It's interesting that Ambulocetus appears to have many traits of convergent evolution. One wonders if alien life on a planet with a similar environment would seem eerily familiar.

That's an interesting thought. It's reasonable to assume that it would! But then again all we know about evolution and life in general stems from observations made here on Earth. Maybe one day we'll discover something that will show us the answer!

we'd expect some things to be very similar. The fusiform body shape in water, for example. With evolution favoring builds that work the best, you'd expect such design basics to be universal. There's a reason that all large oceanic predators on earth have amazingly similar body shapes.

Your channel is great! I was sent here by Klayton Fiorti btw. Also ambulocetus is one of my favorite prehistoric creatures! I remember seeing it in the first episode of walking with beasts and being astonished by the fact that they were the ancestors of whales. Nice video Edit: also a possible recommendation for another edisode would be arctops, a species of gorgonopsid.

Its sort of funny to think about... mammals have thick bones and heavy builds which make it hard for them to get much larger than elephants, but allow them to become the largest animals ever in the water... while the hollow bones and lighter builds of dinosaurs allowed them to become the largest land animals ever, but are detrimental to diving. The only dinosaurs/birds that dive exceptionally well, have had to give up their lightness quite a bit in order to do it... penguins. Almost like bones full of air sacks and hollows when diving down to crushing pressures isn't really a good idea.

Great video by the way i have an opinion it is possible to recreate ambulocetus by altering and reversing the DNA of Dolphins, creating amphibious mammalian crocodile-like carnivorous ambulocetus there are chances of genetically modifying it to create it including other species such as rodhocetus, protocetus, maiacetus, kutchicetus, pakicetus and Indohyus by chance it cannot be done or I am wrong with my opinion?

Only a few bones were actually found. The rest of the story of this creature is imagination and fairy tale.

I started off proud of u when u said “of the modern ocean”, but then u lost it when u said largest of all time! First off, there’s an ichthyosaur widely accepted now to have gotten as large as, and larger, than blue whales, and there are NUMEROUS sauropods that got larger! In fact, more than 1/3 larger! Upto at least 135ft!
