
Also in this video where there any mods in particular you were tuning for?
@Mr.Wongburger
@Mr.Wongburger 2 жыл бұрын
Each stage of mods there is an accompanied stage tune off the shelf. The key is making sure you are installing the proper off the shelf tune based on your installed mods. If you are using mods not recommended for the tune you will run into problems with your tune. If you are using the parts recommended for the tune you are running, there shouldn't be a problem. The ots tune from companies like cobb are made by professional tuners using their specific parts, so your tune will be very close. They will engineer safety into the tune though to account for the differences is atmosphere, fuel quality and other conditions you will have specific to where you live. It's the same concept as the oem tune for a completely stock car. The tune is "generic" but will last the lifetime of the car as long as you are using stock parts. If you want to think about it in a practical way. It's like going to Marshall's to buy a suit. Sure the suit will fit you, and you may be able to pick up a girl at the bar but it's going to take a few drinks. That's an off the shelf map. But, if you were to take the suit to a place to have it fitted to your specific body, the suit will look much better and that same girl may not need a drink to head back to your place. That's an etune. Now take that fitted suit to a fine Italian tailor shop to add the cuff links, brown leather shoes polished to a mirror shine and add a silk tie to the mix. That same girl at the bar is now buying you drinks. That's a protune. The etune is limited to your specific conditions but you don't know how to drive the car to get the exact information they need to really dial in the tune. The protune can set the dyno to drive very specific rpms and loads, they can add in boost by gear or rpm. Set 2 step to build boost from a stop, build in safety based on your temperature ranges such as winters dropping to 10 degrees in the north east compared to 50s for down south. And summers that reach low 90s for the north east but can hit 100 down south. I realize this is a long explanation, but it seems to be a common question.

@WRXGarage
@WRXGarage 4 жыл бұрын
There's no particular order you have to go in! Kevin's car has just a downpipe, alot of people start with just an intake. It all depends on what you want to do. The only important thing you need to do is get a good tune. New intake? Needs a tune. Add a jpipe? Needs a tune. Ethanol? Needs a tune. Boost controller? Needs a tune.
