Hello, Please ask your orthodontist for advice on this matter. It is probably an appliance with sharp spots that causes that discomfort. These spots can be covered with adhesive or wax and that can help tremendously with discomfort.

@@DENTAURUM-Company Thank you! She tried to cover some small hooks with composite, but it still penetrated my tongue too much. The solution was to cut the hooks on one arm of the device (for those who read the comments).the problem is that one side arm is more distant from the palatine bone than the other one.. so yes, it's not normal to be so painful. Now it's better.

Yes. The amda® is a skeletal anchorage device for bi- or unilateral distalization and / or mesialization of upper molars, depending on how it is mounted. The telescope has an internal stainless steel spring, which has to be fully compressed (closed), when all molar teeth are to be moved. With the fully closed spring the maximum spring travel is 4 mm and the maximum spring force is 4.7 N (approx. 470 g). Please also see our instructions for use on our homepage.

Usually a higher force is required to move the molars. But by moving only one molar after the other less force can be used as to move 2 molars. How does one use it to move a molar more than 4 mm? When the maximum movement has been achieved the appliance can be reactivated by moving the telescope accordingly and reactivating the spring as described in the instructions for use. Please take care that the amda arms are kept long enough and not be cut too short, because the length is required 5.4.2 Mesialization with amda® amda® was designed for distalization. However, the appliance can also be used for bi- or unilateral mesialization (Fig. 8). In addition, amda® can be used to distalize one jaw side and mesialize the other side. For mesialization, turn the amda® telescope 180° and place it on the amda® palatal arch again. The stop screw with the thinner telescope tube is then on the posterior end. The right amda® connector must be replaced by the left connector and vice versa. Follow the same steps to adapt, incorporate, monitor, and remove amda® as above. To activate mesialization, tighten the posterior stop screw after activating it and loosen the anterior stop screw (now on the larger telescopic tube). The opposing force does not come into action as it is prevented through the anchorage achieved by the mini-pins.

Inserting a tomas®-pin in the palate is a quick and nearly painless procedure. Naturally, the amda® appliance has to exert certain forces to achieve the desired dental movement. This takes time and can feel uncomfortable - as do most other teeth straightening options. Don´t worry though, the final result will make it worth it!
