I'm a Nigerian, unfortunately I wholeheartedly agree with what my African American brother said...it is the reality in Nigeria. If Nigeria can figure out how to deal with corruption (which is a serious sin to God), it will change everything for best. Nigeria could become one of the great Nation in the world. God Bless Nigeria!

The foundation has to be repaired first. If the foundation is faulty, no matter how big or beautiful the structure you erect on it, the whole building will collapse. The present structure Nigeria has makes it easier for corruption to occur, and thrive. Let's restructure and you will see corruption vanishes and the country soars. Without doing so, I am afraid, Nigeria will eventually collapse. Very sad to think or talk about, but the truth must be told. Have you ever asked yourself, All those nations Britain, US, France, Germany etc saying they love Nigeria, they want Nigeria to stay together; they want democracy to continue in Nigeria bla....bla....bla. If they truly love Nigeria and the African people in general, why not facilitate repairing the foundation of the country? Why not facilitate the restructuring the people of Nigeria want?

@@israelolupelumi8208 But wouldn’t that be regressing? There should be no desire of any african nation to relinquish any social control or political power to Europeans-at all! However, Europe can be helpful in a very innocuous way! As African people including us in the States we seem to ape the worst traits of the riches industrious nations that only benefit a very few, and the rest tend to live very substandard lifestyles. The rich and powerful must become more cognizant about the future and better advocates for their people, their nation, the continent of Africa! Europe already has the blueprint on how to develop your country and your countrymen. You must build a middle class. Or you can continue operate at the bottom shelf of all other groups. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. It’s Africa’s for the taking, free! Will just require the need to implement the following: *1.Set goals to build your middle class. 2. Prioritize the first actions to take to create a middle class. 3. Initiate a plan of action for building the middle class. 4. Then SUSTAIN IT! which is most important.*

I don't know this brother from America but he is laying out some hard truth. It's insane when you think about it, Nigeria is the richest and poorest country in Africa! That is frustrating given that Nigeria has some of the most educated people on the continent. So then this means that the ordinary Nigerian never benefits from any economic deals that I made. Also, I don't understand why some of my fellow Nigerian people obsess over billionaires when the same rich folks don't even reside in the continent. And this goes for all African countries, we should stop glorifying the rich simply for being rich. It is time that we worry about the ordinary citizens. SA is one of those countries with a lot of problems but what I have learned is that their citizens are constantly protesting and trying to hold the government accountable. Obviously, protesting alone is not enough and we have seen how the country has been declining, but the people will never give up. What is the point of being called Africa's Giant when the ordinary people are neglected and oppressed and silenced? Good conversation and I must say that the brother from the US was very honest in this discussion.

It's true, corruption is the only problem in Africa. We have almost everything in abundance but it only stays in the hands of a few current government officials and ex-officials. What pisses me off is if u ask an average African what he'll do when he gets power he'll tell u he wants loot just like those in power yet wants corruption to end. Very depressing if u think about it..

Congrats Oshay for these needed conversations. We need a lot of self examining.. It is tiring to always be pointing the blame to others when we can do more for ourselves. Mining is not inherently bad if well managed. It is when corruption allows mining companies to skirt environmental regulations which more times than not are in place. The issue with Africans is we have a lot of laws that are loosely followed. Australia benefits greatly from mining just as countries like Norway, Canada do from their oil resources whose revenues are well managed for the benefit of all their citizens.

Joanita is very correct, mining oil in Nigeria has devastated the Ogoni's environment, practically all the Niger Delta environs where oil drillings take place by multinational oil corporations are badly polluted, and there is nothing much done about it. The indigenes have lost their sources of livelihood which, predominantly, are fishing and farming. There is a record of high rate of cancer plaguing the indigenous in that area. Many of the people that protested against the environmental pollution and lack of just compensation to the indigenes had been killed. One of them was Ken Saro Wiwa. Chances are that similar situations might be the case with lithium mining in Nigeria. Just as Joanita pointed out, I am likewise very concerned for the locals in Nigeria, should the lithium mining deal scales through.. Yes, multinational corporations have environmental procedures on paper which they, due to corruption and other sinister factors, never fully implement in Africa the same way they do in Europe, North America, Japan and other countries around the world.

We are looking to work closely with all of Nigera, to stop exporting their raw material and to turn to manufacturing. We are now in International Trade for everything and we need to manufacture to sell finished products, only! We are moving to manufacture Super Semiconductors for all of our children's inventions. Finished products that can supply all of us and compete in the AI World Trade economies for 100% Profit. We are unifiying West Africa with the South Pacific, Caribbean, Mexico, and here in California in joint manufacturing. We are building African Manufacturing Plants. You are the One, I am the One, WE ARE THE ONE!

1st.- I think Africans should minerals *responsibly* and there would be no environmental issues. (Ex; as long as no harmful chemicals are used during the mining process and soil rub-off into streams is prevented everything should be o.k.). Most important thing, after the mining operation is done, reforestation of grass, plants, & trees must be done. Even rearranging the topography (hills shorter, streams deeper - wider) can be beneficial to wildlife. 2nd.- Countries in African may have to rewrite a new Constitution, because somehow governmental corruption is running too rampant. But most of all, develope *Labor Unions* to ensure ppl are being worked and paid fairly.

There are so many greedy persons in Nigeria, even those in the diaspora that talk the talk of how things are to be run, the moment they return to Nigeria and find their way into position, they start doing the opposite of all they've talked about, they become corrupt overnight and the situation becomes worst than before.

I agree with Juanita. I also agree with Oshay that a woman should be the negotiator because they tend to be more concerned with their countrymen than greed. A great gift for African leaders you know is "Powernomics," by Dr. Claud Anderson...Maybe they will learn the secret of building a strong enough economy to eliminate the dependency on outsiders.

Another issue facing Nigerian politicians is Nigeria's appearance on the international stage. I'm sure Nigeria doesn't want to give the appearance of shifting to political stances that stifles international business and investment. I would like to hear Oshay's opinion on the proposed port development in Lagos by chinese engineering firms.

Hi yaa I think Nigeria should mine the land after the oil citation. The land needs the minerals for the growth of food and plants .Once all that take. away from the land, and its not good for the community around the area

It's true corruption will be there, but it's also true that those resources will be mined at the end of the day,. I will say this, "it's not that things are difficult that we do not dare or try, its because we do not dare that things are difficult " let Nigeria take in the deal to mine and develop those resources.

Nigeria needs format and reboot. Start afresh with a transparent, educated, and smart leader. Nigeria has very educated people without jobs. You will see a pro in chemistry end up as a bus driver or hair babber. I have seen Nigerian build hydrogen/water power generators and no sponsor. The government does not see those kinds of people.

One problem EV battery makers are trying to move away from Lithium to Sodium for example. Nigeria should be trying to lure Chinese EV makers, but one problem electricity production for EV charging would need very, very serious upgrading and EV production would need very advanced manufacturing which Nigeria just isn't' equipped for. How could Tesla say yes - their stock would tank in value - Africans wouldn't buy cars that they can't charge - that nut needs to be cracked, particularly superchargers for distance travel
