Dear Yves my Ethiopian Wife and I felt very worried and upset, we really appreciate your efforts to share your voyages and stories… I don’t blame you if you feel disappointed and upset or frustrated but keep in mind what you shared it’s unique, as my wife said even Ethiopians don’t take the challenge as you do to reach these amazing places... As well she's very supportive and upset about what happens to tourists in her country as your barber in Addis or the overcharged of your bicycle as your entrance to the country. The Ethiopian government doesn't care about Tourism and overcharge and take advantage of you...we had the experience so many times, even my wife as an Ethiopian with a Spanish passport she is overcharged 🤦🏻‍♂️... Take care Yves all the best. Kind regards Hywot & Ulises.

I'm Ethiopian and lived in Addis. I agree with your takes. Our people are overcharging the whites, especially at touristic places. It's shame as a country. Plus the tourists also don't challenge the crap system. Recently, I went to gondar with a girl from Netherlands. I noted her bill was doubled and tripled and I entered into even physical fighting. Terrible system

What added a greater finale to your video was the purity of the kids walking with you, in essence showing you there is a future ahead of you and it's best to continue this journey, there is evil in every beauty of this earth but know more that beauty is greater than the evil that resides in obscure time frames which that makes us aware that we should appreciate life in every moment. This is one journey that #Iam_Marwa could never have undertaken, well done to you Kino for having come this far.

Your trip will inspire a lot of followers and never give up ! As a ex wildlife managers I have worked in remote part of Ethiopia for 10 years so I want to give you a piece of advise that when you travel remote part don’t take town boys as guide try to get local people preferably elderly to accompany you ; that will decrease the potential of robed or killed by robbers! Bonjour Yves, not a responder of video's myself. I've started watching a lot of other 'travelling' channels which now have turned into money channels it seems so I am starting to skip them. You seem to keep what you are doing which deserves the most appreciation. I highly recommend you to inform of the dangers well before you go somewhere. Also what you mention about the food and everything. inform inform and inform. There will be people around which you could stay for a couple of days so you can build up your strenght and also to keep you emotional and mentally strong. Also having an emergency pack of food somewhere on the bike can be a life saver. There will always be 'bad' parts which you cannot avoid. I myself also had a not so pleasant experience in that country while I know a lot of people there are very friendly and helpful. If you need something or are in real need make a KZfaq video and I am sure with the amount of viewers here someone will have connections to get things fixed or help you forward. There is no shame to ask for help, it is a human thing to do.

Yves glad you are alive to tell the story. I think you have gone through the worst part of your journey and hope it gets better as you cross into Southern Africa. Ethiopians were not colonised and for them seeing a European person like you in person is as exciting as you seeing those unique tribes; in the process they end up bothering you so much which is understandable. Some would even think they encounter an angel that is there to bless them with lots of money 😀. Besides your unique bike creates a lot of excitment for them. However, the robbery and all the horrrible things you suffered show how inhumane people can be. Anyways, you are a hero that brought out the good and the bad of humans all over the world 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Merci Beaucoup 🙏🏽

As an Ethiopian im very sorry to hear this, the good thing is that you survived. I hope you understand those men dont represent all Ethiopians. If theres anything we can do to help you we are in Addis Ababa. Any bank account (ethiopian commercial bank), anything, we want to help. And please stop filming a vlog outside you might be targeted more. I hope you all the best.

Thank you Kino Yves for sharing this experience. I have enjoyed the video's of your travels and always look forward to seeing the next one. Sorry to hear of the recent troubles but you can count on me to watch the next video, how ever long it takes. I hope you have an easy transition back to France and easy process for a new Passport. Take care my Friend !!

The bike is part of the unique selling point of your channel, the slower pace of seeing everyone and everything is special - but if it's months and months of child gangs chasing you down the road shouting "money! money!" (or worse) then I can see how that might get a little tiresome!

I hate knowing thi happened, Yves. But, watching the tribe videos, I had an eerie sense that it was a doomed trip because of the type of people and location you must be in to experience the tribes. Glad you're okay though.

Hi Yves, I am very sorry about what happened to you. The footage you make is always awesome and we have learned so much about different countries and cultures from what you shared. Please don't stop your journey. Definitely, do get some rest and try to unwind what happened to you and your colleagues. Stay safe. Just curious, did you report the incident to police? What happened is a crime and the authorities must act.

Yes, I reported the crime, but it's a lawless area, so they are not gonna do anything

I am very sad to hear about the incident , with all the past experiences dedication and energy you have I am very sure you will get over this and advance further with your epic adventerous travels to far pockets and corners in the world where main stream media wouldn't reach , I would like to kindly recommend you to talk to the guide and people who know the surma area very well , may be you can send people from arba minch as there may be people who probably know the badits at least to get back your passport and memory card

Even sir your cameras, as an Ethiopian I feel so much ashamed of what these guys have done it is totally against our culture and values , but I still believe if you search for someone in arbaminch or jinka who knows the people and the surma people and the area it would be possible to get back the cameras , memory card and more importantly your passport

I am happy to learn that you are safe. It was really a close call. Was it a set up? It is my understanding that the incident occurred right after you let go your body guard. How did those bandits learn that you were without a security guard? I wonder if you were setup by the guard himself or, who knows, could be anyone including your guides.

My advice to you is get out of Africa unless you are in a suicidal mission. Kenya, Uganda, all the way to south Africa are killer zones filled with rebels.

You have looked death in the eye. And have a very special memory of the stick fights that hardly anyone has experienced. The balance between risk and curiosity is sometimes difficult to determine. I understand you continue. Just be careful in the border area in Kenya. And after that it is less risky. Take care of yourself! 👍🤞
