The other half: the heartbreak of Glenn Seton Racing, will Glenn never being able to win Bathurst in his long and storied career. Hard to believe the size of the crowd back then relative to today. Growing up with a Holden mechanic father Bathurst was a big annual event for us - very Australian and the average Aussie could relate to the cars battling it out. Not many of us can relate to the exotics that race around these days, bristling with tech (ie. less about the driver) and the results usually heavily weighted towards the big bucks. Isn't progress wonderful?? :-|

I'm the same. Pure space frame built, dedicated track cars don't excite me at all. Part of the excitement was ordinary engineering thinkers, fabricators and mechanics coming up with solutions within the constraints of a production car. I would see the road-going version of those cars on my way to school and it was exciting to learn and think about how these teams turned ordinary cars into racing cars. Today's sport doesn't come close.
