I'm 49, and I saw what the crack era did to our families and communities. Add to that what hip hop was, and then turned into gangster rap with oversexualized images of women, and selling/using drugs. The change happened quickly as well! There was definitely an agenda. Math Hoffa did an interview with Dres talking about this. One minute, we were afrocentric, and the next thugs. Young black men's images changed from that point forward in music, movies, and life. This is where the drastic changes happened!

The music is a perfect example of how that system keeps the community in the condition it’s in. The amount of people (of other communities) that make money off of culture alone is eye opening. It continues to create jobs while the community continuously has its soul sucked out, willingly. Until people start to reevaluate their value system, nothing is going to change.

The law has given the child in AMERICA rights not to be discipline and as far as two parent started long before when the black family applied for Public assistance were not due to due to both parents being in home and so the father the head of the house decided to leave in order for his family to receive assistance and therefore the father was forced out the house and the government had routine visits to the blacks homes to ensure that the father wasn’t living there and most of the time visiting. The father rarely visited in fear of taking that Public assistance away and this system is this implemented until this day. I was employed for the county and have seen and heard eligibility workers deny plenty of families due to there male partner’s/husbands lived in the household. A very small percentage of whole black families are granted P unlicensed assistance for Census proposes. Please do more research on how the family has been constantly in this systematic whirlpool. The Black American birth rate is below replacement and 52% of fertile Black women are child-free. Black ladies are tired of being blamed so they have decided to stop birthing completely.

Regarding why the community does not involve themselves in keeping neighborhood children straight like back in the days. In my opinion it is do to number of reasons; however these two factors stick out in my mind: 1) The community we once knew no longer exist. Those who use to do well and stay in the community and viewed as role models no longer stay. As a result, in many neighborhoods you only have crabs in a bucket that are full of anger because they see a future they do not desire. 2) Drug culture; crack destroyed our communities the same way meth is currently destroying white suburban communities. 3)The destruction of the family and the lack of appreciation of the extended value. I may be way off base, but this is where I am for now.

I love how these back to Africa discussions often pick the most dysfunctional Black Americans and diasporans to drive home certain points. This won’t help build anyone up and certainly not Africa. SOME of the expatriates are disillusioned , disaffected and/or maladjusted HUMAN BEINGS. There are many Black people in the diaspora who have been able to achieve, live safely and have success. It isnt always about racial persecution in the U.S. No place is perfect. Not even Africa.

It’s more complex than everything that is being said on this show today. We are talking about the break down of the family and the impact of several 7 or 8 decades, to get to where things are right now! I mean over 75 to 80 years. Everyone does not live in the ghetto, but also it’s not simply the fought of the single mom! It’s about the impact of everyday racism and years and years of discrimination, oppression, aggression, self hatred, red lining, class issues, social issues, lack of inter city jobs, training, specific access to healthcare, decent housing, education, lack of extended family’s, lack of networking, proper nutrition, basic skills, elderly wisdom and higher costly education, black consciousness

News flash, Everywhere is bad for us but I'd rather be here complaining than somewhere else struggling, FOR REAL! America is actually the "best worst" place for ANYONE! That's why people are literally and physically dying to come here. If I'd heard this same conversation 60, 70 years ago I'd probably be among the first on a one way trip to somewhere else without a second thought.

Good discussion. Let me just summarize this. Y'all have had the opportunity to experience two sides of living in the broad sense. Most Africans still have experienced only one side which is just in Africa. These discussions will either strike so much fear in the enthusiast who wants to travel to the USA, or they will just not believe you. I am in the USA now and I have concluded every African should have the opportunity to travel. After that we tend to understand the reality of these situations being discussed here.

I think the biggest difference between America and other countries in Africa is that Americans will talk openly about their issues but Africans are very protective about their country's images. For people that don't really study about international issues they may start to think that America is bad and everywhere else is very good. Most of the problems in America are down to where you live in America. Plus if we analyse black people by country, America would be by far the richest black country in world. America has also provided the world with the most influencial and successful black people in history.

America didnt PROVIDE the world with influential Black people. Black people were able to overcome the barriers, roadblocks and problems put in place to prevent their advancement and success. Many Black Americans ( especially those who succeeded prior to 1965-70 ) succeeded INSPITE of America, not because of it.
@djgroopz4952

@@pkp6791 It is partly because of it. The only reason why people like Beyonce and Oprah are widely known is because of the capitalist system of America. There are plenty of talented black people in Africa and South America but they've not been as influencial as black people in America because they are in the wrong system. There's probably many people in Zimbabwe more talented than LeBron James or Steph Curry but they'll not go anywhere if they stay there. This is the reason why people like Sydney Portiere and Rihanna immigrate to the US.

Not all states in America have gangs. In Massachusetts, you might find it risky in the inner city, but for the most part, that is where it starts and ends. Oshay cannot speak for all of America and I wish he would stop doing so. Where he comes from has a Gang culture. For the most part, in the rest of America, an FBA is more likely to be killed by a cop than one another. Yt people in the midwest and the south are the real gun toters and yt children have been known to commit school or mass shootings. Blaming Foundational Black Americans for all the crime in America does Black people an injustice.
@abaoaqu1333
@abaoaqu1333 Жыл бұрын
I dont think that they blamed black ppl for all the crime in America at all. Also idk where you got the outside of the inner city stats from but FBAs are absolutely more likely to die at the hands of someone that looks like them than the police. Also the overwhelming majority of FBAs live in around around the inner city so you cannot simply slice that out (70% per pewresearch). We have to be honest about our own community issues and address them. Asking white ppl to be different or help us build healthier communities is not a strategy for success. As far as guns, black America's are the 2nd highest gun ownership group in America behind white ppl and well above Latinos who have a significantly higher population. That in of itself means nothing but guns as Oshay pointed out are less the issue and more of the poor mentality that plagues our communities that these so called parents continue to incubate.

@@abaoaqu1333 I grew up "in the hood" in Massachusetts, and the local news is only too glad to report shootings in my old neighborhood. According to the national state: "The state with the lowest gun death rate in the nation was Hawaii, followed by Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and New York. Each of these states has strong gun violence prevention laws and a lower rate of gun ownership." So am not only speaking from personal knowledge but the "Violence Policy Center stats." Death by guns in MA rates at 3.89 deaths per 100,000.

No disrespect to the brotha with the glasses but he wreaks of typical US liberal think that is unrealistic to the reality of things. One sided accountability, there's always something that we have to tackle BEFORE we focus on developing ourselves. I appreciate you giving a thorough breakdown of the state that we are in. While black ppl in America are getting inundated with everything leading them to self sabotage, making excuses is absolutely the most unhelpful thing that you can prescribe.
