A demonstration video from a CERAD Qualification on ambulance blue light training and PTS drive.
First part of video demonstrates and talks through the setting up of the vehicle known as the predrive check to maximise safety and comfort in order to reach all the vehicles controls and avoid fatigue whilst driving. it includes handbrake checks, setting up the seat steering position and mirrors , starting the engine safely, engine running foot brake and hand brake check, auxiliary controls of the vehicle , passenger warnings seatbelts and doors and moving off safely with a running brake check at first available situation.
The first part of the drive is a routine ambulance PTS drive keeping to speed limits and obeying the laws of the road. full commentary of the system of car control according to Roadcraft the police driver handbook, talking through information and the four phases, positioning of the vehicle ,speed of the vehicle , selecting the correct gear to match the speed and using the correct amount of acceleration. The PTS routine ambulance drive has a strong emphasis on patient comfort using early planning effective positioning and acceleration sense to limit the use of the breaks for comfort.
The 2nd drive is a demonstration of an ambulance blue light run, claiming exemptions , treating red lights as a give way, travelling on the incorrect side of keep left and right signs and exceeding statutory speed limits according to section 19 road safety act 2006. The drive demonstrates the system of car control commentary, overtaking using the 3 stage method according to Roadcraft, intelligent use of sirens , watching for the moment of realisation from vehicles , obeying road markings especially solid white lines regarding the law in the highway code. Talk through of positioning and safety of the offside with awareness of oncoming vehicles.
the video aims to show the students the differences between routine and blue light driving using instructional commentary.
The video shows how to deal with red lights without causing danger to any other road users again with intelligent use of blue lights and sirens.
