the Worst HBP was Kevin Pillar when he was on the Mets. the pitch went straight to his face, and blood immediately came pouring out. i thought his career may have been over. The Gamer that Pillar is, was in the dugout with a bruised face the next game…..Truly, a Warrior.

That shit can really alter someone's career too,I'll never forget when Giancarlo Stanton got drilled, absolutely scary
@chrislewis506926 күн бұрын
It did alter stentons career, he's never hit for as much power because he closed his stance to feel like he wouldn't open up on a fastball inside again and got a chin guard. It been the same player since. Doesn't drive the ball as far or as hard but he is still stronger than most

i think jason heyward is another example. After getting hit in the jaw with atlanta he always seemed slightly timid after that. His defense is still solid but he's now a .220 hitter that never seemed the same after that hbp.

I got beamed by a 2-Seamer (upper 80s) in college and it hit me in the cheek bone and fractured my orbital. I just remember spinning around and falling back... the only thing I heard was the crowd in shock. At the point of release, I knew the ball was going to hit me, but from the angle, it seemed more like bicep/shoulder zone, but it kept rising before I could turn my head and absolutely clobbered me. I wore a cheek plate after that, but my hitting suffered, especially being a lefty who drags for base hits... never was the same after that. I can only imagine an extra 10-15MPH, and the damage behind it.

I'll tell ya what. If I played I'm bringing a hockey goalie mask protector to the plate. These guys are throwing 95mph and higher. It's pretty scary what could happen. Same could be said about pitchers protection from a line drive right at him. I remember seeing Stanton get hit in the face when he played for the Marlins. Scary stuff.

the pitcher does not even care enough to go to the man he hit??
@arthurmabeejr875219 күн бұрын
If you think of it, by going to the player you hit with a fastball would just add insult to injury. We can see the pitcher has concern for the batter as he kneels down and, he can't believe he just threw it that high. This was completely unintentionally done, you can see the care the pitcher has on his face. This kind of wild pitch should have never been thrown but, it was not purposely done. I remember I too was hit with a 100 mph fastball, it broke part of my jaw, lucky I pulled back some to take the full brunt away and, was very lucky never knocked out any of my teeth. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
