In this video we'll be having a fresh look at AMD's FSR 3 Frame Generation. Not to be confused with AFMF (AMD Fluid Motion Frames), FSR 3 Frame Generation has to be implemented by game developers in order to work. As it stands currently, there does seem to be issues with its implementation in many games.
Today we'll be testing AMD's FSR 3 Frame Generation in 5 games, namely Robocop: Rogue City, Remnant 2, Starfield, Immortals of Aveum, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Avatar sees the most interesting result, as it seems like the latest patch completely broke FSR 3 Frame Generation. Prior to the latest patch it was working pretty well on both Nvidia and AMD GPUs, but now it is back to where it was at launch.

KZfaq doesnt do it justice. If you sit in front of the monitor you are just wowed! And then nighttime hits and it just bursts with color!

At 1080p dlss looks way more stable than fsr imo. DLSS QUALITY at 1080p looks decent but fsr 2/3 upscaling looks bad with lots of shimmering.

Yeah, DLSS pulls ahead of FSR by a bit in most games with regards to image quality.

In Avatar I think Ubisoft also ruined FSR3 just in general with the latest patch. I'm getting better performance and image quality with the basic TAA setting now on a 7900xtx. Sad because up until now this game was the best implementation of FSR3 and Frame gen and a great showcase for AMD. I hope Ubisoft is aware of the problem and can fix it quickly because isn't worth playing absent these features.

100% agreed. At launch it had issues which got resolved, and now it's back again. It really was pretty good until about a week ago. They'll patch it again, I'm sure. Well, I hope so anyway 🤣 It's such a good looking game, and frame gen helped a lot!

I'm curious: is FSR3 (no frame generation) better than FSR 2.2, at the same setting?

It's supposed to be from what I understand yeah. It's pretty confusing as when it released I assumed it would be FSR 2 with Frame Gen, like DLSS 3, but it's supposedly an improved FSR upscaler too.

You mean a native AA setting? Some games support FSAA (I think that's what it's called) which works on the same principle as DLAA where it uses only the AA component of FSR without upscaling. FSR itself is a temporal upscaler and AA, so you get AA along with upscaling, same as DLSS in that sense. But if you mean a native AA without upscaling, yes, it has that too in some games. Does that answer your question?

Yeah, this needs to be implemented by the game itself whereas AFMF is driver level and can be enabled in any game. This does not dynamically disable during high motion though and should be more UI aware.

hmm.... yea that noise in that door reflection isn't good at all and fsr has always struggled with motion fluidity and yea the latency what is the RX 7000 exclusive compensation tool for fsr 3 smooth frame something it escapes my mind at the moment

It's mediocre to say the least in my opinion, you need a high enough base framerate to look and run fine, at a point where it is not necessary anymore. Doing Frame Generation on shaders seems a far stretch for AMD (at least upscaling is fine!)

I personally like and use frame generation to max out my 165hz monitor, so I'd usually aim for around 90 fps and then enable frame generation. Unfortunately FSR 3 frame generation needs some work from the devs of the games where it's used currently as it is a very mixed bag at the moment :(

@@Mostly_Positive_Reviews i use dlss 3 fg with base framerate of 40 to 45fps because i use a controller most of the time it feels good tbh.i like maxing out all raytracing settings i want best visuals.

Yeah, latency becomes less of an issue when playing with a controller indeed.
