Many thought John the Baptist was the Messiah , but he was just some dude baptizing people , maybe a cousin to Jesus

No one goes to hell as punishment for their sin because Jesus died for the sins of the world. You choose hell when you want to remain your own king rather than live in God’s kingdom for reborn men and women.
